Mauree
Male
Female
It was mostly male who took the questionnaire which is not what I would predict, as I
thought that romantic comedy’s where more popular with the females than the males.
2.
How old are you?
10- under
11-16 yrs old
17-19 yrs old
20-26 yrs old
27+ yrs old
From the results shown above it is clear that from the most common people who took my
questionnaire were aged between 11-16. this suggest that either the people that took my
questionnaire online where from school of that romantic comedies are more appealing to
that age group.
3.
yes
no
sometimes
always
hardly
The pie chart above shows that ever participant has watched and do continue to watch
romantic comedies. This can be proven as the number for ‘hardly’ was naught. This
shows that romantic comedies are a well watched movie genre.
4.
What helps to show a film is a romantic
comedy?
music
characters
settings
other
It is mostly the characters that help the audience to identify the movie genre. This may be
as the way the character is dressed or portrayed, or both. It also seems that music and
setting plays a significant part. For example if the music is heavy and daunting you would
associate it with a romantic comedy but if it was light and playful music you’re most
likely to. Setting is also very important as if the movie is set in a ware house rather than a
restaurant you wouldn’t make the link to a romantic comedy. As you may be aware that
one person ticked the other box, but failed to identify why.
This was an open questions and there are the answers I received.
1. A guy and a girl, who like each other but have different partners, but in the end fall in love anyway.
Teens at school, Co-workers, Strangers that meet coincidentally, Two people who are both likeable but
2.
very different, Divorcees or widowed people
3. school/univercity students
5. couples
8. gwen latex
11.
Funny one fat one couple and hot one
male
13.
female
16. Geeky male who wants out of league sociolite female in opposite cliques
There is a common trend with the answers that lead me to believe that there is always one
male and female lead, usually a big name actor and two people who are very different
and somehow get along with each other perfectly.
6.
What is the best set out for romantic
comedies from beginging to end?
intro of characters
relationship turning
point
happy ever after
others please
specifyy
This pie chart suggest that the best set out is a relationship turning point and people enjoy
watching drama in the knowledge that it will be a happy ever after. There was one
participant who answered ‘others please specify’. They gave this answer ‘I think that the
intro could come after the break up is portrayed at the beggining of the piece’.
7.
Do you prefere to follow from the male
or female point of veiw in a romantic
comedy?
male
female
both
These results show that the audience are not fussed by the gender of the main character
and find it easy to relate to both genders.
What background are the characters
8. most commonly from?
working class
middle class
upper class
variables
There is a great variety of answers from the participants. This suggests there are a lot of
different audience who find it easier to relate of find it more entertaining to watch
characters from different background to theirs, or from the same background.
bisexual
hetrosexual
homosexual
doesn’t matter
The most common preference of sexual orientation in the movie is heterosexual (1 male
and 1 female) this may imply that the genre is most commonly watched by heterosexual
so they would find it easier to relate to that type of characters in the movie. And numbers
of people don’t mind what the sexual orientation of the characters are as long its
entertaining.
10. Do you prefer the comedy and or emotion to be delivered sub textually, E.g. Not
literally stated in lines but in silences instead. Or prefer verbal comedy please
explain your answers
This was an open question, these are the replies I was given.
Subtextualy as it allows the audience to read between the lines and get a more rounded picture of the
1.
whole movie although they might already know what is going to happen.
I enjoy verbal comedy, I think clever writing and delivery can be hilarious, however sometimes a funny
thing is so obvious, it being said aloud would ruin the effect, and make the film seemed dumbed down
2.
and as though the audience needs things explained to them. Overall though I prefer verbal comedy, if
thought out properly to be funny and something the audience can identify with perhaps.
yeah, when its not literally stated in the lines. I think it makes me understand it more when its not
3. obvious, it shows the feeling more i think, and it makes me relate to my own love life and how it all works
out in the end helps me :)
5. Its better when the emotion and comedy is not suppose to be funny or sad but i makes you laugh or cry.
7. SAY NAY
i like al of them but the emotion to be delivered subtextually makes you feel the way the characters feel
11.
more so thats the best one i guess
I prefer my emotion and comedy to be delivered sub textually becuase then it gets me really think about

the movie.
15. I personaly feel both compliment eachother perfectly to create great comic moments
Its is clearly shown that people enjoy feeling emotion when watching a movie; they enjoy
crying just as much as laughing. An emotion helps the audience to relate to the characters
a lot more, as in the audience’s personal experiences and may help out their problems.
