Springfield Friends Meeting is accepting applications for a
new minister. The meeting house presides over a gorgeous
12 acre campus in the southern part of High Point, North
Carolina. Founded in 1773 when we were still a colony under
the rule of England, our meeting has produced many prominent
Quaker leaders and ministers, including presidents of Guilford
College and Clerks of Friends United Meeting.
The third meeting house on our historic site, built in 1858,
is now a museum, and it reflects the architecture of the old
Friends meetings where men and women sat on opposite sides
during quiet, unprogrammed worship. It is attached by a
beautiful colonnade to the current meeting house constructed
in 1927, and which was designed to accommodate the full-time
pastoral worship service with music that we moved to in 1913.
Our cemetery, dotted with mature oaks and 100+ year old
boxwoods, dates to 1789.
Although formerly a community-based meeting with many
members coming from the closer area, most members now
live outside the community. We average approximately 75
members each Sunday, and we are looking for a new minister
with energy who can help us explore new ways of becoming
stronger and larger.
Our membership refers to itself as the Springfield family
because we love and support each other through celebrations,
adversity and loss.
Interested persons should contact our committee chair, Tom
Terrell (tom.terrell@smithmoorelaw.com), and copy Millie Simmons (milliesimmons@northstate.net) who is both a committee member and the meetings administrator.
