Assignment: Artist Statement

Stage 1: Reflect on an album you find meaningful in your your life. Consider
the time period, place/context, artist, songs (including lyrics, instruments,
etc), and artwork of the album. From there, write your interpretation of each
album aspect listed above. How does each aspect add to the meaning of the
music and the album as a whole? Explain how you use the time period,
place/context, artist, songs and artwork to make your interpretation of the
album.
Stage 2: Using the meaning-making and analyzing you have completed in
stage 1, create a narrative for the artist you have selected. Imagine you are
the artist and youre creating an artist statement to accompany the album.
The artist statement is used to explain how and why he/she made particular
decisions within the album features. In addition, explain how youd like your
listener to view and interact with the album.
Stage 3: Choose a forum or medium to post your artist statement. Consider
the audience you would like to reach and the most effective way to reach
them (ie. blogs, webpages, podcasts, etc.)

will be writing and presenting to your audience
P- to inform your audience of the intention of your album. You will make
meaning of the aspects of the album to explain
