3. HelpthemreceivethepoweroftheHolySpiritthroughtheprayoversession.
4. TeachthemhowtopraiseandworshipGod.

SPEAKERSPROFILE:
ThespeakershouldbeabrotherwhoisalsoaYFCleader.AsisterYFCleadercangive
thetalkifitisinanALLgirlsyouthcamp.

DYNAMICS:
1. After dinner, the team leader gathers the participants and reminds them to dress
properly for the next session. He will lead the opening prayer with a song before
introducingthespeaker.

2. Talkproper

3. After the conclusion, the speaker will explain and give some tips on the prayover
ceremony.

4. ThespeakerwillcontinuewiththeCommitmenttoChristCeremony.

5. The speaker prepares the participants for the prayover ceremony and cues the
facilitatorsiftheycannowstartwiththeceremony.

6. Aftertheparticipantsareprayedovertheyareencouragedtostayinaprayerfulmood.

7. As soon as all the participants are prayed over, the team leader will give a brief
explanationofwhatandhowisworshipdone.(RefertotheTeamLeadersHandbook)

8. Full Worship to be led by the team leader. The team leader will give the closing
exhortation.

I. INTRODUCTION:ChristiansTodayandBefore

A. Christianstoday:

Christianstodaycan'tseemtoliveastheyshould;theyseemweak,lacking
power.Alotofpeopletodayincludingtheyouthhaveforgottentodreambigand
justsettleforless.Manypeoplethinkthatlifeishopeless.

However,Christianswerenotalwayslikethat.

B. Christiansbefore:

TheChristiansintheearlyChurchpossessedcertainstrengthandboldnessof
character, a power that attracted so many to join this group of fishermen, slaves,
GentilesandJews.

So many converts from different races, nations, social strata were brought
intotheirfold.By325AD,theEmperorofRomehimselfbecameaChristian.And
today,itisthelargestfaithintheworld.

What was this power that transformed 12 insignificant men and their
brethren into the pillars that established Christendom? It wasn't human might or
intellect,itwasthePoweroftheHolySpirit,thesameSpiritthatcontinuestofilland
transformthelivesofsomanyChristianstoday.

II. THEPOWEROFTHEHOLYSPIRIT

A. Misconceptions:
1. God'smessenger.
2. ThedoveinChrist'sbaptism.

B. TheHolySpiritisGod,the3rdPersonintheBlessedTrinitywhoproceedsfromthe
FatherandtheSon.TheHolySpiritisequaltotheFatherandtheSonbecauseHe
isGod.

God promised a spirit that will enable all men to follow Him. He

WhenwereceivethepoweroftheHolySpirit,webeginapersonaland
intimate relationship with God. Gods word becomes alive in us as we read
scripture. We hear Him speaking to us in our hearts and we experience Him
touchingourlives.

As we grow in our personal relationship with God, He slowly molds us


intoHislikeness,removingtheselfishnessinourhearts,makingusmoreloving,
morelikeJesus.

Gods Spirit empowers us to serve, giving us the boldness to speak His


wordsandmakinguswillingtofacethechallengeofbringingotherstoHim,in
spiteofthedifficultiesandtrialswemayface.

III. HOWDOWERECEIVETHEPOWEROFTHEHOLYSPIRIT

Butwecantakecertainpointsfromthiseventtohelpandguideusinreceivingthe
BaptismoftheHolySpirit.

a. ThesearegiftsthatGodgivestohelpusinourChristianlives.
The gifts are wisdom, healing, miracles, prophecy, discernment,
faith,tongues,knowledge,andinterpretation

Note:Thespeakershouldexplainallthegiftsofthespiritbutwouldgive
emphasisontheGiftofTongues.Theexplanationbelowisareferencefor
thespeakeronthedifferentspiritualgifts.

