A detailed itinerary trip to Cebu - Bohol

1. HOW TO GET THERE
- Via plane: If you come via Manila, you'll probably want to take a connecting
flight to Tagbilaran. Cebu Pacific Air using Airbus A319 has two flights daily,
Philippine Airlines using Airbus A320 has three flights daily, Zest Airways
using Airbus A320 has one flight daily plus an additional flight every
Tue/Wed/Sat.
-Via boat: It is also possible to take a boat to Bohol, but it is only advisable if
you have plenty of time at hand and enjoy a trip on sea, or have to travel on
a rock-bottom budget or with a lot of luggage. Currently, there are numerous
daily flights from Manila to Tagbilaran.
-From Cebu: The most economical way to get from Cebu to Tagbilaran by boat
is to catch a ferry to Tubigon, and continue by bus from Tubigon to Tagbilaran.
This is sometimes both faster and cheaper than taking a boat directly to
Tagbilaran.

Taoist Temple- Cebu Taoist Temple is located in Beverly Hills Subdivision

in Cebu City, Philippines. The temple was built by Cebu's substantial
Chinese community. With an elevation of 300 meters above sea level,
the temple is a towering, multi-tiered, multi-hued attraction accessible
by three separate winding routes.

Casa Gorordo Museum- The Casa Gorordo Museum was originally a

two-storey house built in the mid-19th century in the historic Parian
district of Cebu City. During the Spanish colonial era, the Parian district
was the most prestigious section of the city and home to its most
prominent families.

Basilica de Santo Nio- It is the oldest Roman Catholic church

established in the country, purportedly built on the spot where the
image of the Santo Nio de Ceb, a statue depicting the Holy Child
Jesus was found in 1565 by Spanish explorers led by Miguel Lopez de
Legazpi.

Magellans Cross- This cross is housed in a chapel next to the Basilica

Minore del Santo Nio on Magallanes Street (Magallanes being the
Spanish name of Magellan), just in front of the city center of Cebu City.

Fort San Pedro- Fuerza de San Pedro is a military defence structure,

built by Spanish and indigenous Cebuano labourers under the
command of Spanish conquistador, Miguel Lpez de Legazpi and the

Spanish Government in Cebu. It is located in the area now called Plaza

Indepedencia, in the Pier Area of Cebu City, Philippines.

San Carlos Museum- The San Carlos Museum in San Carlos University
displays different archeological finds, such as artifacts of the first
settlers in the area which are the Lamchin Indians , ethnic art,
botanical and zoological specimens.
Bohol Countryside Tour- The Bohol Countryside Tour takes you on a
memorable and fun-filled trip to Bohol's tourist attractions such as the
world-renowned Chocolate Hills. Visit historical and cultural landmarks
like the Blood Compact Shrine and Baclayon Church, then go
sightseeing at the Chocolate Hills and Man Made Forest. Spend some
relaxing time with the enchanting Loboc River Cruise. Also meet the
cute tarsiers, the world's smallest primates.

Blood Compact Site- Blood Compact Site is located in Barangay Bool,

Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines. This particular site was made in
honor of a very important event in the Philippine history done between
Miguel Lopez de Legazpi of Spain and Rajah Sikatuna of Bohol.

Baclayon Church- Baclayon is known for its historic Catholic Church,

declared as a National Historic Treasure in 1995 because it is
considered the best preserved of its kind in the region. Its first
structure was built in 1595, but the current building is from 1724 and
has a Spanish Colonial architecture.

forested land. The Tarsier Sanctuary is in the midst of the towns of

stretching in a two-kilometer stretch of densely planted Mahogany
trees located in the border of Loboc and Bilar towns.

Province, Philippines. There are at least 1,260 hills but there may be as
many as 1,776 hills spread over an area of more than 50 square
kilometres.
6. FAMOUS CUISINE/S AND FOOD STUFF OF THE PLACE/S
CEBU

Otap- An oval-shaped puff pastry. The surface of the Otap looks very
crumpled and is sprinkled with sugar that has somewhat hardened on
the top. The crumpled look of the Otap is what makes it very fragile
and easily to break into bits of pieces when you bite it. This sugarsprinkled biscuit is something light and not too sweet that you can
consume a couple of pieces to satisfy your hunger.

Dried Mango- Considered as the best nutritious and convenient snack

around the world. Very convenient, that made Cebu City more popular
because of distributing the finiest dried mangoes around the globe.
This ripe, sun dried mangoes is good for snacks and desserts. It has a
chewy consistency that makes its taste linger in your mouth.

