Background Information: In compliance with ISBE Administrative Code, Section 226,720: Each class for chikten ages 3 through § shail have at least one quaitied teacher for each § siudents in atiendance during the class. However, the district may increase the closs size 1o a maximum of 10 studers ‘when a paraprofessional [program assistant) is provided for the entire class. Due tothe increase in children needing special education services at the Early Childhood leva its necessary for the district fo add one ful time early chidhood teacher for the star of the 2015/2016 School Year. Dve fo the increase of kinderurien sludents Gt Minooke Elementary Schoo! ana Aux Sable Elementary School, the case load and class size limits would exceed that which twospecial ‘education teachers can provide. At Minooka Junior High School, we anticipate a grown in the number of students requiring special education instruction, which will exceed the case load and class size limits would exceed that which five special education teachers can provide, According to 23 iinois Administrative Code 226.735, special education case managers have a maximum case load of 20 students and class sizes must rot reach ‘over 8 students with a teacher when one chil in the classroom has more than 60% of ‘their schoo! day in the special education environment. During the March meeting the team also discussed the progress data on the Discovery Education assessments comparing assessment A scores to assessment C scores. ‘The students continue to show good growth in both areas of reading and math, which is one indicator that teachers are differentiating. ‘We have continued with staff development with teachers continuing to present on differentiation and engaging students at each steff meetings ona monthly bases. Grade levels take turns each month presenting on what is happening in their classrooms. Special Education staff and support staff have also presented on how they differentiate with and engage students. Teachers have also taken opportunities to observe differentiation happening in other teacher classrooms. In addition, differentiation has been discussed at monthly team meetings through articles. Different ion and student engagement continues to also be monitored through classroom observations by the principal. Teachers have continued to include how they are differentiating for students in thelr lesson plans. ) : Minooka Elementary School ai ee School Improvement Rising Star Undate Minooka Elementary School has worked on 9 indicators to implement for the 2014-2015 schoolyear. ‘The Rising Star Plan of schoo! improvement implementation has set the bar for teacher involvement and leadership throughout our current school yar. This process is team: orlented and has supported the natural leadership of many MES teachers and staf. The continuous improvement plan helps togve @ ‘Focus to all aspects of leaning and safety within a schoo! and holds all School improvement Teon ‘members accountable for implementation, Below you wil ind thre goals for Minooka Elemestary School thus far ‘Team Structure: Leadership Roles—more schookimproverent team members ae taking on leadership positions and showing initiative as the implementation of the Rising Star plan has taken place. Members coordinated observations, team sharing sessions, and presentations at staff meetings Collegiality/Teaming- focus on teaming and trust building ~ Planning and Preparation has now been integrated into our staff meetings. This enables staff to discuss issues that have rsen and collaboratively plan for improvement and resolution. ‘Curriculum: Close Reading~Statf has focused on differentation through a prafessionalbook study. Grade level teachers presented chapters and activities to the staff during staff meetings ‘Technology sharing craft knowledge/websites/integreted technology within lessons/newsletters Data Use—we continue to have our Data Day four times per year to analyze data and ta plan for future instruction. ‘Stakeholder Involvement: School Compact~ this document outined the expectations uf ‘teachers, sc100} personnel, primary caregivers, and students. t was distributed in October of 2016 via the principal newsletter. Teachers have supported the compact by including parents in ‘the classroom structure. This year our music programs highlighted instructional practices through our music programs. Parents attended regularly scheduled music sessions. There has bbeen positive feedback from parents to this newly integrated performance-based showcase of student's learning. SHOUT Team: Student Council students and staff reached out to our ‘community this school yearby sponsoring clothes and food drives. The students also sponsored activities for our student body. A spelling Jam, anti-bullying messages, Smenci sales, and many more activities were provided for MES students Minooka Intermediate Schoo! Rising Star Plan SIP Update - Spring 2015 ‘Minooka Intermediate Schoo! identified three objectives to focus on and monitor when developing our Schoo! Improvement Plan, We currently have many supports in place in our school, but would to continue to focus on {improving all aspects ofthe school environment. ll staff continue to promote the MIS mission to make instruction meaningful and encourage students to be respectful, responsible, and ready. Teachers keep a main focus on meeting the needs ofall learners by creating engaging lessons that are tallore¢ to spetifi student needs. ‘The first indicator that we continue to focus on i creating a positive and welcoming environment at Minooka Intermediate School. We are focusing on continuing to recognize students for thelr accomplishments weekly as well as at our quarterly assemblies. Students are given wampus by staff as part of our indan Pride student recognition. Students are selected as students ofthe quarter in ith grade and students of the month in sith grade for exhibiting the PRIDE(Positive, Respectful, Innovative, Determined, and Engaged) qualities. We are also continuing to recognize our “oval” standing staf this year by creating a staff recognition form that ‘an be accessed from our school home page. Parents, students, staff members, and communly members can lick the link to nominate a staff member. Nominations are shared at faculty meetings and twostaff members are featured weekly on our “ow” standing staf member bulletin board and in our newsletter and weekly lannouncements. We have created a staff member ofthe month parking spot that we rafleoffevery month, ‘Another indicator that we are focusing on is the teachers Incorporating the use of technology h their ‘classrooms wren It enhances instruction and bullds 21s century learning Skil, Teachers havefocused on utilizing technology to enhance learning in their