PORT CLINTON YACHT CLUB

Jib Sheet
June 2015

From the Commodore

Summer is here!
May was kind enough
with warm dry days
to get the Club
grounds looking awesome! Special thanks
to RC Dave Obergefell, Caretaker Eric,
Fred Pachasa and
Gloria Denos for their
extra effort. The place
looks really good!
SAFETY FIRST! The
pool is scheduled to
open Saturday May
23rd so please SLOW
down and keep a
close look-out for the
kids and of course
fellow members.

The third annual

PCYC Golf Scramble
held on Friday May
15th was a huge suc-

cess again this year.

Special thanks to
Mike & Shari Beier
and Greg & Renee
Morris for doing an
outstanding job coordinating this event
again. First place
went to Steve Alexanders team, second
place went to John
Lauers team, third
place went to the
Commodores team
and squeaking in at
fourth place was
Mike Beiers team.
We had a total of 17
teams, over 192 people at the dinner and

the Gatlins put on a

fine show.
The Planning Committee is progressing

nicely on the pool

project. They are engaged with three pool
contractors finalizing
bidding and design
proposals for the club
pool. Planning Committee Chairman PC
John Bolte will provide an update at the
June 4th membership
meeting. At this time
announcing a date
for a membership
vote is pending a few
details. It is the intention of the Board
to provide the membership a mailing notice 30 days in advance so all that are
interested in making
the meeting can plan
accordingly. These
are exciting times for
our Club so I encourage you to participate
in the process as we
move forward.
The Flower Committee is looking for additional volunteers. If
you have some free
time and want to help
out, please approach
any Flag or Board
member and we will

put you in touch

with the right person.
Your fellow club
members will be
hosting 10 different social events
this month. From
Friday Night
Snacks to Poolside
Socials and of
course the ever
popular Bloody
Mary Socials every
Saturday on the
deck. Come out
and have some
fun with friends
and fellow members as we kick off
summer.
Thats all for now
and I look forward
to seeing you
around the Club!

The Rear Perspective, Dave Obergefell

Summer has arrived and the
yacht club facilities are fully
commissioned due to the
great work of the staff and
volunteer members who
make this all possible. The
pool is open, beaches are
clean, grounds look great,
flowers all planted, north
shore heads commissioned,
hoists rebuilt, pump out
ready, etc. I cannot thank
all of you who made this
huge task come together so
efficiently. If you get a
chance please thank PC
John Bolte for his unending
work pulling together the
new pool project. Also
thank Eric, Chuck, and Ted
for their efforts to get the
club up and running after a
long hard winter! Please
also thank Gloria (Glo)
Denos who spends hours on
the mower each week totally
as a volunteer. A simple
thanks goes a long way.
There is still a list of jobs to
be done from simple small

...come forward and

volunteer for an hour

paint projects to pressure

washing and many others. I
hope you will come forward
and volunteer for an hour or
a few. We are very interested
to find help with the daily
pool cleaning, which is simple work and only takes
about one hour per day. If
you would like to take a certain day or days of the week,
or just volunteer for a short
period please let Chuck,
Eric, or me know. Eric will
be happy to show you what
needs to be done and it will
free him up for other matters around the club.
For the boaters, when you
leave the club for the week,
please leave only your dock
box, flower pot, and grill in
front of your boat. Please do
not leave umbrellas, chairs,
coolers, bikes, dingy,
etc. Push your power cords
and hoses to the edge of the
break wall. If you grill is
not on patio blocks, roll it
on the blacktop in front of
your dock box. These things
make mowing a nightmare. If you leave for a
night or longer please let
Eric know so he can rent
your dock, which helps us
to keep our dock fees
down. Take the time to read
the dock rules as all of this
is covered. I believe we have
some abandoned dock boxes
around the club and we will

begin to round them up after trying to understand who

they might belong to. If we
make a mistake and take
yours, please let Eric know
as we will not dispose any
until we are certain.
On a final personal note, I
am embarrassed to admit
even after 28 years of membership, I do not know some
of you, especially the newer
members. Please introduce
yourself when you see me
around. Enjoy your club
this summer. As always
please let Chuck, Eric, or
me know if you have suggestions. The club belongs to
each member equally and
we want you to be heard.

Fleet Captain of Power

The first Cruise-Out of the year
was supposed to be to PIB,
however the weather did not
cooperate. I am hoping for
much better weather as we get
into the heart of the boating
season. Due to a conflict, the
power fleet will be heading to
Kelley's Island the weekend
of June 19th-21st instead of
Sandusky Yacht Club.. We
will be staying at Portside
Marina, which is in the
heart of everything on Kelley's Island. I have made

arrangements with Portside

Marina for our group. A
sign-up sheet for this event
is now at the bar. Each
boat will need to contact the
marina directly to make a
reservation as they are looking for specific boat information. Please get with them
ASAP so that they can make
arrangements to put us as
close together as possible. The number for Portside Marina is (419)7462668 and the group name is

Port Clinton Yacht Club. The

Bickleys have been kind
enough to open up their home
for our "Bloody Mary" Party on
Saturday morning. Last year
that was the highlight of the
trip as we all had a great
time. Please join us for this
weekend. There will be
more information to follow
for those that sign up. See
me with any questions.
Happy boating,
RJ Basil

older Optimist Prams. These

are older boats but all are in
good condition. They are the
older generation with sealed
air tanks and oar locks.
They would make great dinghies and have sailing rigs
available. If you are interested they are lined up in
the dry storage area. Look
them over and give me a
call. We are offering these
boats to Club Members first
before selling them to other
clubs. Call me if you are interested.

are on the Club Website.
