1 million different
configurations

Pump modules

All the made-to-stock CR pump modules can handle the most demanding of liquids and pressures
and be adjustable to virtually any requirement. Of course, the modules can be combined in multiple
ways making it possible for us to provide you with a pump solution that matches your specific
needs. CR pumps come in many flow sizes and various grades of corrosion-resistant stainless
steel and an all-titanium variant. What follows is an overview of some of the most common CR
pump variants offered by Grundfos that we think would fit to a turbine-cooling system. However,
the overview covers only a fragment of the total pump range. Please do not hesitate to contact
Grundfos if your requirements are not covered by the overview.

Solution

All stainless
steel

Description
For applications exposed to corrosive
atmosphere, e.g. maritime applications or
where frequent wash-down occurs, a stainless
steel base plate and motor stool are available.
All parts exposed to the corrosive installation
environment are thus made of stainless steel.

Horizontal
mounting

Certain situations require the pumps to be

mounted horizontally.
The CR pumps can be designed to fit
installations with limited height, vehicles,
ships or earthquake-prone areas.
End-suction base can be supplied as option.

Our match
The CR pump comes as
standard in cast iron but can
be made in complete stainless
steel EN 1.4301 or EN 1.4401.
Relevant if high corrosion
resistance is required.
Depending on space and
installation requirements
the CR pump can be installed
either horizontally or vertically.
Horizontal installation
furthermore has a positive
effect on the bearing life.

Because of different thermal coefficients of

expansion, special designs are required.

Can be required when the

turbine needs to start at minus
40 degree C under start up and
until operation temperature is
reached.

Rubber
materials

Pumps fitted with chemical-resistant FXM

(Fluoraz) or FFKM (Kalrez) rubber O-rings are
available for applications, where the liquid may
damage standard O-ring materials, e.g. EPDM,
FKM and Viton.

Special types of rubber materials are available depending

on the type of cooling liquid
specified.

Pump
bearings

A wide variety of bearing materials are available to suit any application, e.g. silicon carbide,
bronze, tungsten carbide, and carbon-filled
PTFE.

Special types of bearing materials are available depending

on the type of cooling liquid
specified.

Belt-drive

For applications in remote areas or mobile

applications, where electric power is not available, belt-driven pumps powered by
e.g. a diesel engine or a steam turbine can be
supplied.

Could be used if you want the

pump driven by something else
than a standard motor.

A wide range of pipe connections can be supplied to the CR pump depending on application
or customer request.

Depending on whether you

demand a compact build-in
length on your pump or another
special solution in terms of
connection, you can get it for
the CR.

Refrigerant
pump

Connections

For applications handling temperatures down

to -40C, special coolant pumps are available.

CR pumps

MAGdrive

Need to pump dangerous, aggressive, volatile or precious liquid?

Then what you really
want is a completely
leak-free pump.

Leak-free pumps for hazardous liquid

Grundfos designed the CRN MAGdrive to be exactly that. Its pump shaft is rotated from the outside
by the forces of magnetism, so the liquid cannot escape its closed circuit. Everything stays put
which is good news for your processes, your working environment and the environment in general.

Rated power up to 22 kW

The advantages of the hermetically sealed magnetic drive are available on CRN pumps with a rated
power up to 22 kW. No matter how powerful a motor you need, you get a pump which combines
high speed and compactness and the benefits of patented technologies you wont find anywhere
else. Naturally, the MAGdrive series has the superior reliability and performance you expect from a
CR solution.

Customise as you please

A magnetic coupling is one way to customise your CR pump for demanding industrial applications.
There are many more. The CR range is famed for giving you the greatest possible choice: take your
pick from a wide range of motor types, materials, couplings, surface treatments and much more.
There are over one million possible combinations. So there is sure to be one to suit you.

