1. Identify the methods used to dispose foul water (sanitary and storm water) from buildings.
Evaluate alternative systems in terms of functionality, efficiency, cost and maintenance.

2. Identify the methods used to dispose of black and gray water from urban areas. You must
refer to both above ground and below ground techniques. Explain onsite and off-site sewer
treatment systems used. (P3.2, P3.3)
3. Compare the methods used to remove and dispose of domestic and commercial refuse
(solid waste) from buildings. (P3.4)
4. Analyze the requirement to provide mechanical circulation for people and goods in
buildings. You must comment on selection and operational requirements. (P4.1)
5. Analyze the design criteria and principles for lifts and escalators. You must refer to spatial
requirements, efficiency (round trip time, transportation capacity, average waiting time) and
cost etc. (P4.2)
6. Identify the health and safety risks associated with lifts and escalator operation in
buildings (P4.3)
7. Explain the requirement of services coordination in buildings at design and construction
stages of building. You must particularly refer to the negative outcomes of inadequate
coordination in those two phases (P5.1)
