Part X - FLU PREVENTION

The Western Medical system says Flu virus is a pathogen, it invades the host,
there is no way to kill the virus, and all that can be done is prevent spread, and
treat symptomatically.
In Traditional Medicine one can identify population at risk and prevent infection in a
more dynamic and less passive way. One would ask these questions first:
1. Which Zang Fu, [organ system], is compromised first?
2. Which primary element rules this organ system?
3. Which secondary element damages, by over control, this primary element?

4. What are the organ systems in this secondary element?
5. Can we set the primary and the secondary elements, on the 5 element grid,
and get a picture which confirms to classical Qi energetic pattern?
6. Having established steps 1 to 5, can we now ...
7. Confirm the Qi energetic pattern by signs and symptoms on these 2 elements?
No matter how complex an illness, by following these simple steps we can find out
the cause, and take steps to prevent it.
The seed of this system is the 50th Difficult Issue in the Nan Ching.
The fruition of it is Dr. Kaikobads Deep Diagnosis by Design.

Answering questions one by one:
Q 1.
Which Zang Fu, [organ system], is compromised first in Viral Influenza?
A. Lung - Large Intestine system.

Q 2.
Which primary element rules this organ system?
A. Metal.
3. Which secondary element damages, by over control, this primary element?
A. Fire.
4. What are the organ systems in this secondary element?
A. Heart - Small Intestine.
5. Can we set the primary and the secondary elements, on the 5 element grid,
and get a picture which confirms to classical Qi energetic pattern?
A. Here it is:

Q. What does all this mean exactly?

A. That people who have a disharmony in Fire, or will have Heart Qi deficiency, will
be vulnerable to Viral Flu.

Signs and Symptoms [S & S] of Viral Flu:
When we say viral flu we mean the many types which have manifested over
recorded history. For all of those the general S & S has been as depicted below with
some variations:

On this page we applied S & S to a 5 E grid. Having removed the non elemental
panels we have remaining 4, of which 3 apply to Metal, Lung, which is usually
written LU Metal:

The puzzling question remains: granted most symptoms are on Metal as the
primary element, there are none on the secondary element.
Here is the answer, which holds the key to the prevention of viral flu:
The S & S are very visible on primary element because this is an acute infection
with all the signs of an Excess.
The S & S on Heart element Fire, the secondary element, are hidden because
these have become chronic, as these have been around for a long time, probably
yeas, sometimes since birth.
In viral flu therefor LU Metal will be visible and of a yang, external and Excess
nature, while HT will be hidden, yin, internal and deficient.
To prevent viral flu confirm a HT Qi deficiency, and then shore it up.
Very likely an attack will be prevented, and if it does happen, will resolve rapidly
with minor S & S.

If you have been practicing for a while you must have built up a database of S & S
of a HT deficiency.
In the authors experience these are main ones, of the many recorded:
1. Malar flush - a reddish hue on cheek which registers heat in afternoon. It can be
acute and obvious or chronic and faded, but if you look for it, it can be found.
2. A fissure in tongue which begins at center in ST area and ends in tip of tongue,
often causing a small separation of the two sides.
3. A thin tongue prone to narrow from side to side.
In the previous Issue we had promised:
Preventive point
prescription for Ebola
Actually the one for viral flu is almost the same and we present a common
preventive prescription of acupuncture points for both. It is assumed that first the
S & S on HT have been confirmed.

Part 2. Even movement or sedate:

A case walks into your clinic with a condition shown in the image below. For one
reason or another she cannot communicate and you are left with figuring out what
could have caused this. It has:
A destructive pathology to fingernails of ring and little finger
What is it? How would you place it on a 5 element chart? What would your
diagnosis be? And how would you treat it?

Answer:
Ring finger RF and nail belongs to TW which is located on Fire element
Little finger LF and nail belongs to HT & SI, also located on Fire element
both are damaged by either an infection or by a degenerative process
RF nail has own color, while LF nail is discolored
if degenerative process both would have been afflicted equally
seems like an infection which attacked LF first and then spread to RF

again, middle finger MF belonging to Pericardium is normal and so also Index.
Conclusion: this illness is due to an infective or degenarative process
Treatment
Check rest of system for disharmony
If all in harmony, work on LOCAL points like this:
1. SJ 3
2. LI 4 Hegu
3. SJ 5
Mode of stimulation: even movement.
Next work on general points like this:
4. ST 36
5. SP 6
6. SP 9
Next work on ear points using seeds like this:
7. Shenmen
8. Sub Cortex
