RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Dissertation: Examining the Mission and Future Viability of NAFEO’S

(National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education) Equal
Opportunity Educational Institutions (EOEIs). Adviser: Cherie K. Lohr, Ph.D

5
Darrell E. Brown

Research Finding: The findings indicated that support for black student
enrollment is continuing to increase at Equal Opportunity Educational
Institutions (EOEIs) and that black student enrollment was also increasing at
majority white institutions. EOEIs perceive there is no need to change their
mission statements, in order to attract non-African-American students.
EOEIs perceive they suffer in terms of funding by not being classified as
HBCUs; however, EOEIs do not perceive they would fare better if classified
as HBCUs.