How it works

A magnetic coupling uses the force of magnetism to transmit power from the drive to the shaft. As
the illustration shows, the magnets are located inside completely separate parts only the force of
magnetism connects the two. When the drive moves the magnets marked A, it makes the magnets
marked B turn as well, causing the shaft in the liquid to rotate and create the required pumping
action. In contrast to traditional pumps, the shaft does not penetrate through the two parts. This
means that there are no holes or seals through which the liquid can escape. The result is hermetically
sealed, safe pumping.

Shaft seals

In its most basic form,

a shaft seal combines
a rotating part with a
stationary part.

Extreme liquids call for extreme measures. Most pumps are used for watery liquids at temperatures
below 120C and pressures lower than 30 bar. When liquids go beyond these limits, special shaft
seal solutions are required to guarantee reliable operation.

Abrasive liquids
Poisonous and/or explosive liquids

Solution

MAGdrive
(sealless)

Description

Photo

MAGdrive (sealless) solution is the preferred solution if you want a hermetic closed pump or go for a completely maintenance free solution in
many years.
MAGdrive pumps are completely leak-free. They use the power of strong
magnets to turn the pump shaft from the outside, so there are no seals
or openings for the liquid to escape through. The result is safe, hermetically closed pumping.

Titanium
shaft seal

For applications involving a high risk of corrosion, an all-titanium shaft

seal variant is available for the all-titanium CRT pumps.

LiqTec
dry-running
protection

The Grundfos LiqTec is an electronic anti-dry-running sensor that stops

the pump immediately if it senses no liquid.
The LiqTec can also monitor the flow and temperature of the pumped
liquid and can operate as a PTC relay for the motor monitoring motor
overload.

Shaft seal
variants

Grundfos offers a wide range of balanced cartridge shaft seals with different seal faces, such as silicon carbide, carbon and tungsten carbide to
handle almost any industrial liquid.

Rubber
materials

Seals fitted with chemical-resistant FXM (Fluoraz) or FFKM (Kalrez) rubber O-rings are available for applications where the liquid may damage
standard O-ring materials, such as EPDM, FKM and Viton.

Our match

For applications with a need for improved

corrosion resistance, electropolished stainless
steel or all-titanium pumps are available.

If a special corrosion class is

required, then C3, C4 or C5 can
be supplied on request.

For applications with very strict requirements

of cleanliness. All pump parts have been
cleaned in hot soapy water, rinsed in de-ionised
water and packed in silicon-free plastic bags.

All Grundfos pumps are tested

with water. Some test water
will therefore remain in the
pumps. If that is not acceptable
then this could be the solution.

Special
colours

Pumps are available in a multitude of colours

to match any requirement.

If you have a special colour

preference, e.g. your standard
corporate colour, it can be
made to order. It could also be a
special paint type or thickness
to give you the corrosion class
you need.

Certificates

A wide range of pump and material certificates are available, e.g. inspection certificates
(Lloyds (LRS), Veritas (DNV), American (ABS),
etc.), material specification, duty-point verification, surface roughness, vibration test, motor
test, ATEX and much more.

Depending on the tests and

classifications required at the
place of installation a wide
range of certificates can be
supplied.

Multi
packaging

Pumps can be delivered on pallets without any

additional packaging (cardboard).

If needed the pumps can be

supplied in special packaging.

gigantic potential

Introduction

It was once said that great things come in small packages. When you meet the Grundfos CM pump
for the first time, you will certainly agree. This horizontal multistage pump has been created with
compactness and modularity as two of its central features. Add reliability and quiet operation to
the mix, and another innovative pump solution from Grundfos is born.
The Grundfos CM is designed to be used in a variety of applications. These include:
Temperature control
Washing & cleaning
Water treatment
Chemical and pharmaceutical industries

All parts exposed to the corrosive installation

environment are thus made of stainless steel.

The CM pump comes as

standard in cast iron (Type A),
but can be made in complete
stainless steel EN 1.4301 (Type I)
or EN 1.4401 (Type G). Relevant
if a high corrosion resistance is
required.

For OEM builders or where compactness is a

need the CM pump is one of the most compact
pumps on the market.

