Scenario

Java Status

course from Summer 2014
version
100% Java Free!

Instructor DOESNT use new version but

copies course from a previous release
Java needed for:
a) Readiness Checks
b) Select SAM/eText Activities (listed in this document
below by title)
What are instructor options in this scenario to avoid
Java?
OPTION 1. NOT TO ASSIGN these items using chart

below with Java-based activities as a reference for what

not to assign.
OR
OPTION 2. USE JAVA PLAN B described in #3 below to

copy the Java-Free content into the courses instructors

want to use.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
1) MyLanguageLabs Summer 2014 New and Re-released Courses will be Java-free!

Instructors should create a new Program or Course from the MyLanguageLabs My Courses Catalog to benefit from the
automatic elimination of the Java plug-in. Java is no longer required for ANY Voice Recording Activities (new or older courses),
the Readiness Checks, or for selected SAM or eText activities in the 2014 Versions.
updates as well as the availability dates of the 2014 Versions.

2) Instructros do NOT want to move to the 2014 MyLanguageLabs versions. How will they be
affected by Java?
While ALL Courses (2014 or previous versions) will have Java-free Voice Recording activities, if instructors do not create their
courses from the Summer 2014 versions they will still have the following Java-based content in their existing or copied courses
or programs:

a. All Readiness Checks

b. Select Activities (see below for specific titles):

3) Is there a way to copy the Java-free versions of the Readiness Checks/SAM/etext Activities
into older (existing) courses? Yes, Java Plan B!
Although we are recommending that users download a NEW 2014 Released Course or Program, if they do not do this step,
there is an alternate way for instructors to have a Java-Free Course with their existing older course versions.
Instructors can copy and replace the Java-based content in their courses with the Java-free content by using the Publisher
Shared Library in following the steps outlined below or shown in the video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IgNWYd0NbY&list=PL438260E1CA115A66&index=25
