I, Prof LDM Oupa LEBELOANE, am a paid-up member of

International Seminar for Teacher Education (ISfTE). I am employed

at the University of South Africa (UNISA), in Pretoria, South Africa.
I was nominated to serve as Secretary General of ISfTE.
I have been a member of ISfTE since 1996 and attended many of the
conferences. I was one of the organisers of the 1998 ISfTE
conference in South Africa. Given a chance, I will be coordinating
the 2016 ISfTE conference in Skhukhuza camp, Kruger National
Park, South Africa.

I am interested in serving as Secretary General thereof. One of my primary reasons to wish to serve as
Secretary General is that I want to contribute towards the growth, development, popularity and
sustainability of ISfTE as a teacher education body globally including Africa. I will do that without
being biased and selfish. I will use globally acceptable clean management style (which I can elaborate
on if required to do so). I will preside at all ISfTE meetings and chair the executive board meetings. I
will ensure that the membership grows. I will communicate regularly to members and those who are
associated with ISfTE on the societys related matters. I will represent ISfTE wherever there is need.
Regarding ISfTEs finances, I will work closely with the treasurer and any other relevant team
member/s to ensure that ISfTEs finances are well managed and audited at the agreed upon time. That
is, I will ensure that the constitution is followed to the latter with regard to dealing with financial
matters. As a transparent way of managing the societys finances, I will provide a financial statement
of all ISfTE accounts within two months after every ISfTE conference and at least a month before the
next conference. That, in my view, will enable all paid up remembers to access and know the
financial status of the society within two months after every ISfTE conference and also prepare
themselves to understand and or question any issues in the next ISfTE conference.
If I am elected as the ISfTE SG, I will suggest that we collectively review the constitution and other
related policies. For example, I will suggest that all continents are equitably represented in both the
executive committee and the executive board. No country should dominate the leadership of the
society. No ISfTE funds should be saved in one country. That is, as ISfTE, we should identify all
possible risks and mitigate them as early as possible.
During my time in office I intend to keep my finger on the pulse of the membership so that I ensure
their needs are adhered and attended to at the earliest possible time. That will include, amongst others
but not limited to, proposed themes and venues of future conferences, exploring recruitment
(especially of young members globally with emphasis in Africa) and retention of membership, as well
as possibilities of encouraging collaborative research amongst members of ISfTE globally. I will also
encourage colleagues to add and share information such as postdoctoral scholarships, those who wish
to invite scholars to their universities, etc. through the use of ISfTE website. I will also ensure that
JISTE is popularised more than it is and be accredited as one of the high impact journals globally.

Based on the preceding vision, I advise those with a vision to vote for me for a better International
Seminar for Teacher Education (ISfTE).
