ASSIGNMENT
1. Cement Pointing 1:4 units 1 Sq m for 100 Sqm.
2. Cement plastering with thickness of 12 mm with coarse sand for 100 Sqm.
Cement Pointing: is the act or process of repairing or finishing joints in brick works, masonry
etc with mortar or lime.
Types of Pointing

Flush pointing
Ruled pointing
Weather or truck pointing
Raised or trucked pointing

Plastering: process of coating and covering the wall or ceiling by plaster. It can be made dry or
wet as per requirement.
Some of the Points is be consider while measurements pointing and plastering.

Mix of mortar (1:3, 1:4)

No. of coats and thickness of coat.

Nature of surface treatment ( neeru, sand face)
30 cm or below width is measured in running meter and above in square meter.

Deduction for opening > 0.5 sqm <3 sqm than
When both faces of wall are plastered with same plaster, deduction shall be made
for one face only.
50% of opening is deducted on each side if plastering is different type.
When door width is same as wall thickness than full deduction us made from each

side.
Opening more than 3 m shall be deducted from side but jamba, sofits, are added.
Plastering at a heights greater than 10 m above ground level shall be measured separately
in stage of 5 m meter height for out side
No deductions shall be made for end of joints, beam, post etc up to 0.5 Sqm and to no
additional is made for jambs, sofits, sills etc
Various types and proportion of pointing shall be measurement separately.

Calculation of quantity of cement mortar pointing and plaster:

For the calculation of cement mortar, let us assume that we use 1m3 of cement mortar. Procedure
for calculation is:
1. Calculate the dry volume of materials required for 1m3 cement mortar. Considering voids in
sands, we assume that materials consist of 60% voids. That is, for 1m3 of wet cement mortar,
1.6m3 of materials are required.
2. Now we calculate the volume of materials used in cement mortar based on its proportions.
Lets say, the proportion of cement and sand in mortar is 1:X, where X is the volume of sand
required.
Then, the volume of sand required for 1:X proportion of 1m3 cement mortar will be

3. Volume of cement will be calculated as:

Since the volume of 1 bag of cement is 0.0347 m3, so the number of bag of cement will be
calculated as:

For cement mortar in pointing of 1:4, the quantity calculated will be as below:
Sand quantity: = 1.6 X 4 / (1+4) = 1.12 cum
Quantity of cement (in bags):
Volume of cement = 1 X 1.6 / (1 + 4) = 0.32 cum
There number of bags required = Vol. of cement / vol. of sand = 1.12 / 0.32 = 3.5 bags.
Therefore 3.5 bags of cement for unit volume of pointing or 3.5 X 50 kg(weight per bag) = 175
kg for 1 cum
For 100 Sqm of pointing with 6 mm of thickness 10 X 10 X 0.006 (say) = 0.60 cum
Weight of cement 175 X 0.60 = 105.0 kg or 0.105 tones

For 100 cum of Plaster with 12mm thickness 10 X 10 X .012 (thickness of Plaster) = 1.2 cum
Weight of cement 175 X 1.2 = 210 kg or 0.210 tones
\Estimation of Labour and Tools for cement mortar:
For 1m3 of cement mortar, semi-skilled labour is required for 0.27 days for mixing, unskilled
labour for 0.26 for carrying of cement, sand and water. Hire charges for mechanical mixer is
taken in lumpsum of can be taken as 0.27 days for mixing 1cum of mortar.
