EssentialPreparation:
1. Gothroughthisstudentstudyguidecarefully,allmaterialsassigned,andthe
instructionsonthissheet.Youneedtoconfineyourselftousingthevocabulary
andstructuresthestudentsarelearning.Thisisoneofthehardestpartsof
teachingbeginningstudents.Youneedtopracticespeakingusingvocabularythe

exercise.Preparenecessarymaterialsasneeded.
3. PreparetogiveinstructionsandresponsestostudentsinsimpleTurkish.You
needtothinkaboutthisandpracticeaheadoftime.Remembertotrainyourselfto
useacommonsetofinstructionsandresponses.Youcangraduallyaddmore
complicatedinstructionsandresponsesasthesemesterprogresses.
4. Bringwithyouabackpackorbagwithdifferentobjectsonetypicallycarriesina
backpack.ThiswillbeusedinPartC.
5. Prepareassetofflashcardswiththecardinalnumbers010foradrillexercisein
PartA.
6. BringwithyouphotographsorimagesforadescriptionexerciseinPartBandC.
7. Bringwithyoutheidentitycardsyouhavebeenusingintheprevioustwo

knowledgeofthecardinalnumbersnamesinTurkish.Showtheflashcardandask
forthepronunciationofthenumbersnameinTurkish.

ScenarioI:Withtheirpartners,studentswillidentifyasmanyobjectsaspossiblein
theclassroomandtelltheirpartnershowmanythereareofeachobject.
ScenarioII:BasedonthedialogueforhomeworkonZafertheCuriousAlien,eachpair
willreenactasimilarsituationinwhichZaferarrivesinTurkeyaskingquestionsand
introducinghimselftootherTurks.Thequestionsandconversationshouldbesimilartothe
dialoguestudentscompletedforhomework.

PartC:Wholegrouptogether(1520minutes)
Activity1:Usingtheobjectsyoubroughtit,havestudentspracticenamingthe
objectsandusingnumberstoexplainhowmanythereareofeachobject.
Activity2:Usingthebackpackorbagyoubroughtit,askstudentstoidentifyallof
theobjectsyouplacedinthebackpackusingthevocabularytheyknowfromUnits1,
2,and3.Afterwards,haveeachstudenttalkaboutwhatisinhis/herbackpack.
Activity3:Studentswillperformthesectionofdialoguetheyhavememorizedbefore
thegroupforpronunciationpractice.
Activity4:Usingthephotographsorimagesyouhaveprepared,askstudentsto
describethedifferentobjectsorscenesinthephotographs.

GivethestudentsachancetoaskquestionsinEnglishduringthelast510
minutes.Thisisagoodtimetodiscussculturalissuesthatcameupduringthe
session.Thisisalsoagoodopportunitytodiscusssomepronunciationerrors.End
thesessiononapositivenote.Practiceappropriateparting/goodbye/seeyouagain
phrases.
