Step One to Mental Relaxation The objective is to gradually move the attention
focus from external to internal, this will help to improve span of attention:

Elementary Steps to be de-stress Breath

1. Take a deep breath through your nostrils.


2. Fill your lungs till you feel the pressure of inhaled air on your abdomen.
3. While holding your breath count to six.
4. Gradually, slowly exhale your breath till both your lungs are completely empty.
5. Immediately repeat steps 1 to 4 and completely concentrate on the inhaling and
exhaling process.
This process will help you to de-stress yourself. Some of the classic symptoms of
stress are:
 Adrenaline rush
 Heart racing
 Pounding pulse
 Profuse perspiration
 Rapid shallow breaths
 Cold hands and feet
 Face flushing
 Stomach upset
 Intense and frequent headaches
 Appetite gain/loss
 Dry mouth
 Feeling butterflies in the stomach
 Dizziness
 Feeling light headed.

Elementary Steps to Calm Breath

1. Take a deep breath through your nostrils.


2. Fill your lungs till you feel the pressure of inhaled air on your abdomen.
3. Gradually, slowly exhale your breath till both your lungs are completely empty.
4. After exhaling, feel the emptiness inside you while counting 1 to 6.
5. Immediately repeat steps 1 to 4 and completely concentrate on the inhaling and
exhaling process.

Most Important Step to de-stress Yourself
Immediately become self-conscious, especially of your:
 Lung movement in breathing and regulate it with de-stress breathing process.
 Become conscious of your stomach, your eyes, your limbs and the stiffness in
them.
 Do the steps of Calm breathing to relax yourself both physically and mentally.
Physical Relaxation to de-stress
Practice the following once daily or when you feel stressed:
1. Consciously stretch the following parts of your body:
 Forehead
 Temples
 Eyes
 Jaw
 Grind your teeth
 Neck, throat
 Shoulder
 Chest
 Stomach
 Lower back
 Thighs
 Calf muscles
 Feet/toes and ankles
2. Now relax every part of your body in the same sequence as mentioned above.
3. Repeat the process at least for three times.
4. Sit straight on a straight backed chair with armrest. Do not lean on the chair.
5. Place your arms on the arm rest and keep both your legs parallel to the floor.
6. Let your arms placed on the arms rest bear the weight of your body and raise
yourself up from the chair.
7. Squeeze your buttocks and do the steps of Calm Breathing while you remain in
suspended position.
8. Slowly sit down on the chair and repeat the stretching and relaxing of the body
parts along with Calm Breathing.
9. Do de-stress breathing and calm breathing alternately whenever you need to
relax.
10. Daily take six deep sigh breaths followed by body muscle stretch and relaxation.
Then complete the relaxation exercise with de-stress and Calm breathing
exercises.

The purpose of calming down self both mentally and physically is to calmly initiate
the process of self assessment without any prejudice or bias taking the better of us.

The following diagram shows various internal (self) and external (organization)
aspects we need to assess in all earnestness.
When we complete the assessment we will have a true picture of our self and the
organization/society/institution we are a part of:

finds it difficult to develop positive personality traits by him or her then can definitely do
so through formal Learning and Development activities.
