applymyunderstandingofchildandadolescentdevelopmentalresearch
withregardstoadolescentbipolardiagnosis.TowardstheendofthereportI
willofferrecommendationsonhowpersoncenteredtherapycanhelpsolve
adolescentissues.
Secondly,otherissuesthatareguidingthedirectionofmyresearcharethe
hottopicswithintheGeneralPsychologicalcommunity.Thedownturnof
theeconomyhasresultedinpovertyinmanyfamilies.Accordingto
research,thereareoneoutoffiveyoungpeople(andthisisapproximately
16.4millionchildren)arenowapartoffamiliesthathavefallenintothe
lowersocioeconomiclevelsbeloweventhatoffederalpovertylevels(Lee,
Andrew,Gebremariam,Lumeng,&Lee,2014)Thisisonlybutone
epidemicthathastriggeredhigherandmorevisiblewavesofdiagnosisof

mentalandmooddisorderssuchasanxiety,bipolardisorder,and
depression.Researchstatesthatanxietyisamidstotherpsychiatricdisorders,
yetholdsitselfasthesuccessor(Chu,Skriner,Zandberg,2013)ofits
psychosocialorpanicdisorders.So,whilethesefactorswerenotmyprimary
concerns;Ihavecomeacrossthemduringresearchandtheycannotbe
ignored.
Samplingandrecruitingadolescentparticipants:
Ialreadyimaginetherecruitmentprocesstobeacollaborativeeffort
betweentheparentsandyouth.So,theseareafewoftheconsiderationsthat
havebeenbrainstormed,butthesefactorsarenotthelimits.Iwillhaveto
considertheworkhoursoftheparentsandschoolscheduleoftheyouthwho
aretobeinvolved.Iwillhavetolistavailabilityandarrangeschedules
accordingly.Thelocationsofthefamilieswillbekeyalso.Ihaveconsidered
factorssuchashigherandlowersocioeconomiclocationswherefamilies
mayreside.Thelocationoftestingisafactoraswellbecausewhetheritbea
school,daycarecenter,recreationalcenter,etc.;Imustensurethatthe
familiesarecomfortablethere.
ReportingMyFindings
Itisparamountthatkeepfamiliesinformedfromthebeginningofthe
processtotheend.Reportingisgreatimportanceandadequatedescription
ofinformationabouttheresearchmustbevalidandconsistentwiththe
reportstoscale(Guinee, 2000).Thebeginningwillentailashortpacket
containingnomorethan23pagesorapamphletthatwilloutlinethedetails
oftheresearch.
Parentswillhavetheoptionofsittingintheverynextroomfromthe
researchroom,inordertopreventdistractingtheparticipatingadolescents.
Allresearchmaterialswillbemaintainedanddated,foreachparticipantwill
havetheirownfile,folderandboxofmaterials.Materialstobeusedcan
rangefromclay,markers,recordedaudio,journalsandhandwrittennotes
outliningeachsession.
Aftertheresearchhasconcluded,theparentswillreceivecopiesoftheir
childrenswork.Dependinguponthereleasethathasbeensigned,thenthis

informationwillalsobeshardwithanyclinicalstaffthattheyouthare
currentlyworkingwith.Finally,thefullprocesswillbepreparedfor
documentation,editingandpublishing.
