DEGREES OF COMPARISON

Definition, Function & Form

Degrees of Comparison is a djective (adjective) used in order

to claim levelcomparison.

Its function is to compare the object with its properties.

There are 3 forms of Degrees of Comparison (Equal Degree, Degree

Comparative and Superlative Degree)

Equality Comparison

E quality comparison is one comparison used in order

to claim that one object or person in the state the same or


other equivalent. Structure sentence this be formed with put the adjective in
between twoaxles.

There are two types of equality comparison:

P ositive degree

Negative degree

Adjective its m emiliki shape standard without change: big, carefully,

difficult,, easy, rich, etc


S + to be + as + Adjective + as + Object
S + to be + not + as / so + Adjective + as + Object
Example:

He drives as careful as my father in the residential area.

(He was driving as carefully as my father in a residential neighborhood)

The task is not as difficult, as you imagine. (Adjective)


(This task is not as difficult as you might think)

Comparative Degree

Comparative Degree (Level More) is used in order

to claim that state one object or person more of others.

Add To suffix "er" to adjectives short (generally consist of

the single or two tribe words), merge withthe word "than".

In Order To word trait adjectives more long (over of

the two tribe word) generally preceded with the word "more" before word nature,
then followed with the word "than".

S + to be + Comparative Adjective (er / more) + than + O

Specification:
1. The adjectives that end in the letter -e converted into comparative by
adding -r.
Example:
* Brave: bold braver: bolder
* Large: larger wide: broader

2. The adjective which consists of one syllable and ends in a consonant can
be converted into a comparative by adding -er
* Hard: hard harder: harder
* High: high higher: higher

3. adjectives ending in consonant after the vowel sounds can be converted

into a comparative by doubling the consonant and then add -er.


* Big: big bigger: bigger
* Fat: fat fatter: fatter
4. The adjectives that end in the letter y after a consonant can be converted into
a comparative by replacing letters with letters -y -i then add -er.
* Crazy: crazy crazier: more crazy
* Easy: easy Easier: easier

5.Kata properties ending in the letter r, -er, -LE, -ow can be converted into a
comparative by adding -er.
* Clever: clever cleverer: smarter
* Shallow: shallow shallower: more shallow
6. adjective consisting of three syllables or more can be converted into
comparative by adding more.
* Beautiful: beautiful more beautiful: more beautiful
* Delicious: good more delicious: better
* Difficult,: hard more difficult,: more difficult

7. Some comparative adjective converted into an irregular pattern.


* Good: nice better: better
* Bad: bad worse: worse
* Little: a little less: less
* Much: many more: more
* Far: far farther / further: further

Example:

She is more beautiful than her mother. (He (pr) more beautiful of

the at the his mother.)

Her hair is better than mine. (Hair better than the hair)

The pattern of use of the ... the ... also reflects Comparative, for example:

The sooner, the better (lower is better)

The more dangerous it is, the more I like it (more dangerous, the

more I like it)

Superlative Degree

Superlative Degree (Top Level) is used in order

to claim that one object or the (single) is the most orter ... than other (plural).

Add To suffix "est" on adjective sentences

are short (usually consisting of the single or two tribe word).


Preface with word article "the".

In Order To word properties (adjectives) more long (over of

to be + Superlative Adjective (the most / est)

Specification:

1. The adjectives that end in the letter -e converted into a superlative by adding
-st.
Example:
* Brave: bold bravest: the bravest
* Large: Largest wide: the most widely

2. The adjective which consists of one syllable and ends in a consonant can be
converted into a superlative by adding -est
* Hard: hard hardest: the loudest
* High: highest height: the highest
3. adjectives ending in consonant after the vowel sounds can be converted into a
superlative by doubling the consonant and then add -est.
* Big: big biggest: the greatest
* Fat: fat fattest: the fattest
4. The adjectives that end in the letter y after a consonant can be converted into
a superlative by replacing letters with letters -y -i then added -est.
* Crazy: crazy craziest: the craziest
* Easy: easy easiest: the easiest

superlative by adding -est.

superlative to add most.

* Bad: bad worst: worst
* Little: a little least: at least
* Much: many most: at most
* Far: far farthest / furthest: the most distant

Example:

He is the laziest boy in his office (he is the laziest person in the office)
This is the most expensive car (this is the most expensive cars)
Her acting is the best Among others (most good acting among others)
