A lake is a body of still water.

The water may be fresh or salt.

It should be localized.
It should be surrounded by land.
These are larger and deeper than ponds.
Lakes are not part of oceans.

Natural lakes are found in mountain areas.

Other lakes found along the course of rivers.
Most of the lakes on the earth are fresh water lakes.
Most of the rivers on the earth are present in the Northern Hemisphere.
Most of the world lakes are present in Canada.
Finland is known as Land of Thousand Lakes.
Minnesota one of the states in USA is known as Land of Ten Thousand Lakes.
LAKE VAN:
This is the largest salt water lake in Turkey. (Turkey capital city: Ankara).

It is a saline lake.
The water in Lake Van is brackish.

Brackish water: This is the water that has more salinity

than fresh water but not as much as Sea water.

LAKE VICTORIA:
This is located in Africa.

This is the largest lake in Africa.

Victoria Lake spreads over Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya.
The Victoria Lake is named after Queen Victoria of UK.
This is the largest tropical Lake in the World.
This is the Worlds second largest fresh water lake. (First is Lake Superior in North
America).

CASPIAN SEA:
This is the Worlds largest lake.

This is the Worlds smallest geological Ocean.

This is the largest enclosed body of water on the earth.
This has no outflows (endorheic).
This has inflow from the North; hence the water in the North region is fresh.
The water in the Southern region it has salinity.
LAKE SUPERIOR:
This is the largest fresh water lake in the World. (If Michigan and Huron are seen as two
different lakes).

This is located in USA and Canada.

It is one of the five Great Lakes in the North America.

This is located in Russia.

This is located in the Siberian region.

This is the deepest lake in the World.
It is a continental rift type lake.
This is the clearest lake in the World.

The transparency or clearness of water in Seas or

lakes is measured by Secchi Disk.

The Secchi Disk is created in the year 1865 by

Pietro Angelo Sechhi Sj of Italy.

This is related to water turbidity.

(Turbidity is the cloudiness of water caused by

This is the highest commercially navigable lake in the World.

This is the highest lake at the Sea level in the World.