classrooms, Many teachers have taken the time to present specific tools that they have tothe faculty at our monthly faculty meetings. Our technology associate has shown our teachers many technology tricks and tips that they can use in their classrooms to enhance learning We have also written and received two grants from Exxon Mobil that we have used to purchase additional technology for our teachers to use. Teachers are incorporating technology into thelr classrooms more. frequently and we are secing a carry over by the students from classroom to classroom, ‘The last indicator thatthe school improvement team selected is teachers will differentiate instruction based ‘on assessment results to provide support for some students and enhanced learning opportunites for others. ‘Teachers consider informal classroom observations as well as formative and summative assessments when designing lessons. The main focus was on using data to differentiate Instruction and engage students, To reach that goal we hosted staff development concentrating on identifying student learning styes, creating tered lessons and using pre-assessments to define previous knowledge, We also provided teachers time to analyze local assessment data to determine student achievement and differentiate instruction Administrators ‘monitor progress of these objectives through informal and formal classroom observations. Abuletin board was also created in the teacher's lounge for staff to share ideas of what is workingin thelr clasrooms. in ‘addition, at eacn team and/or faculty meeting teachers ae presenting examples of differentiation they are ang ‘5 Minooka Jr. th School Rising Star Plan SIP Update - Spring 2015 Minooka Junior High identified three objectives to focus on and monitor when developing our choo! Improvement Plan, We currently have many supports in place in our school, but will continue to focus on improving all aspects ofthe school environment. All staff continue to communicate the MJHS expectations as those inform the draft compact which will be comprised of the MIMS Vision and Mission, to improve Math achievement through Digits Math and a reconsideration of Math minutes, nd to promote student engagement through technology integration with tools such as Google Classroom and Digits Math software and the acquisition and use of additional hardware. Though the MUHS Compact i still in the draft process, this compact focuses on Minooka Junior High becoming ‘ot jst the providers of strong curriculum but communicators of information—through constant contact with TeacherEase, report cards, emails, phone calls, and conferences; a collaboration with parents through shared goals of academic and social success for our children; and for students demonstrating the defined qualities of the CHIEF—Conscientiousness, Honesty, Integrity, empathic, and Focused. Our initial and continuing efforts have focused on communicating clearly the expectations for our CHIEFS and sharing those expectations with all staff, students, and parents. Following up on that communication has proven both challenging and satisfying as students and parents, staff and administration see a steadfast and consistent mestage for the expectations at Minooka Junior High School Coupling our Data Days along with classroom engagement with the Digits Math software and Discovery “Testing along with the new PARCC testing, we are looking at how to better engage and differentiate Instruction to all our students in both whole class settings and Rtl opportunites for students intheir Math classes. Additionally, we continue to couple with Minooka High School tc offer our students enrichment ‘opportunities beyond the MJHS offerings with two full sections of Geometry Honors courses and anather student offeringin Alg Il Honors for the 2015-2036 school year. Through the continuing practice of examining student performance through regular probes and global testing, and classroom formative and summative assessments, MJHS continues to articulate within the Math department and across teams toefine the Instructional practices and implementation of Math technology tools. ‘The last indicator of improvement ithe implementation of technology across the curlculum including the above-mentioned Digits Math, whichis in its first year of implementation. Through parent communication meetings and teachers and students collaborating within the classroom, the implementation of Digits was 3 relatively smooth process. Students were successful in learning to use builtin features that alowed them to become self-reliant in overcoming stumbling blocks with this curricular transition. This same sef-reliance on ‘the technology tools proved fruitful in the PARCC testing which occurred ratver unremarkably and with students seeing few Issues that hindered thelr progress. Additionally, in partnership with the PTO, MIHS was able to add additional ChromeBooks to the available hardware for students to access as needed, with teachers focusing on Google Tools such as Google Classroom. There isa parent friendly matrix that utilizes appropriate positive language to reinforce expectations for school. There are three universal prize periods for the students to enjoy prizes such as a movie and pajama day, a Dr. Seuss celebration day, and a sports field day. Students earn a die cut image of something representative ofthe goal (popcorn, ‘books, or sports imeges) and earn the slips of paper working together to fil the themed hallway display to a set goal line. ll staff passes out the die cuts when the studentsare ‘making good choices. Parents are informed through our teacher and building newsletters. Ithas been a very positive experience for our staff, students, and familles| Character/Anti- Bullying super activities Spring 2015 Update: ‘Students have so far earned two ofthe three character universal student body prizes. The final universal reward will be the May 27% Field Day sponsored by our PTO and parent Volunteers, The MPC Character Matrix language may need to be updated for the 15-16 school year but the structure of the program has provided a sound approach to promoting ‘good character in young students, Also, the PTO sponsored an Anti-Bullying day assembly that was used during our “Super Friend” week where we reinforced good choices inthe building and promoted positve peer relationships. \$ Walnut Trails Elementary School ‘School improvement Plan Update ~ April 2015 1 Curriculum Development During each of the Early Dismissal/School Improvement days, lanuary 16, Febriary 12, ‘and March 20), Welnut Trals Elementary Schoo! teachers met together as teams in their rade level. the teachers worked on documenting and updating the resources they ‘currently use to supplement the Good Habits, Great Readers reading program.