TheNineSpiritualGifts
i. Wisdomisnotjustgoodpracticaljudgmentorcommonsenseora
highdegreeofknowledge.ThewisdomthatisoftheSpiritiscentered
onJesus.
ii. Healing is the supernatural ability to effect a cure of physical or
otherhumanillnessthroughprayer
iii. Miraclesisthesupernaturalabilitytoperformmiraculousact,acts
that are not the result of any known natural law or agency but are
causedbydivineintervention.
iv. ProphecyisthegiftbywhichapersonisusedbyGodtospeakonhis
behalf
v. Discernment is the gift by which a person can recognize the spirit
behindaparticularsituation.
vi. Faith is not just an intellectual belief in God, but a confident
assuranceinGodwhichallowsustomoveforwardwithoutanydoubt
atall.

vii. Tonguesisacharismaticgiftbywhichapersonisabletoutterwords
or sounds which are not known or understandable to his human
intellect.
viii. Knowledge is not just knowing a lot of things through study or
experience. Knowledge that is of the spirit is the fruit of revelation,
foundedonfaith,andsynthesizedbyChristianexperience.
ix. Interpretationisacompaniontothegiftoftongues,whenusedfor
prophecy,andisnecessarysothatthosewhohearmayunderstand,
andsobeedified.

b. ExplainespeciallytheGiftofTongues.

ItisagiftofprayerItisaprayerthatonlyGodcanunderstand
andonlywecanspeak.Becauseofthisspiritualgift,oursoulsareableto
saywhatitreallywantstoexpresstoGod.

This spiritual gift pleases God. We humble ourselves when we


prayinalanguagewedon'tunderstand.ThistotalhumilitypleasesGod.

Thegiftoftonguesbecomesadoorwaytotheotherspiritualgifts.

C. HindrancestoreceivingtheHolySpirit.

1. UnrepentantAttitude(Iamneverwrong)

SinalienatesusfromGod.Whenwerefusetoberepentantforoursin,
wekeepourselvesfromexperiencingGodandHisSpirit.Thisiswhyweneedto
gotoconfession.

2. FeelingofUnworthiness(AmIworthy?)

Everyone is unworthy, what the Lord requires is simply a humble spirit


thatapproachesHiminrepentanceandasksforforgiveness.

3. Pride(Iamtoocoolforthis)

KeepsusfromacknowledgingourneedforGod,andaskingHimintoour
lives,butGodwillkeeponknockinguntilwe'rehumbleenoughtoaskHimin.

Ifwe'reafraidoflookingfoolish,wemusthumbleourselvesifweareto
receiveGod'sSpirit.

Note: People are often willing to look foolish for other reasons, e.g.
concerts,basketballgames,celebrities.Weshouldbemorewillingtolookfoolish
forGod.

4. Doubt(Areyouforreal?)
Encourage the participants to focus on what's true. God promised His
spiritandHewon'tgobackonHisword.

5. Reliance on nonChristian beliefs and objects (I get strength from these


things)
Example:amulets,antinganting,agimat,etc.

IV. CONCLUSION

LivingtheChristianlifeseemsalmostimpossible.Butwehaveahope,ahopein
God'spromiseHisHolySpiritwhichstrengthensusandgivesusthegiftsweneedin
ordertoliveastruesonsanddaughtersofGod.

Note:Ournextactivitywillbethecommitmentceremonyandprayoversession.
Givetheparticipantageneralviewofwhattheycanexpect.TheSpeakermustaskthe
participants to stretch and exercise a bit to avoid people sleeping while the session is
ongoing.

Our purpose tonight is to ask the Lord for the power of His Holy spirit that
enablesustoliveastrueChristians.Todothis,wewillfirsthavetocomebeforeour
Lord,believeandacceptHimasourpersonalLordandSaviorandcommitourlivesto
Him.Afterthis,wewillpraywithoneanotherfortheBaptismoftheHolySpirit.

A. ExplaintheSession

1. This is not a new baptism. We were all baptized when we became Catholics.
What we want to do now is to pray for one another so that we can immerse
ourselvesinGod'sSpiritandbeempoweredasChristians.