Compactness can be a big issue

in turbines were space always
is a limitation.

Certain situations require the pumps to be

mounted vertically.

Depending on space and

installation demands the CM
pump can be installed either
horizontally or vertically.

Thanks to the numerous configuration possibilities and range of materials, the Grundfos
CM pump can operate over a wide range of
temperatures: from -30C to 120C. If you
require different pumps for different applications, this flexibility and streamlining helps
keep maintenance and spare parts costs to a
minimum.

May be required when the

turbine has to start from cold
and the glycol water is down to
-30C during start up.

Pumps fitted with chemical-resistant FXM

(Fluoraz) or FFKM (Kalrez) rubber O-rings are
available for applications, where the liquid may
damage standard O-ring materials, such as
EPDM, FKM and Viton.

Special types of rubber materials are available depending

on the type of cooling liquid
specified.

Pump
bearings

A wide variety of bearing materials are available to suit any application, e.g. silicom
carbide, bronze, tungsten carbide and carbonfilled PTFE.

Special types of bearing materials are available depending

on the type of cooling liquid

Non-Stick
shaft seal

What is more, industry-wide problems with

sticking of shaft seals where SIC-SIC seal faces
are used have been eliminated. The new CM
solution builds on both the implementation of
a rotation stop on the stationary ring and the
presence of different surface finishes on the
stationary and the rotating rings.

Optimised
flow geometry

With our unique high-precision machinery, we have minimised the tolerances

used in the manufacture of the impeller and pump casing and optimised the flow
geometries of these two crucial components. The result: minimal backflow and
increased energy efficiency.

Maximal protection against corrosion
Cataphoresis on the inside of the pump means a longer lasting inside surface
that keeps efficiency high.

Surface
details

Sometimes, looking at the surface is a good thing. Grundfos TP/TPE pumps are
given cataphoresis surface treatments, consisting of Powercron cathodic electrocoating and zinc phosphate coating. Cataphoresis on the inside of the pump
means a longer lasting inside surface that keeps efficiency high.

Compact
perfection

The ratio between the length and width of the shaft in the pump is extremely
important. Large shaft diameters (D) and a short distance from impeller to motor
(L) maximize stability, ensuring lower maintenance costs. Grundfos pumps always
strive for the optimal proportion between the length and width of the shaft (L3/
D4).- Maximal shaft seal lifetime
- Especially well suited for frequency converter operation

Magna3

More than a pump

If you are looking for the best efficiency on the market combined with high intelligence and wide
range, look no further. The MAGNA3 is here.

Reliable innovation

The MAGNA3 is a circulator pump based on the tried and tested MAGNA technology and our industry-leading experience with electronic pumps. The permanent magnet motor, AUTOADAPT function
and integrated frequency converter are still part of the MAGNA package, but we have added some
additional, ground-breaking new technologies. The result is a cutting-edge piece of intelligent technology that retains the unrivalled Grundfos reliability.

The all-purpose circulator

Like its predecessor, MAGNA3 is the ideal pump for heating and cooling applications as well as domestic hot water circulation systems. It is designed to handle liquids down to -10C, which makes it suitable for both tough industrial tasks and ground source heat pump systems (GSHP). Furthermore, the
liquid temperature (-10C to +110C) is now independent of the ambient temperature (0C to +40C).
So whether your project requires heating or cooling MAGNA3 is the pump for you.

Grundfos GO

The intuitive handheld pump control, Grundfos GO, offers full remote access to Grundfos online
tools. With the most comprehensive mobile platform on the market Grundfos GO is designed to save

E-Solutions

Less hassle.
Less cost.
Greater peace of mind.

