MOVE 2015 STUDENT Guide

What is MOVE??
MOVE is a 5-day high school only event held all over the country, designed
to amplify the call of Christ on students lives to become Kingdom
workers.
Located on college campuses across the nation, Move provides a program for
25,000 high school students every summer. Students are challenged through
intense, interactive worship, dynamic preaching, small group study, and
community building.
Students at Move not only learn and worship together but also spend quality time
with their church youth group, discovering ways that God will use them to be a
greater help to the world.
Move is more than just another conference or camp. Move is an experience! Its
an all-inclusive event providing food, lodging, recreational activities, and an
amazing program.
Move doesnt want students to leave on a spiritual high that dies as soon as
they get home. We strive for students to go Beyond the Event by committing to
become Kingdom Workers. Cards with challenges for the upcoming year are
handed out on the last day of Move and students are encouraged to commit to
completing those challenges, no matter how difficult they may be.
***We cant wait to see you at MOVE this summer! The MOVE
team has spent this past year planning and preparing for your
arrival. To make your time at MOVE even more enjoyable, this

guide outlines some things you should know before arriving.

Come ready to make memories that will last a life time!***

MOVE-Ictionary
Wait..The What? The MOVE-ictionary. Its all the terms, activities and code
names we use for things here at MOVE. Not sure what something
is? Look it up here!

Adult Leaders Meeting

Each day of Move, the director will hold an Adult Leaders Meeting. This meeting
will take place while the students attend the Morning Show. Its an opportunity for
leaders to prepare for the day and learn about CIY.

Afternoon Recreation
The options at every campus are different and will be announced. MOVE
organizes tournaments during some of the afternoons: 3-on-3 basketball,
volleyball, and dodgeball.

Decision Time
At the conclusion of some Evening Sessions, an invitation is offered for students
to respond and make a public decision about where they are in their relationship
with Christ. Common decisions include accepting Jesus Christ as Savior,
repenting of sin, asking for prayer, and determining to pursue ministry as a
career.

Encounter Time
Following the Morning Session, students and leaders are dismissed to Encounter
Time and Small Groups. This creates an opportunity for them to participate in
devotions that are tied to the daily themes. The devotions can be found in the
Student Magazine.

Extended Recreation

This is an opportunity for youth groups to enjoy an extended afternoon of free

time. Many regions offer a wide array of activities to choose from such as
hanging out at the beach or white water rafting.

Kingdom Workers
A Kingdom Worker is a Christian who uses whatever sphere of influence he or
she has to proclaim the message of Jesus. Kingdom Workers include school
teachers, moms, high school basketball players, bass guitarists, doctors and a
countless list of others. Their ministry may look different, but they have each
surrendered to Jesus, and are committed to using their gifts, abilities and
relationships to advance his Kingdom.

Morning Show
The Morning Show is designed to wake students up through funny videos,
engaging interaction, and whatever crazy ideas MOVE can come up with.

MOVE Station
The MOVE Station is the place to purchase MOVE apparel and check out books
and resources!

Skip-A-Meal
Once during the week, MOVE asks everyone to skip-a-meal. The money is used
to help fund MOVEs International Conferences in places such as India, Ghana,
Costa Rica, Philippines, Myanmar, and others.

Small Group Material

Material for Small Group Time is provided online before Move begins. Small
groups are extremely important at MOVE. The Move team works all year
developing lessons and material that will equip you to lead your small group with
excellence and confidence.

Student Magazine
The student magazine is a book given to each student and leader who attends
Move. It is filled with information about Move and CIY, devotions for each day,
and other pages just for fun! This book will guide your group through their week
at Move.

Super Electives
We give students the opportunity to encounter Kingdom Workers, hear Biblical
truth taught and be exposed to some great Christian practices during elective

time at Move. Electives are offered on a range of topics to provide ample

opportunity for further discussion.

The Alternative
MOVE provides an opportunity for students to share their talents (singing,
instrumental, bands, skits, poetry, comedy, etc.). Students sign up for limited
spots and perform on the main stage.

The Next Level

This is an option for graduated seniors. The Next Level is an in-depth Bible study
taught by the Morning Speaker while everyone else is in Encounter Time. This is
a great opportunity for them to get an inside glimpse of each days theme, ask
questions, and be challenged in their faith.

Youth Group Time

Each night after the Evening Session, each group will get together to talk about
the day and pray together.

The Alternative
We cordially invite you to participate in the once-in-a-life-time event known
as The Alternative. The Alternative is a showcase of talent through the farreaching expanses of ability, creativity and originality. This is your chance to
show us all what you can do. Who knows, maybe you'll get spotted by
someone who can get you a job? How dope would that be?! Maybe you sing,
write, do poetry, comedy, juggle, perform minor surgeries, solve a rubik's
cube, swing the nun-chucks, wrestle a gator or fly. Whatever you do that is
awesome, come do it here!
Here are the rules...
1. You get 2 mics & 2 direct boxes with instrument cables. That is all, nothing more,
don't ask.... yes, we can hear your guitar.
2. There's a decent chance you will get some monitor wedges on the stage, but no
promises.
3. In fact, if you make a comment about something being too loud or too quiet, we
reserve the right to publicly embarrass you for being that guy
4. You get about a minute of setup time at best, so we'd recommend not bringing a
drum kit or a model airplane to assemble.
5. Assuming you didn't bring your own stage-hands, you must provide, transport, and
setup your gear. No you cannot use the band's gear (drums, guitars, saxophones),
even if they told you you can... you still can't. Now if you need a guitar, there's
usually that one girl with a blue guitar that will let anyone use it, go for that. She's
nice.
6. You will have 3 minutes from start to finish, with a timer on the screen. So if you
launch into a heartfelt monologue about how you wrote this song last night, and even
if you start crying, the timer starts at your first word. Choose wisely.
7. There are a limited number of slots, when they are full, that is it. If you add your
own lines to the signup sheet, we reserve the right to publicly embarrass you for not
being able to follow instructions. Please write legibly, some poor intern has to type
these into a computer so your name will appear on the screen, cut them a break.

