One last thank you to all who helped with our Sunday School
program in the 2014-2015 session. It was a good year and we could
not have done it without you. Heres hoping we have another
great year and we can find teachers to educate our children. Its
never too soon to sign up to help!!
Despite the rain, our last day of Sunday School was a blast!
Thanks to our teachers and our fantastic helpers Ian, John,
Kaleb, Lexi, Taylah, and Teigen. We especially enjoyed playing
Dangling Donuts, white faces and all!

Our next event will be Vacation Bible School which will be held
Sunday, August 2nd through Thursday, August 6th from 5 to 8 pm
at Peace Lutheran Church.
In the next month there will be registration forms sent out, along
with signup sheets for helping and items to donate or lend. Please
consider helping in any way you can financially or by volunteering.

On May 3, a congregational vote to resurface the parking lot at Peace

Lutheran was passed by an 86% margin.
After lasting nearly 40 years (twice as long as expected), the surface
has become so thin and cracked that replacement was the only
solution. It should be noted that one of the main reasons for the
extended life of the blacktop has been the excellent maintenance and
snow removal, which have been a hallmark of Peace Church. The
existing blacktop has had several repairs including sealant, pothole
and oil treatment, all which have been helpful in extending the life of
the pavement.
The fundraising for the $68,000 project has progressed quite well since
its beginning on May 3. The fund raising got off to a good start with
nearly a $15,000 donation. Weekly progress is listed below:

One last push to get us to the needed $68,000 so that we can sign the
contract to guarantee the completed project this summer. We have
seen the resurfacing costs increase each year since getting estimates
back in the late 1990's. Therefore, we would like to get the contract
signed to guarantee the current estimate. If you have already donated,
thank you. If not, we would ask you to please complete the pledge
form and get it in as soon as possible so we can move this project to
completion.
The parking lot committee of Lee Ronhovde, Tom Perry, Jeff Dreier
and Leon Johnson are very pleased with and grateful for your progress
toward the $68,000 goal.

Get Involved

we will end poverty, injustice and suffering.

Personal Care Kits

When LWR distributes Personal Care Kits, its often to people who have lost everything.
In the wake of an earthquake, or having fled from violence as their homes were overtaken,
they clasp a towel from a faraway place, with a bar of soap, a toothbrushand washing
up, they know that they have not been forsaken by the world.
The very simple gesture of giving a Personal Care Kit can give someone the
encouragement to start anew, starting with a bath. You can share Gods grace and love by
providing that simple comfort.

School Kits

Why school supplies? To the children who receive School Kits, these supplies mean the
difference between getting an education or not. Public school is usually free, but in the
places where LWR works, even a few required supplies, like pens and paper, may be more
than many families can afford. And when parents can only afford to send one of their
children to school, girls rarely get priorityyet the education level of mothers has the
biggest impact on development

Baby Care Kits

Baby Care Kit from LWR is like a promise. It says to that baby, Your needs will not be
neglected by this world. You matter to us. When you send Baby Care Kits, you provide
encouragement by welcoming these little ones into an international community that cares.
Baby Care Kits are distributed as part of emergency and relief efforts, to be sure, but they
are also given out as part of LWR health initiatives to encourage women to seek prenatal
care. One such initiative in Mali provided training for local prenatal health care workers,
who were given Baby Care Kits to distribute when they assisted with births. These kinds
of programs help more babies in rural, poor areas receive a healthy start in life. We hope
you will join us in this effort!

Fabric Kits

Teach a person to sew and youve given them tools they can use to earn an income,
support their family, and break out of poverty. Many of the thousands of Fabric Kits
Lutheran World Relief distributes are used in vocational training programs to teach young
men and women useful and marketable sewing skills.

ThriventLast time youth used Thrivent funds was 2012. Fits into what Thrivent is to be used
for. Motion by Jennifer to access $2240 of Thrivent funds, the amount budgeted for $40/youth/
day for expenses for Detroit Trip, for food cost. 2nd Leon. MCU There will be follow up at a later
date about establishing a separate account to manage those funds during the trip.
Immanuel Sing AlongA request has been made for the Immanuel Sing Along to be held at
Peace on Wednesday, August 19 with Mens Choir and Burnt Gravy and to serve refreshments.

Parking LotSet Up Fund. Leon presented a formal request by the Ronhovde family to use the
remainder of the Kip Peterson memorial for the Parking Lot Fund. Leon Johnson, Jeff Dreier,
Tom Perry and Lee Ronhovde have been exploring the costs. Three bids have been requested
from Mark Lee, Riley Brothers and Central Specialties. Initial input from contractors is that the
lot is too far gone to wait. The type of pavement was to have about a 15 year life span which has
been extended to 40 years with many patches made during that time. Discussion was held
regarding establishment of pledges as well as the possibility of a loan. Motion by Jan to bring the
matter to the congregation in a special meeting. Brenda 2nd. Motion carried.

Spring cleaningoverallCarpet Needs Cleaning per Terry VolkerWe will ask Terry for a date
for the Spring Cleaning and announce in church and bulletin. Approval granted for Terry to get
bids for carpet cleaning. Tom will contact Terry.
Don Berheim Scholarship ApplicationsApplications were sent out to two congregation Seniors.
Application deadline passed with no applicants.

Stewardship of the Good News

Theres

nothing like a breath of fresh air when it first

blows through a house thats been closed up all
winter, or the warmth of sunshine when youre used
to the darkness. Theres nothing like a word of
kindness when youve had a bad day or a gentle
challenge from a friend when youve lost your way.

Talk about a breath of fresh air! What an attitude

adjustment! And what a statement of hope in the
middle of a life that seems bleak.
What would it do to us to pray like this? When were
in the middle of the tough things of life, what would
happen if we turn to God in praise as we hope and
trust in him? I think more than our perspectives might
change.

Theres something about these glimpses of renewal

that make us pause and appreciate the things and
people in our lives. They can change our perspective, So in the final words of this psalm, Be strong and let
refresh our spirits, and give us strength to keep
your heart take courage, all you who hope in the
moving on days when we just cant go on. They make Lord.

the Psalms. Have you
ever noticed that most of
the Psalms that complain
usually end in praise and
thanksgiving? Its not because the persons problem
was magically solved while they were praying or
because their enemy has seen the light.
They respond in praise in the middle of their struggle,
because they have faith and hope in the God who
cares for them.
Take Psalm 31 for example written by David. (Psst,
go grab a Bible and read Psalm 31!) Hes in
distress, his eye is wasted away from grief, and is
like a broken vessel. Poor guy. And in the middle
of him being forgotten like a dead man, he says to
God, my times are in your hand and how great is
your goodness and blessed be the Lord.

WELCA News
WELCA will meet on Wednesday, June 3rd at 1:00pm.
Our guest Speaker will be Jean Putnam. She will be talking about
the Orphan Train that ran from 1853-1925. Her Grandmother was on
one of these trains and shares how she ended up in Tintah, Minnesota.