Christ.

somewheremoreconduciveandprivatefortheprayover.

c. Processofprayingover.

PrayerofThanksgiving:Yourdiscussiongroupleaderswillthankthe
Lordforthecommitmentthatyoujustmade.

Prayer of Deliverance: Casting out the works of Satan in your life.

B. FinalTips

1. Relax.

Our pray over session, and your decision to follow the Lord, is very
important,butdon'tletthismakeyouanxious.Relaxandbeatpeace,thiswill
makeiteasierforyoutoopenuptotheLord.

2. Don'texpectaparticularexperience.

Expecting one particular type of experience might keep you from


recognizing God's work in you. God knows you more than you know yourself.
Heknowsexactlyhowheshouldtouchyou.

3. Don'tanalyzethesoundsyoumake.

Inspeakingorprayingintongues,justfocusontheLordandpraiseHim.
WhatcomesoutofyourmouthandhowyoupraiseGodisuptoHim.

4. Initiate.

God respects you, and won't force you to praise Him in tongues. You
havetoinitiateprayinginalanguageyoudon'tknow,andthenGodwillinspire
youandgiveyouthewordstosay.

(e.g.EvenifGodhasalreadyinspiredyoutowriteasong,thesongwill
neverbeheardunlessyouactuallypickupaguitar,playthetuneandwritethe
words.Inthesameway,youhavetobeginprayingintonguesbyfirstinitiating
it.)

FocusonGod.WorshipHiminyourownwords.

Onceyou'verunoutofwordstoworshipGod,utterthefirstsyllables
thatcomesintoyourmindandusethisforworship.

Focus on worshipping God and not the words you use to worship,
thenletGodtakecontrol.

C. COMMITMENTCEREMONY

1. After the explanation, the speaker or team leader asks the participants to
meditateaboutallthetalks.

2. While the participants are meditating, a meditative song may be played (e.g.
HereIamtoWorship,Heaven).Werecommendthatthereshouldonlybeone
songforreflection.

3. Afterthesongissung,thespeakerasksthosewhowanttomakeacommitment
toChristtostandup.Then,thePrayerofCommitmentisrecitedtogether.

VII. CLOSINGEXHORTATION(Aftertheworship)

A. Differentpeopledifferentexperiences.

1. Somemayhaveprayedintongues,criedorsimplyfeltGod'spresence.Others
may have had a very simple experience. The Holy Spirit comes to each of us
differently.
2. AnemotionalexperienceisnotanindicationofGod'sHolySpirit.Rather,focus
on the fact, that you committed yourself to Jesus Christ and that is the most
important. If you asked for His Spirit, whatever experience you had, He surely
gaveittoyou.

B. Satanwilltemptyoutodoubt.

Hewillneverceaseintryingtotakeawaythetreasureyouhavejustreceived
today. (The speaker should give an example on how Satan will tempt them to
doubt.)

C. Don'texpectallyourproblemstogoaway.

Focus on the truth. Now you have God and through all your problems, He
willalwaysbethere.Andtheseproblemswillneveroverwhelmyou.

D. Goeasyonsharingwithotherswhatyouhaveexperienced.

1. All of these things were first explained to you before they were done. Don't
expectyourfriendstounderstandyou.
2. Try to explain what you went through in a very ordinary and understandable
way.Betteryet,sharetothemwhatyouexperiencedbyshowingthechangein
youasChristbeginstodwellatthecenterofyourlife.

E. Befaithful/TakecareoftheSpirit.

1. Likeanygift,thegiftyoureceivedtonightcanbelost,souseit.
2. YoucommittedtofollowtheLord,befaithfultothatdecision.
3. Have a daily prayer time where you can experience and get to know God and
whereHecanslowlybutsurelyworkinyourlifedaily.

VIII.

CONCLUSION

WhentheHolySpiritcomesuponyou,youwillbefilledwithpowerandyou
willbewitnessesforMeinJerusaleminallofJudeaandSamariaandtotheendsof
theearth.Acts1:8
