5 Best Practices for New Facebook Pages with Hootsuite
Facebook has been the common place for people to share photos, keep in touch
with friends, and discover new friends and events they may have not been exposed to just
walking around town. Mark Zuckerburg founded Facebook in February 2004 while
studying at Harvard University and within 24 hour, 1200 people had signed up, according
to Sarah Phillips of Guardian. Since then, Facebook has grown to be the social media site
that many people turn to share what they are doing or reconnecting with old friends.
Businesses have also caught on to the popularity of this site and have began using this to
connect to the masses in a different way from what they have in past.
Facebook has proven to be its one of the biggest contenders in the business world.
According to Chris Preimesberger, Faceooks mobile advertising business, exceeding
Wall Street projections, showing a 60% increase in revenues at the close of the 3rd quarter
in 2013 (Preimesberger). When the company went public in 2012, they faced some
backlash when the IPO did not do as well as projected but the company has come back
strong and is still a strong, growing company.
Facebook has gone through some changes since its inception in 2004. Forbes
magazine said that recent changes to the Facebook algorithm that will give a new and
improved News Feed that would give a balance of updates from friends, businesses, and
organizations (Chowdhry). This will help out businesses to get their products out more.

Small businesses use Facebook pages to reach indivuals who are most likely to be
interested in their company according to Kim Woodbridge (Woodbridge).

Hootsuite is a great presentation that gives the basics of how to start creating and
improving small businesses Facebook Page. It shows many key tips that allow better user
interactivity with their site and tricks to present your page even better. This also has
shown some of the new features that Facebook is offering that allows businesses to see
what others are saying about them in a single page along with the viewers to see what
their friends and others are saying about the business.
Not everyone is a fan of businesses using the social site to connect to its
customers. Elan Dekel wrote in Forbes that when they finally had people like their page,
those people could not see what they were posting (Dekel). This has cause many
companies to lose confidence in Facebook. Some frustrated business owners have cast
the decline as a bait and switch meant to force businesses, to buy ads to make their Pages
useful (Luckerson). Although this recent drawback have plagued the confidence for
some, more and more businesses are signing up to become active in the Facebook and the
Hootsuite presentation is the perfect way to learn tricks and how to get started in setting
up a Facebook Page for businesses.
