PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE GUIDE

2GJA600065 (E) / rev. 2 / 12.2004

Type PASS M00

ABB

The operational safety of the PASS M00 main components CB, DS, ES, CT, is not affected by any
external impact (such as dirt , humidity etc.) with the exception of the bushings.
On the module we use bushings with an internal cylinder in glass fiber impregnated in epoxy resin,
keeping outside vanes melded on the cylinder: therefore we have a product qualified for use in
polluted environment and in presence of rain .
So our PASS M00 module requires virtually no maintenance for a long time.
The prescribed activities are :
a) periodical inspections
b) preventive maintenance
c) revision
On the attached table (Tab 1) is scheduled an overall view of the activities and the duration for annual
activity.
On instructions chapter are descripted all the activities in detail.
a) Periodical inspection
Functional and visual inspection are carried out without open the gas compartments.
Every one/two years we advise for a visual inspection (with the module in service) :
bushings
check of SF6 density device and relevant indication
recording the number of circuit breaker operations
tightness of LCC doors gaskets
general check of the components : position indicators, connectors , cables , equipotential
connections , earthing circuit . None of the auxiliary equipment must be worn or
overheated and must be no vibration on the relays.
At the end of the first year we advise to retighten screw joints related to anchor bolts and
earthing connection and check the absence of corrosion or deterioration of components.
b) Preventive Maintenance
The preventive Maintenance activities of the PASS M00 is carried out with the module out of
service.
It is performed reaching one of the following conditions:
*) after 5000 mechanical operations
*) when the number of short-circuits is approaching the listed values:
n[number of operations]
I [kA] short-circuit current

We advise for:
check of alarms, trips blocks and check of pressure gauge condition
check of humidity level in the SF6 compartments
check and lubrication of disconnecting switch drives mechanism and inspection of tightness of
covers gaskets
check and lubrication of circuit breaker drive mechanism and inspection of tightness of covers
gaskets
repetition of commissioning mechanical test
visual inspection of contacts and CB chamber condition
check of contact resistance of main circuit
absence of corrosion or deterioration of components
check and retighten screw joints
c) Revision
The revision of the PASS M00 is carried out with the module out of service.
It is performed reaching one of the following conditions:
*) after 10000 mechanical operations
*) after 30 year of service.
*) when the number of short-circuits is approaching the above mentioned values
The general revision foresees at 30TH year is carried out with the replacement of PASS
module with one previously reconditioned in order to reduce the outage time

Instructions
Make pression go up and down to check the alarm
trip and blocks function. Compare the pression gauge
sample with the module pression gauge. Taking into
account that sample device is not compensated it must
be converted with ambient temperature. Disassemble
the density monitor unscrewing the 4 screws and
disconnect the plug connector and connect with
special tool the density monitor out going to SF6
bottle
Connect the hygrometer to Dilo Valve, check and
record the humidity value. See also FD217
Open the cover of DS Drive box and lubricate
necessary
Open the cover of CB Driver box and lubricate
necessary
Repeat the times measurement
Disassemble internal part of pole enclosure and
disassemble CB chamber looking at contacts
condition
Following the instruction of standard IEC 694 (IEC
62271-1):
Injection of test current > 100 A
The measured resistance shall not exceed the
resistance value measured in factory during routine
test.
This reference value is reported on test report
External visual check. Anti-rust painting if needed
Check the screw joints and retighten if necessary

Instructions
Complete module revision and substitution or worn
parts

Note 1: all tools mentioned are not supplied, customer must provide them.
Note 2: where ABB personnel is indicated we suggest that maintenance is made by our service division.
