AnaccountofSaeedbinJubair,whoisafamous
Tabie.TheProphet(PBUH)hassaid:
"Touttertruthinthefaceofatyrantisthe
bestJihad."
ThisisastoryofJihadofthattype.Atthattime,
HajjajbinYusuf,thenotoriousbloodshedderwasin
power.Hajjaj'sharshnessandtyrannyarewell
knowninhumanhistory.Therulesinthosedays,in
spiteoftheirshortcomings,neverlaggedbehindin
propagatingthefaith,yetwetreatthemastheworst
amongrulesbecauseofthecontrastwiththejust
andGodfearingrulers.Hewastheviceroyofking
AbdulMalikbinMarwanforHijazandIraq.Theking
livedinDamascusandHajjajhadhisheadquartersat
Koofah.SaeedbinJubairhadfoughtagainstHajjaj
onthesideofIbnulAshath.Afterthedefeat,Saeed
(Rahmatullahalaih)ranawayandtookasylumin
Mecca.TheGovernmentpostedaverysternperson
astheGovernorofMecca,withinstructionstoarrest
Saeed.TheGovernorassembledallthepeopleof
MeccaandreadbeforethemtheorderofKingAbdul
Malik,whichsaid:
"AnypersonwhogivessheltertoSaeed
(Rahmatullahalaih)shallmeetthesamefate
asSaeedhimself."
Hethenannouncedtothepeople:
"ByAllah,Imustkillthepersonwhogives
sheltertoSaeed(Rahmatullahalaih).Hisand
hisneighbors'housesshallberazedtothe
ground."
Saeedwasarrestedwithgreatdifficultyandsentto
Koofah.WhenhewasbroughtbeforeHajjaj,the
followingconversationtookplace:
Hajjaj:"Whatisyourname?"
Saeed:"MynameisSaeed(lit.Auspicious)."
Hajjaj:"Whatisyourfather'sname?"
Saeed:"Jubair(lit.Trimmed)."

Hajjaj:"WhatisyourbeliefabouttheProphet
(SAW)?"
Saeed:"HewasanapostleofMercyandaProphet
ofAllah,sentwiththebestGuidanceforthewhole
creation."
Hajjaj:"WhatdoyousayabouttheKhalifas?"
Saeed:"Iamnotawarderoverthem.Everybodyis
responsibleforhisownactions."
Hajjaj:"Whoisthemostexaltedofthefour
Khalifahs?"
Saeed:"TheonewhohadbeenabletopleaseAllah
morethantherest?"
Hajjaj:"Whichofthemhadbeenabletoplease
Allah?"
Saeed:"ThisisknownonlytoHim.Whoknowswhat
ishiddeninthebosomsandwhatthehearts
conceal."
Hajjaj:"IsAliinParadiseorinHell?"
Saeed:"IcanansweronlyafterIvisitthetwoplaces
andmeettheirdwellers."
Hajjaj:"HowshallIfareontheDayofJudgment?"
Saeed:"Iamnotfittoreceivetheknowledgeofthe
unseen?"
Hajjaj:"Youdonotintendtotellmethetruth."
Saeed:"ButIdidnottellalieeither."

Saeed:"Idonotseeanythingtolaughatand
indeedwhyshouldonelaugh,whoiscreatedfrom
dust,whohastoappearontheDayofJudgment,and
isalwayssurroundedbytribulations."
Hajjaj:"ButIdolaugh."
Saeed:"Allahhascreateduswithdifferent
temperaments."
Hajjaj:"Iamnowgoingtokillyou."
Saeed:"Thetimeandmannerofmydeathhave
alreadybeendecreed."
Hajjaj:"Allahhaspreferredmetoyou."
Saeed:"Nobodycanbeproudofhisrelationwith
Allah,unlessheknowshispositionandAllahisthe
onlyknoweroftheunseen."
Hajjaj:"WhyshouldInotbeproudofmyrelation
withAllah,whenIamwiththeAmirulMomininand
youarewiththerebels?"
Saeed:"IamwiththeotherMuslims.Imyselfshun
mischief,butnobodycanchangethedecreeofAllah."
Hajjaj:"Whatdoyousayaboutwhatwecollectfor
AmirulMominin?"
Saeed:"Idonotknowwhatyoucollectforhim."
Hajjajsentforgold,silveranddressesfromthe
treasuryandshowedthesetoSaeed.
Saeed:"Theseareuseful,providedyouareableto
obtainwiththemthethingsthatmayprovideyou
peaceontheDayofConsternation(i.e.Dayof
Judgment),wheneverynursingmotherwillforget
hernursing,andeverypregnantonewillbedelivered
ofherburden,andwhennothingbutgoodwillbeof
anyavail."
Hajjaj:"Areourcollectionsnotgood?"
Saeed:"Youhavecollectedthem,andyouarethe
bestjudge."
Hajjaj:"Doyoulikeanyofthesethingsfor
yourself?"
Saeed:"IonlylikethethingswhichAllahlikes."
Hajjaj:"Woetoyou!"
Saeed:"Woeisforthepersonwhoisdeprivedof

back.
Hajjaj:"Whatmadeyoulaugh?"
Saeed:"YourboldnesswithAllah,andHisclemency
toyou."
Hajjaj:"Iamkillingapersonwhohascaused
dissentamongtheMuslims."(TotheExecutioner)
"Killhiminfrontofme."
Saeed:"LetmesaymySalatoftworakaats."
AfterfinishingSalat,hefacedQiblahandrecited:
"Verily,Ihaveturnedmyfacetoward
Him.Whocreatedtheheavensand
earth,asonebynatureupright,andI
amnotoftheidolaters."
Hajjaj:"TurnhimfromourQiblahandlethimface
theQiblahoftheChristians,whoalsocaused
dissensionanddisputeamongtheircommunity."
Hisfaceimmediatelyturnedtotheotherdirection.
Saeed:"WhithersoeverYeturn,thereisAllah's
Face.ForAllahisAllEmbracing,AllKnowing."
(Quran2:115)
Hajjaj:"Makehimlieonhisface.Weareonly
responsibleforappearance."
Saeedwasmadetolieonhisface.
Saeed:"Fromthe(earth)didWecreateyou,
andintoitshallWereturnyou,andfromit
shallWebringyououtonceagain."(Quran
20:55)
Hajjaj:"Killhim!!"
Saeed:"IcallyoutowitnesswhatIrecite:"Ibear
witnessthatthereisnogodexceptAllah,whoisall

Aftertheexecution,toomuchbloodcameoutfrom
Saeed'sbody.Hajjajhimselfmarveledgreatlyatit.
Heinquiredthereasonfromhisdoctors,whosaid:
"Histranquilityandcomposureatthetimeofdeath
hadkepthisbloodinitsoriginalform.Generally,
peopletobeexecutedaresomuchscaredandafraid
ofdeaththattheirbloodcurdlesanddoesnotflow
profusely."