Ampao- This delicacy is famous in Carcar City, Cebu and is the local
version of rice crispies bind by sugar syrup and are formed in thick
bars.

Rosquillos- The cookies are circular in shape with flower-like edges and
a ring shaped hole in the center.Very light yet sweet and fun to eat.
Kids would surely enjoy eating this.

Danggit- It is a salted dried fish that is best paired with hot rice and
dipped in vinegar. This should be deep fried to achieve that crispiness.
BOHOL

Broa- A cookie, native from Baclayon, soft in texture that literally melts in
your mouth once you take a bite. It is light and crisp, perfect for snacks with
milk, coffee or hot chocolate. It is also recommended in making Mango
Refrigerator Cake.

Biko- A famous Filipino recipe and can be seen in almost all Filipino
celebrations. It is made of glutinous rice, coconut milk, sugar (latik).

Calamay- This is one of the must-try treats when visiting Bohol. Though
calamay is known across that country (with other names), nothing beats the
Calamay from Jagna, enclosed in a coconut shell and sealed with a red band.
It is a concoction of glutinous rice, sugar, coconut milk and some peanuts.

Peanut
Kisses- This is a signature Boholano recipe and only here you can find
cookies shaped like a miniature Chocolate Hills (the famous attraction of
Bohol) or Hershey Kisses. It is basically made of high-quality peanuts and
eggs, baked crisp to bring that nutty crunch in every bite. Every department
stores and souvenir shops have displays of these delicious pasalubongs.

Torta- Merienda time is torta time. In Bohol you can taste one of the besttasting tortas in the country. Torta means cake in Spanish. It is soft, fluffy,
moist and easy to swallow.
7. OTHER TOURISM PRODUCTS
CEBU
Hand-crafted guitars- cebu hand-crafted guitars courtesy of DOST. The
6-string is mostly the most used instrument among all other musical
instruments. I can say this since most people that I know knows how to
play it well. And when it comes to guitars, the island of Cebu is not
stranger.
Tuba- Tuba or coconut wine, has been in the lives of many Filipinos, and
that includes Cebuanos, for a long-time now. Today, we have indulged
ourselves in the internationally acclaimed liquors like gins, vodkas,
rhums and the popular beer. This, however, depends if one can
stomach such liquid into going all-out overnight.
Wood Carvings- There are also many religious carvings and larger
pieces that are either life size sculptures or items of furniture made
form a single piece of wood.
The type of wood is a big determining factor in the cost of a wood
carving. There are many types of wood with the most expensive being
Kamagong (also known as Ebony or Black Ivory).
BOHOL
Bohols hand-made products include bags, decors, house accessories,
floor mats, fashion accessories, hats, baskets and other materials.
Souvenir items are also available for those who want to own something
memorable that would remind them of the province of Bohol. There are
t-shirts about Bohol, keychains and many more.
8. CULTURE
CEBU
Cebu City is a significant cultural centre in the Philippines. The imprint of
Spanish and Roman Catholic culture is evident. The city's most famous
landmark is Magellan's Cross. This cross, now housed in a chapel, is reputed
to have been planted by Ferdinand Magellan (Ferno Magalhes) when he
arrived in the Philippines in 1521. It was encased in hollow tindalo wood in
1835 upon the order of the Augustinian Bishop Santos Gmez Maraon to
prevent devotees from taking it home chip by chip. The same bishop restored
the present template or kiosk, located at the present Magallanes street
between the City Hall and Colegio del Santo Nio. Revered by Filipinos, the
Magellan's Cross is a symbol of Christianity in the Philippines.
A few steps away from the Magellan's Cross is the Basilica Minore del Santo
Nio (Church of the Holy Child). This is an Augustinian church elevated to the
rank of Basilica in 1965 during the 400th year celebrations of Christianity in
the Philippines, held in Cebu. The church, which was the first to be
established in the islands, is built of hewn stone and features the country's
oldest relic, the figure of the Santo Nio de Ceb (Holy Child of Cebu). This

religious event is celebrated during the island's cultural festivities known as

the Sinulog festival.

SINULOG FESTIVAL- The

Sinulog is an annual festival held on the third Sunday of January in Cebu City,
Maasin City, Southern Leyte, Philippines and Balingasag, Misamis Oriental[1]
The festival commemorates the Filipino people's pagan origin, and their
acceptance of Roman Catholicism.

KABAYO FESTIVAL- Organized by the

Cebu Equine Owners, Breeders and Sportsmen Association (CEOBSA), the
Kabayo festival is supported by the DOT. The festival promotes sports
tourism, ecotourism and agri-industrial tourism awareness in the country. The
highlights include the parade of horses, horse racing competition and the
best decorated "tartanillas" or horse drawn carriages and features a bazaar
and flea market.

