The general expandable casing guidelines call for TOC to be less than 75% of the
post expansion annular length.
I had a meeting with Enventure and they indicated that if the casing 1000 feet
(300m) of open hole operators have been using 100% of that post-expansion
volume.
Does anyone have any experience with using volumes greater than 75% of the post
expansion annular length?
If yes, do you have any lesson learned or best practices that you could share me?

Michael,

I was going to do 7 5/8 x 9 5/8 SET contingency liner cementing job last month, but fortunately or
unfortunately, the job was canceled at last minute.
Since Enventure doesnt want large size cutting disturb SET expansion in overlap section, they advised to
pump either
Option1 : only small volume around shoe
Option2 : pump more than OH volume to make sure TOC goes above liner overlap
In our case, OH was +- 800m & there was loss circulation while drilling 8 1/2 x 9 1/2 OH. Thus, we chose
Option1 (400m column after expansion, +- 25 bbl 15.8ppg slurry)
Im not sure what is your SET size, but SET length is relatively short, maybe it makes a sense to pump
more volume???
I havent done any SET job w/ 100% volume, so Im not really answering your question. I hope you get
appropriate feedback from other location.

Michael
We ran an expandable Hydra-Skin (Weatherford) liner in Algeria to cover an
unexpected high pressure zone.
One of the concerns was the seal on the elastomer elements on the expandable
liner hanger system.
Elastomers on the expandable top (overlap of 9 5/8 casing) were the sealing
mechanism on the top of expandable liner.

In our case no excess was pumped at all; 6 arm caliper log was run to know the
hole volume for the slurry volume, 100% of the annular volume (post expansion)
was pumped.
All the dimensions pre and post expansion should be provided by Enventure.
If there is no seal element you can go with a TOC above of the TOL.
The risk was to damage the seal elements (elastomers) with the slurry.
If you need more details on this success job, please let me know.

Mauricio

Michael,
As such system do not have liner hanger but the top liner joint has 5 elastomer
seals which serve as liner hanger and seal assembly, after the expansion is
completed. Cement slurry in this section could affect the sealing ability of elastomer
seals with the previous casing. So to get this done successfully in safer way,
Enventure or even other companies do not recommend any cement slurry in this
section. Their recommendations are, post expansion slurry volume of open hole
section only and even do not consider over lap volume. Same as in your case.
Best regards
Shahid
