MANAGERIAL DECISION MAKING

aan Irmak make a new romantic movie for the next year. He and his crew want to pick
the right people to perform in his movie. They want this new movie be a hit and approved
by the audience. All their cast was defined except the leading actor. aan Irmak want
someone who can fit in the character as he imagined. Also he want to give the role to
someone who can attract the audience. They want to apply managerial decision making
techniques to find the best actor for the movie. The casting crew has five alternative actors
and they will be evaluated according to seven common attributes with different values for
each actor. Choosing process is not random; all the attributes will be taken in consideration
to reach the best result.
Alternatives: Bura Glsoy, Kenan mirzalolu ,Mehmet Gnsur, Engin Altan Dzyatan,
Burak zivit

Attributes: Cost of actor, Feasibility of the role, Gestures, Charisma, Appearance,


Popularity, Free schedule.
All the attributes that the characters have are benefit attributes except from the cost of
actor so we dont have non-monotic attributes. There are lots of attributes that can be
determined to choose with this particular selecting criteria, but Actors chooses only seven of
them because an excess in the number of attributes could complicate the choosing system
and it would increase the cost of each alternative.
The attributes are scaled in an interval scale. A unit of difference in each attribute refers
to same differentiation and there is no a specific zero point for each attribute, zero values are
only reference points. For example the difference between 1 valued and 2 valued
Charisma is the same as between 3 valued and 4 valued charisma attribute. Having zero
point in charisma does not mean the actor cannot even have any charisma. The main goal of
this decision process is to choose the best actor for this film.

Cost of actor: Payment for actors


Feasibility of the role: Situation of matching for the existing role.

Gestures: Form of non-verbal communication or non-vocal communication in which visible bodily


actions communicate particular messages
Charisma: Impression on people
Appearance: The way that someone looks
Popularity: Being known among people, having a big number of fans.
Free Schedule: Duration when actors is available or having time to play another films, TV series.

Our decision making problem that is choosing the leading actor for aan Irmaks new movie has
five alternatives and we evaluated these alternatives according to seven attributes. According to the
weights that we specified, Mehmet Gnsr is the best alternative to choose for the movie. When we
compare weights, he is more preferable one than others. He has the second high score at cost but
especially feasibility of role and appearance and also free schedule make him the most preferable
alternative. However the consistency index of this problem is higher than 0.1. It shows that our
pairwise comparison values that we determine by rating each of them is not convenient. So using
AHP for decision making does not give us an accurate result for this problem.
