Introduction
TheToolboxfortheModelingandAnalysisofThermodynamicSystems(TMATS)isaSimulink
toolboxintendedforuseinthemodelingandsimulationofthermodynamicsystemsandtheircontrols.
TMATScontainsgenericthermodynamicandcontrolscomponentsthatmaybecombinedwitha
variableinputiterativesolverandoptimizationalgorithmtocreatecomplexsystemstomeettheneeds
ofadeveloper.DevelopmentofthistoolwasinitiatedonbehalfoftheNASAAviationSafetyProgram's
VehicleSystemsSafetyTechnologies(VSST)project.
Description
TheTMATSsoftwareprovidesatoolboxforthedevelopmentofthermodynamicsystemmodelsit
containsasimulationframework,multiloopsolvertechniques,andmodularthermodynamicsimulation
blocks.WhilemuchofthecapabilityinTMATSisintransientthermodynamicsimulation,the
developers'maininterestsareinaerothermalapplicationsassuch,onehighlightoftheTMATS
softwarepackageistheturbomachineryblockset.ThissetofSimulinkblocksgivesadeveloperthe
toolsrequiredtocreatevirtuallyanysteadystateordynamicturbomachinerysimulation,e.g.,agas
turbinesimulation.Insystemswherethecontrolorotherrelatedsystemsaremodeledin
MATLAB/Simulink,theTMATSdeveloperhastheabilitytocreatethecompletesysteminasingle
tool.
TMATSiswritteninMATLAB/Simulink(TheMathworks,Inc.),isopensource,andisintendedforuse
byindustry,government,andacademia.AllTMATSequationsweredevelopedfrompublicsources
andalldefaultmapsandconstantsprovidedintheTMATSsoftwarepackagearenonproprietaryand
availabletothepublic.ThesoftwareisreleasedundertheApacheV2.0licenseagreement.