To ensure energy saving

Making a difference with E

The E is synonymous with energy savings and electronic control and basically the bottom-line
story of all Grundfos E-solutions. As a world market leader of intelligent, high-quality pumps and
pump systems we feel an obligation to keep at the forefront of the technological development,
introducing truly innovative solutions for the benefit of our customers and the environment. This is
exactly what we do with our comprehensive E-pump programme. Radiating quality and innovation
inside out, Grundfos E-pumps with integrated frequency converter are designed with total control,
customer convenience and environmental sustainability in mind. The best thing about an E-solution
from Grundfos is maybe that it can be set up from Grundfos before delivery. Meaning that you get a
product that is configured, making commissioning really fast and easy. It is more or less a plug and
pump solution.

The need for speed control

The ability to control pump speed according to current demand is the single most important factor in
reducing a pumps life cycle costs and energy consumption, because around 85% of the total cost of
owning a pump during its life is attributed to power consumption. With a Grundfos E-pump, energy
consumption can be reduced drastically in some application by up to 50%.

Description

Different
speeds

The Grundfos E-solutions can operate at different speeds in

order to optimise pump performance to the application:
Low speed, to obtain e.g.
- gentle handling of the liquid
- pumping at low NPSH level
- reduced noise emission

If you want to be in complete control of your cooling

system, a frequency converter in front of the pump will be
a huge advantage.

Oversynchronous
speed

Oversynchronous speed, to obtain e.g.

- more flow and head on a given pump size
- compact physical size

If you need the smallest pump you can get, than it could be
an idea to speed it up to size down. Furthermore you could
use the function if in periods you need more flow an head
than normal.

The advanced
control can
measure
and adapt
to special
applications

- Extended protection of process

- extended protection of pump and drive
- pump performance curve adjusted to match individual
applications

Why have a bigger flow than needed?

With this solution you can save costs simply by leaving out
the regulation valves.

Standstill
heating

An anti-condensation heater function makes it possible to

heat up the motor during standstill to avoid condensation
in the motor.

If for some reason you need motor heating of a turbine,

then motor heating is installed in the E-solution as a
standard.

Duty/standby

By interconnecting two pumps via the standard built-in

GENIbus interface, a duty/standby function of the two
pumps can be obtained.

E-solution from Grundfos, you do not need to programme

anything in your controller as it has already been done by
Grundfos.

Duty/assist

By interconnecting two pumps via the standard built-in

GENIbus interface, a duty/assist function of the two pumps
can be obtained.

Useful if you do not want to have two 100% pumps as in

the duty/standby solution, but maybe two 80% pumps.
The duty/assist function could be a real benefit to you if
your turbine has a load profile that does not require 100%
cooling capacity 24/7. Everything is set up by Grundfos.

Constant
whatever you
want!

When we say constant, we mean constant! E-pumps have

a built-in PI controller that provides closed-loop control of
virtually any value you want to control (available functions
depend on E-pump type and variant). For example: Constant
differential pressure. Constant temperature.

We have a built-in regulator so no matter if you want to

regulate by pressure, differential pressure, temperature or
something else we can handle it.

The user interface is self-explanatory and very easy to use.

Very useful if fast commissioning is needed, or you maybe

need to change something and you do not have a programming background. This can be done easily because the Esolution is developed for pumps and nothing else meaning
it can be made simpler.

Unique user
interface

Industrial bus
communication

All E-pumps are equipped with a standard

RS485 GENIbus interface.

This means that we can convert any

fieldbus standard on the marked. This
gives you some advantages both related
to operation of pump and monitoring of
pump and system.

Sensor

Grundfos offers a number of sensors to be

used in connection with E-pumps. All sensors
are with 4 - 20 mA output signal.
Pressure sensors: 0 - 25 bar
Temperature sensors: 0 - 100C
Differential pressure: 0 - 16 bar
Flow meters: 0.3 - 240 m/h

If you need sensors in the system, they

can be supplied and delivered together
with the pump. If you have an E-solution,
you can furthermore have the software
preset, so the pump knows the signal
and measuring range of the sensor when
delivered. This means saving on commissioning time.

Hydro MPC booster

a multi-pump
control system for
control of parallelconnected pumps

If you want reliability and optimum performance in your cooling system, then parallel
pumps could be the solution. Because no
matter the duty point we will be able to
switch pumps in and out depending on the
need. Booster sets from Grundfos are available for any type of pump.

