Preliminary Exercise

The video has a black and white colour scheme throughout to trick the eye as we had
many jump cuts however the colour scheme makes it less obvious. The colours of the
shots help make the shot progression flow nicely into each other.
For instance, there was a close up of the feet running towards the camera and
suddenly this changes to a wide shot normally we would easily recognise this
however because of the colour scheme the audiences attention was drawn away from
the cutting and continuity issues. This helped to succeed match on action because the
colours created a visual bridge of the same actions happening using different shots.

The genre was thriller and this was reflected from the use of many different shots of
the running. The variety of shots helped build a sense of tension and an enigma code
was created because the audience will wonder who the character is and why is she
running? Enigma codes and an edgy atmosphere are conventions for this genre.
In addition the colour theme helps sets the mood of mystery for the thriller piece.

The video follows the 180 degree rule to a certain extent. We broke the rule when
filming the conversation shot, this was done deliberately to experiment and see any
possible solutions to fixing it when editing. The solution was the colour scheme.

At the beginning there was a black screen featuring diegetic sounds. The sound was
the gun shot and breathing. This builds the suspense because nothing is revealed about
the sounds, for example the gun shot implies danger. Already at the start enigma
codes are generated. The breathing repeated; this revealed a mystery of who was
breathing at the beginning. It is likely the audience would assume the person running
away was the one breathing.

The cut transition from the black screen creates shock because is sudden and
unexpected. Reflecting on the situation in the video, the narrative is unpredictable and
abrupt.

Theres two shot with the actor opening the door, one from behind and in front. For
the editing it allowed us for the audience to see the action from all sides creating an
omnipresent atmosphere; which reflects on the genre because the audience would feel
like a witness.

We included two scenes of the actor running down the stairs, the camera was in
different positions but it still flowed due to the colour scheme. The jump cut did
reflect on the actions being quick and edgy so in that sense the jump cuts should of be
recognisable for a conventional reason.

We followed the 180 degree rule for when the actor fell down. The different angles
helped to capture the incident and showed how sudden and quick it was suggesting the
actors worry as she is about to get injured.