Dont forget to sign-up at the MOVE Station!

Tournaments
You think you got game? Bring it, but know this at MOVE, we have serious fun
but we play by the rules. Therefore, you will find below the proper etiquette,
terms, and sundry regulations for our three tournament sports: 3-on-3
basketball, volleyball and the grand-daddy of them all dodgeball. Read the
rules, know the rules and love the rules, because you will play by them. Signups are at the MOVE Station. And please remember the dress code still
applies.
3-on-3 Basketball
This is basketball at its half-court finest and fiercest. It doesnt matter if you are great
at a hook shot, bank shot or if you even have a shot. You have to prove your skills for
the ultimate bragging rights.
Only one adult on the floor/court per team
First team to 15 wins.
Scoring is by 2s and 3s.
Half court play only.
The tournament is single elimination.
Teams must take the ball back past the 3-point line after every change of possession.
Ball is live after the check.
Check all dead balls at the top of the key.
Offense calls fouls.
Make it take it rules DO NOT apply. After a basket is made the opposing team gets the ball.
If you are in the act of shooting and you call a foul. You get the ball at the top of the key. If a
shot goes in after a foul is called then there is no bucket.
Fouls must be called before the shot is near the rim or the foul does not count.
Substitutions at dead balls only.
NO CUSSING.
NO TIMEOUTS.

Volleyball
This is 6-on-6 old school, so get your game on. Think you can bring it? Find five
friends and prove it. (Guys this is your chance to get close to that girl you have your
eye on. You never know winning the tournament could improve your odds.)
Only one adult on the floor/court per team
The tournament is single elimination.
Rally scoring.
Play to 21: win by 2 or first team to 25.
If you hit the net with any part of your body, the other team is awarded a point.
No double hits.
Call your own lines.
Substitutions at serve only.
No blocking or attacking the serve.
No re-serves.
Serves that hit the net and go over are live.
NO CUSSING.
NO TIMEOUTS.

Dodgeball
You will be using a tennis court as the Dodgeball tournament court. One team will be
on each side of the net. We know it is smallbut dont complain, because true
champions overcome adversity, so dont be that guy.
Only one adult on the floor/court per team
Six team members per team will be allowed on the court during play.
If you get hit anywhere on your body with a ball, YOU ARE OUT.
The tournament is single elimination.
If you catch a ball, the thrower is out, and ONE member of your team who was out may reenter.
The only time you may leave the box is to retrieve a ball.
If you step outside the boundaries to dodge a ball YOU ARE OUT.

If a ball is thrown at you and it bounces off a ball you are holding, and you subsequently drop
your ball, YOU ARE OUT.
Head shots are legal: Momma says, If you are dumb enough to get hit in the head, you are
dumb enough to be out.
If a ball is thrown at you and it bounces off a ball you are holding and someone catches it, no
one is out.
You must have raving fans that are dressed the part, and as a result of the competition they
must be hoarse from cheering for their team at the end of the tournament.
If you are a weakling and the force of a ball thrown at you is great enough to knock you out of
bounds, BUT you catch the ball. You are safe, the giant who threw the ball at you is out, and
one member of your team can come back in.
At the beginning of the match the dodgeballs must go to the back line before they can go
forwardi.e. you cant just pick up a ball and drill someone from point blank range.
NO CUSSING
NO TIMEOUTS
**Tournaments may not be offered at every MOVE event. Rules are subject to change per
MOVE staff who are final authority on the court.
***Adults: Only one of you may be on the court/floor at one time.

We cant wait to see you at MOVE!

Darrells Rules and Expectations

MOVE 2015

--Distractions are anything that draws your focus and

attention away from whatever it is you are doing.
**Purpose: MOVE summer conference is an opportunity to get out of our normal
routine and element at home and meet with God in an intimate way free of
distractions. The intent of these rules and expectations is to set boundaries that
will enhance this experience.**
1) Follow MOVE rules (Previous page) and Johnson University Campus rules
at all times because
2) We will be, representing Jesus and Elberton Christian Church to the world
while on this trip. So please act accordingly.
3) When curfews are set while at MOVE (and there will be curfews) obey them.
This might sound childish, BUT they are for your enjoyment of the trip and
for your health, yes your health (spiritually, mentally, and physically). This
week WILL be draining, so rest is very important to make it the best it
possibly can be.
4) Digital Devices are allowed on the trip under the following conditions:
a. Clean music ONLY!!! I know the kind of music that is out there and I
cant be standing over your shoulder checking the titles on your devices.
Clean isnt just no swear words, clean includes themes and topics as
well.
b. Must not get in the way of fellowship on the trip
c. Must be left in the dorm rooms at ALL TIMES while at MOVE.
d. Darrell or the present adult sponsor(s) have the authority to take devices
away if any of these conditions are broken.
e. If these conditions cant be met dont bring a digital device.

5) Cell Phones are allowed on the trip with the understanding that they will not
be a distraction. Use of social media must be limited to trip related posts or
use directed by MOVE (which does happen occasionally). Regular use of
phones that is not trip related will result in the phones being taken away.
6) If you are unsure if something might be a distraction while on the trip, odds
are it will be so dont act or take part in whatever that maybe.
7) Most important of all this is a great opportunity to spend close personal time
with God, meet new people, and PLEASE HAVE FUN!!!
****Any questions regarding these or any other rules/expectations see Darrell. ****