An option if you have two pumps connected in parallel running at 75%. Then
you will able to do all the cooling with only
one pump when the wind is not so strong.
If you are on full load with the turbine and
one pump fails, you will be able to produce
some energy until you can repair.

28

vindmllebrochure.indd 28

9/4/2012 12:35:49 PM

When you make a offshore wind farm it is necessary to protect the fish in the water against the noise when hammering the turbine pile into the seabed. This is done by installing
a cofferdam outside the pile draining off the water in the
space between the two piles. This will reduce the noise to
the sea and when the wind turbine pile is hammered into
the seabed the cofferdam is lifted away and it is ready to be
used for the next pile.

SP systems

For water supply

When water needs to

move! Complete submersible pump systems

The SP range is your guarantee of high-quality water supply.

Capable of handling flows up to 470 m3/h and heads up to 810 m,
SP systems give you everything you need from a single supplier.
A total system combines a stainless-steel SP submersible pump, an
MS/MMS motor made specifically with submersible pump applications in mind and an MP 204 motor protection unit for added reliability. The complete package gives you complete peace of mind by
making sure your water supply application works every time. And
all the time.

Stainless steel to handle all environments

SP systems are used worldwide wherever efficient water handling

is called for. The main application areas are irrigation of farmland
and groundwater extraction for tap water, but there are many
other, more specialised uses. Impressive water fountains and
saltwater fish farms are just two examples see below for more.
Wherever you need water to move, SP systems will do it with complete reliability.

SP system handles tough jobs

High quality quickly becomes apparent when the job gets difficult.
It usually does. The SP pump resists sand and other abrasives; it
keeps operating when others give up. You can even choose extra
high-grade stainless steel for very severe conditions. What is more,
a range of protection features prevent damage if things get too
tough even for the SP. It is no wonder that you find SP solutions
in the toughest environments e.g. mines and offshore industries
worldwide.

The future

We are ready

Parallel Pumps

Where the future will take us regarding cooling in wind turbines we do not know. But with the
increase in size of the turbines there is no doubt that the need for cooling will also increase. And the
reliability of the systems will become bigger and bigger because it will cost more and more if the
turbine stops. These things are pointing more and more in the direction of double pump solutions
running in duty/standby or duty/assist. Especially the duty/assist function is interesting, because it
could very often be relevant to size maybe two 75% pumps in parallel or three 50% pumps in parallel,
all depending on your control strategy, your operation pattern and so on. Because how often does
your turbine actually run full load? An example of a booster set could be as shown above.
Other solutions that could be relevant in the future, could be sea water cooling of offshore turbines
and maybe also compressor technology with a cooling refrigerant. In both instances Grundfos has the
know-how, experience and products that could help. Some of the advantages of these two systems
could be:

Seawater cooling:

Always enough cooling capacity.

Space savings in the nacelle because you would not need the big air/glycol heat exchanger.
You could build up the system as a standard commercial building cooling system.

Compressor technology.

Space saving because you can make the heat exchanger around 50% smaller with a refrigerant
compared to air.
Always enough cooling capacity no matter the size of turbine.

Fire pump systems

We design and build systems ranging from simple pump-driver systems on a base frame to highly
engineered and fully enclosed, packaged systems. We are proud to have the widest range of fire
pump approvals and listings worldwide, and our expertise enables us to engineer, produce, stock,
distribute and service our products all over the world. There are three main reasons for choosing fire
pumps that are approved and certified by accredited third party authorities. Firstly, based on the massive experience embodied in leading fire protection, regulations and codes, approved systems reduce the
risk of harm to life and damage to property in the case of fire. Secondly, approved systems provide maximum reliability and superior quality. Thirdly, using approved and listed fire pumps typically reduces insurance rates significantly. When third party approval is not required for a fire pump installation, Grundfos
can supply non-listed fire systems that comply with specific fire standards.
