Amsterdamssoutheastside,Meibergdreeflaneis
currentlybeingredevelopedintoanurbanaxis.Thisre
developmentconstitutedthecatalystfortheconstruction

ofafourstarhotel,justacrossapresentfood
strip.Thehotelislocatedascloselyaspossibletothe
flankinghighwayA2.Onapproachfromthesouth,the
volumerecognisablymarkstheentrancetoAmsterdam.

The60meterhighhotelhasacompactfloorplanwitha
diameterofmerely24meters,resultingina
characteristicslimsilhouettealongsidethehighway.The
objectivetocreateanomnidirectionalstructure,withan
expressivefaadeandacompactfootprint,hasresulted
inacircularplanwithacentralcoreforelevators,stairs
andserviceshafts.Thelimitedspaceisusedas
efficientlyaspossible.Thetechnicalstemisgirdedby
themainfunctionsoneveryfloor.Serviceareasand
technicalspacesaresituatedinthebasement,inthe
pedestalorontheroof.Thelobbyandcoffeeshopare
situatedongroundfloor.120roomsencirclethe
staircaseandliftsintheheartofthehotel.Onfloor
sixteen,fiveboardroomshavebeenarrangeinamanner
thatallowsthemtobelinkedtogether.Thesocalled

SkyrestaurantPi,onthetopandeighteenthfloor,just
aswellasSkyloungePionthefloorbelow,offerguests
impressive360panoramicviewsoverAmsterdam.

Parkingspacesatgroundlevelareintegratedinthe
landscapeunderavegetationcoveredroof,wellblending
inwiththesurroundings.Additionalundergroundparking
for60carsisoffered.Thehotelwillsoonreceivethe
highesthallmarkforsustainabilityandcorporate
responsibilityfororganisationsintherecreationsector,
theGreenKeyGold.Amongothers,buildingrelated
aspectsastheapplicationofasubterraneanthermal
storagesystemandtoplevelfaadeinsulationhaveled
tothisdistinction.

Thefullyglazedfaadewithitsbendscreensandround
windowsyieldsadistinctive,autonomousandyet
restrainedtransparentappearanceofthebuilding,inits
surroundings.Thearchitectureoftheneighbouringfood

stripisreflectedinthecircularmotifinthehotelsfaade
pattern.Bluecolouringsandshadedfrittingsprovidea
prominentoutershelltothebuilding.Concurrently,by
usingthiscolourpalette,thefaadeinteractspowerfully
withthesky.

Theoutershellofprintedglassscreensismounted
approximately90cmoffasolidlightweightinnerfaade
withintegratedfixedwindows.Thetransparentshellhas
anoisereductionfunction.Thecavitybetweenthe
faadesisusedforaccentlighting.Thecircularmotifis
appliedonbothshellsofthebuilding.Thebluetinted
patternsreappearasfrittingsonthelaminatedglass,
andcreatedepthinthefaade.Onthefaadeofthe
pedestal,wheretheentranceandcoffeeshopare
situated,curvedclearglassismounted.Thebuildingis
illuminatedatnightbythehotelroomswindowsandby
lightfixturesappliedbetweenthefaadeshells.Hence,
theFletcherHotelisdistinctlyvisibleandidentifiablein
itssurroundings,evenaftersunset.
Themainstructureofthehotelisacombinationofinsitu
concreteandasteelconstruction.Theconcretecore
providesthestability.Tothis,thesteelconstructionis
hung,atthelocationofthepartitionwallsof
thehotelroomsandonallfloorlevelslinkedwiththe
intermediateprecastconcretefloors.Theroofofthetop
floor,atechnicalroom,ismadeoutofsteel.The
supportingstructureofthecarparkconsistsofconcrete
retainingwallsandsteelcolumnstheroofofhollowcore
floorslabs.
