Tacoma Rainiers (15-21) vs. Las Vegas 51s (24-12)

RHP Stephen Landazuri (0-0, -.--) vs. RHP Tyler Pill (1-0, 6.43)

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Salt Lakes offensive

outbursts in the fifth and sixth inning led to a 10-6
win in the four-game series finale. Tacoma starting
pitcher Mike Montgomery suffered the loss after
surrendering four runs on four hits and five walks
in 4.1 innings of work. Leury Bonilla went 3-for-5
with a home run, two runs scored, two RBI, and 2.0
innings of scoreless relief work on the mound. Ketel
Marte also contributed three hits, scoring one and
driving in another.
TONIGHTS STARTERS: Rainiers starting pitcher
Stephen Landazuri makes his Triple-A debut
tonight against the 51s. Landazuri posted a 4.61
ERA (14ERx27.1IP) in his six starts with Double-A
Jackson to open the season. His first start of the
year he went 6.0 innings, allowing just one hit and
no runs. He has held right-handed batters in the
Southern League to a .212 (11x52) batting average.
Las Vegas starting pitcher Tyler Pill makes his
seventh start of the year for the 51s, and his first
career start against Tacoma. Pill has found success
on the road, posting a 3.98 ERA (9ERx20.1IP) while
away, compared to a 12.91 ERA (11ERx7.2IP) at
home. In his last outing at El Paso on May 11, Pill
held the Chihuahuas to one run on three hits in 7.0
innings of work. In three of his six starts, Pill has
allowed four or more runs.
POWER DUO: Tacomas Ketel Marte and Jesus
Montero are first and second in the PCL in hits,
respectively. Martes .352 (51x145) batting average
is the second best in the league, while Monteros
.341 (47x138) batting average is the fourth best.
Their combined average of .346 (98x283) is over
100 points better than the remainder of the teams
combined batting average of .245 (234x957), and
their 36 combined RBI account for 22.6% of the
team total.
SALUTE TO ARMED FORCES DAY: Today, the
Tacoma Rainiers honor all of those who have
served, or are currently serving in the United States
Armed Forces. Speciality jerseys worn by players
and coaches during tonights game will be sold
during a silent auction on the main concourse, with
proceeds going to USO Northwest.

BLINK AND YOULL MISS IT: Tacoma and Las

Vegas lead the league in stolen bases - the Rainiers
have tallied 48, the 51s have notched 47. The next
closest team is Iowa, with 37 swipes. Tacoma base
runners have grabbed steals with a 74.4% success
rate, while Las Vegas players have stolen with
74.6% success.
Ketel Marte is currently on pace for 53 stolen bases
this year, which would be the second most in a
single season in team history - it would also give
Marte 59 career stolen bases with Tacoma, which
would rank eighth on the franchise all-time stolen
base list. As a team, the Rainiers are on pace for
196 stolen bases, which would be nearly double last
seasons total of 107 - through 108 fewer games,
the Rainiers already have 44.9% of last years stolen
base total.
LIVE AND DIE BY THE LONG BALL: Last night,
the Rainiers became the first team in the PCL to
surrender three grand slams. Tacoma gave up six
grand slams in 2014, and allowed their second of
the year on April 16 against Salt Lake.
The Tacoma lineup has combined to hit 34 home
runs this year, the fourth highest total in the league
- 29.5% of Tacomas runs this year have come via
home runs. On the other side, Rainiers pitchers
have surrendered a league-leading 39 home runs,
20 of which have come in Cheney Stadium. Forrest
Snow and Sam Gaviglio have each given up seven
home runs, tied for second most in the league.
STAYING ALIVE: The Rainiers have grounded into
a double play only 20 times in 35 games, the lowest
team total in the league. During 2014, Tacoma hit
into 141 double plays in 144 games.
WORK THE COUNT: As a team, Tacoma is hitting
.296 (81x274) when ahead in the count, compared
to just a .216 (80x368) average when falling behind
in the count. Only four home runs have come when
behind in the count.