KADAGUAN SA MACTAN-Literally translated into Victory in Mactan, this oneday celebration on April 27 features a one-day re-enactment of the historic
Battle of Mactan, when forces of Cebuano chieftain Lapulapu defeated the far
more technologically advanced troops of Portuguese explorer Ferdinand
Magellan.
BOHOL
The Boholano culture is much like the culture of the Philippines. It is based on
the majority population of Austronesian or Malayo-Polynesian people on the
island. There are influences from indigenous Melanesian people such as the
Eskaya tribe, and from the colonizing Spanish and trade with Mexico. There is
also influence in the culture from China and other Asian countries.
The echoes of history resound in Bohol. Bohol is also a land of history, a land
of heroes. The Blood Compact between Miguel Lopez de Legazpi and Datu
Sikatuna, the Longest Revolt against Spanish Colonialism led by Francisco
Dagohoy these are just but two important historical chapters in Philippine
history, contributing to the shaping of Filipino nationhood through the
courage, patriotism, creativity, sense of brotherhood, and commitment of our
Boholano heroes and statesmen.

PANDAYAN FESTIVAL- The Pandayan Festival is held at Barangay Lonoy,

Jagna to celebrate the canonical erection or the parochial anniversary of St.
Joseph the Worker Parish. All eight upland barangays of Jagna which is under
the parochial jurisdiction of the Parish participates in the activities. Activities
include a nine-day novena in honor of the patron saint, a procession of the
image of St. Joseph the Worker, Carpentry and Handicrafts Fair, an inter barangay basketball tournament and last but not least, the street dancing
competition.

Sambat Mascara y Regatta Festival (1st Saturday of December).

The festival is celebrated in honor of Loay town's second patron, St. Francis
Xavier. Colorful activities are lined up, like the agro-industrial fair, group
masked street dancing, drum and bugle competition, boat racing along the
river, and many more. The event is highlighted by a fluvial parade of the
image along the river.

The Sandugo Festival is an annual historical celebration that takes place

every year in Tagbilaran City on the island of Bohol in the Philippines. This
festival commemorates the Treaty of Friendship between Datu Sikatuna, a
chieftain in Bohol, and Spanish conquistador Miguel Lpez de Legazpi. This
16th-century peace treaty occurred on March 16, 1565 through a blood
compact or "sandugo".
9. MORE INFORMATION
Cebu is the hub around which the Visayas revolves. It is the most densely
populated island in the Philippines and is second only to Luzon in its strategic
and economic importance to the country. Its language, Cebuano, is widely
spoken throughout the Visayas and parts of Mindanao, and its capital, Cebu
City, is a magnet for migrants from all over the region.
Heavily developed, particularly on its eastern coast, Cebu has a long, bare

backbone of a central mountain range that has confined most of the

population to the coastal fringe. Mining and logging have taken their toll on
the forests, though with the right guide there are still a few opportunities for
exploring mountains, caves and waterfalls.
The beaches at the northern tip of the island and on its southwest coast have
the whitest sand and the most spectacular diving. To the north, the idyllic
offshore islands of Bantayan and Malapascua are steadily increasingly in
popularity, and deservedly so. To the south, Moalboal's Panagsama Beach
packs a concentrated dose of dive centres and budget hedonism.
Mactan Island, a short drive from Cebu City, may be little more than an
overdeveloped mudflat, but divers and bird-watchers still flock to Olango, a
reef-ringed outcrop just off its eastern coast.
Cebu City has the nation's busiest port and its second-busiest airport, and is
the gateway to the Visayas. If you happen to be travelling from Asia, it's an
attractive alternative to entering the country at Manila.
BOHOL- In most tourism brochures a bug-eyed tarsier clinging to a tree
superimposed on a background of the Chocolate Hills is shorthand for the
island of Bohol; it seems white sandy beaches are too common to warrant
inclusion. While this distinctive pairing draws the domestic crowds, it's the
lush jungle interior, rice terraces and offshore islands, most prominently
Panglao Island and its great diving, which truly captures the imagination of
travellers; a tour of the towns will reveal some of the country's best examples
of colonial Spanish churches, many of which are made from coral stone.
Bohol is also known for its ube or ubi (yams), the bright-purple sweet
potatoes that give halu-hal (various fruit and vegetable preserves served in
shaved ice and milk), the national dessert, its distinctive colour and flavour.
