CapstoneArchive.MastersdegreegrantinginstitutionslikeWGUroutinelymakestudenttheses,practica,and
capstoneprojectsavailableintheirlibrariesandelectroniccollections.CurrentandfutureWGUstudentsbenefitfrom
thesecollectionsbyreviewingprojectsthathavebeensuccessfullycompletedintheirfield,aswellastheacceptable
formandformatofcapstoneprojects.WGUfacultyandAccreditorswillalsoexaminetheacademicqualityofWGU
programsbyreviewingthequalityandrigorofcapstoneprojects.ByagreeingtoparticipateintheCapstoneArchiveas
describedintheCapstoneWaiver&Releasebelow,yourscholarshipandeffortattheUniversitywillberecognized,
andyouwillhavethesatisfactionofcontributingtotheadvancementofWGUanditsstudents.

CapstoneWaiver&Release
ThisisanagreementbetweenyouandWesternGovernorsUniversity(WGU)forthedisclosureanduseofthe
contentcontainedwithinyourfinalcapstoneandassociatedtasks(Capstoneproject)forreferencepurposesby
WGU,itsaccreditors,andWGUstudents.
ByselectingtheIAgreeboxbelow,youconsent,withinthemeaningoftheFamilyEducationalRightsandPrivacyAct
(FERPA),toWGUsdisclosureofyourCapstoneProjecttootherWGUstudents,includinganypersonalinformation
(e.g.,name,contactinformation)thatyourCapstoneProjectmaycontain.FERPAisafederallawthatprotectsyour
privacyinalleducationalrecordsmaintainedbyWGU,includingCapstoneProjects,andrequiresWGUtoobtainyour
expressconsentfortheirrelease.
YoufurtheragreetoreleaseWGUanditsstudentsfromanyapplicableliabilityarisingfromcopyright,tradesecretor
otherintellectualpropertylawrelatedtotheuseofyourCapstoneProjectforthefollowingpurposes:

AsaformalteachingtoolbyWGUfaculty;
AsanadditiontoanarchiveofWGUstudentCapstoneProjectsavailabletoWGUfacultyandothercapstone
candidates;
AsanexampleofWGUstudentacademicworksharedwithWGUsaccreditors;
AsasampleofWGUstudentacademicworksharedwithacademicandpeeraudiences.

WGUsStudentCodeofConductprohibitsthecopying,modificationorrepurposingofanotherstudentsworkand
WGUagreestoenforcetheserestrictionstoprotecttheintegrityof,andyourlegalinterestsin,yourCapstoneProject.
Youunderstandthatthisagreementisoptional.WGUagreesandwarrantsthatyourdecisiontodecline/rejectthis
agreementwillhavenoeffectonthegradingofyourCapstoneProject,noranyeffectonyouracademicor
administrativestatusatWGU.
IfyouacceptthisagreementbyselectingIAgreeandtypingorsigningyournamebelow,WGUstronglyrecommends
thatyoulimittheamountofpersonalinformationincludedinyourCapstoneProjectincluding:phonenumbers,
addressesandotherpersonaldetailsbelongingtoyouoranyoneelse.WGUisnotresponsibleforreviewingyour
CapstoneProjectforpersonalinformationpriortoitsdisclosureanduseforthepurposesoutlinedinthisagreement;
however,WGUagreesnottoreleaseadditionalpersonalinformationwithinitscontrol(e.g.,Capstonegrade,grader
commentsandyourresponses).
