The purpose of this method statement is to describe the activites and

documentation required for constructing dowel bar as the fixed point for
bridges.

Dowel Bar

Reference :

Surveyor will determine alignment level and intervals of the dowel bar accurately
according to site condition and construction drawing for approval by the S.O.

Setting out and control pegs of the dowel bar shall be installed on site according to
shop drawing after approval by S.O.
Where to determine fix point, the site supervisor shall hacked or drill the existing
structure in to find out if the structures is either joint or not and shall be witness by
S.O. representatives for confirmation. If the abutment is joint with the beam than the
structure will be fix joint..
The dowel bar shall be installed as specified in clause 13.2.7.6 in JKR/SPJ/1988.

The dowel bar shall be protected against corrosion by zink galvanisation coating
according to construction drawing or as and this material shall be used after
approval by S.O.
Before installed dowel bar, the existing structure shall be hacked or by any suitable
equipment to hacked a holes onto an existing structure according to construction
drawing or as directed by the S.O.
The holes shall all be thoroughly cleaned out, free from dust, mud or other debris and
deleterious matter by using appropriae tools and equipment.
Dowel bar shall fill the holes in the existing structure according to construction
drawing and an epoxy grout shall filled into it according to construction as a grip
mechanism.

SAFETY REQUIREMENT & ENVIRONMENT

11.1

Safe Working Practices

Only experienced personnel are allowed at working area.
Site personnel must be briefed and be well versed with all site
safety measures.
Site personnel 'must be in proper safety working attire e.g. Safety
boots and helmets must be worn at all times.
Site safety member should be available at all times and must be
able to respond correctly to emergency.
Proper and adequate provisions of Temporary Signage and
Barricades at diversions and haul roads as necessary.
Every machinery that can carry material such as crane must have
PMA and it is need to be attached with the document to be submit
to consultant

The site supervisor is responsible for the adherence to Health and Safety
requirements on site
H&S Supervisor will perform reviews of the adherence to the H&S matters during the
works
11.2

Working at night
Being aware of surroundings at all times.
Wearing high visibility apparel.
Arranging good work area lighting
Setting up proper trafic controls.
Standing supervision by site supervisor

11.3

Environment Protection works

Awareness to existing stucture to be demolished
Confine the demolition within site, control dust and noise pollution arising from the
work activity.
Temporary earth drain shall be channeling to the existing drain to make a proper
flow for surface runoff.
Control activities to within the areas (zoning and scheduling) to avoid unnecessary
prolonged exposure, to decrease siltation in water course and/ or dust in dry
condition.

Provide sufficient temporary earth drain where necessary to avoid waterponding.

Provide timber mattress as working platform to avoid
machinery sinking for soft ground area.
Environment officer will perform reviews of the adherence to the environment
matters during the works
The site supervisor is responsible for the adherence to environment requirements on
site
