a team of competent, experienced

managers and as a result, the brands
products and services generate customer
satisfaction. Its body of staff is regularly
trained and all follow the innovations and
developments of science; adhering to
the latest technologies. The aggregates,
concrete and asphalt mix markets are
strong and demand is increasing daily.
Quality is sought after and Hellenic
Quarries excels within the confines
of private projects; its workmanship
securing its stance as a market leader.
Following new construction and
project maintenance company openings,
Aktor became the majority shareholder
of Hellenic Quarries after recognising
this increasing demand for aggregates,
concrete and asphalt mixes. Quality is
required in private projects and Hellenic
Quarries was able to supply this. Aktor
currently owns, manages and operates a
range of aggregate production facilities
in many Greek regions including Achaia,
Ioannina, Larissa, Magnesia, Fhiotida,
and Veria. It is also planning to expand

As Aktor expands, it plans to continue
its dedication to social responsibility.
The brand is committed to fulfilling
its obligation to the environment and

respectful of natural resources. It has

formed a strategy for long-term social
responsibility and complies with the
national and European environmental
legislative requirements. Implementing
an Environmental Management System,
which is ISO 14001:2004 (environmental

Health, safety and

certification
Following on from its commitment
to environmental safety, Aktor also
regards workplace health and safety
as imperative. Its employees drive
the company, thus their wellbeing
is extremely important and Aktors

corporate business policy specifies this. It

has achieved the OHSAS 18001 (health
and safety management) certificate;
all health and safety monitoring and
assessments are established under this
standard. Since being out in place, the
management system has greatly reduced
injuries, accidents and occupational
diseases. In the light of successfully
reducing risks, Aktor is also in the
process of achieving the 1801-OHSAS
18001 (system of hygiene and safety)
certificate, according to ELOT (Hellenic
Organisation for Standardisation).
Aktors subsidiary, Hellenic Quarries
has also been awarded with a number of
certificates, including the ISO 9001:2000
(quality management system) certificate.
The company also certifies its products
with EC labelling to signify production

30 percent drop in sales and production.
To overcome this dip, Hellenic Quarries
expanded into the Balkans and Europe,
whilst also promoting its products for
use in other industries such as forages,
fertilisers and cosmetics. The company
has previously adapted to change well,
evidenced in Aktors takeover, and is
a versatile brand, therefore there is no
doubt that Hellenic Quarries will continue
to be successful in a host of new
markets. Aktors influence will no doubt
aid international expansion and together
will attract an increase in custom and a
rise in turnover. l

of certificates is a signifier that Hellenic
Quarries both operates and produces
good quality products and adheres
to strict safety guidelines. It does so
to ensure that its customers, largely
construction companies working in
both the private and public sectors, are
satisfied with Hellenic Quarries products.
The brand also holds subcontracts with
influential mining companies including
Hellas Gold SA and S & B Industrial
Minerals SA, for underground exertion
such as excavating galleries and mine

In addition to mining subcontracts,
Hellenic Quarries also shares
