Dinria, overcoming example of fighting against

undernourishment
Written by Pedro Maunde
I asked Sungukate Alzira to support me visiting the caregiver and her child, and
we discovered that her child was undernourished, not having appropriate weight
for her age, did not play and her belly was large Sungukate volunteer Floriana
Sungukate Floriana informed me that a young child aged 3 living in Mbanguine A
was undernourished, the caregiver was referred to Health Center in Funhalouro
the child was observed by the nurse and was found indeed the undernourishment
as the problem. On that day the child was given the supplementary feeding by
INAS1 due to the state she was - Mutuque, ECD Community Facilitator, AJEPROJ

Little Dinria with her mother Ticelina and his uncle Alfredo, both at his home in Mbanguine A, Funhalouro

Dinria Mazive is a young child aged 3, exposed to the HIV/AIDS, who her mother became
pregnant at 16 years old from unknown father, she experienced bitter moments of mortgaged
future between
life and death due
to severe health complications (because
undernourishment state she was) when Sungukate Floriana started home visits providing
support in responsive care using the adapted Essential Package visual reference guide,
provided by ECD project implemented in Mbanguine A, Funhalouro district.

Social Welfare Protection Scheme

Even the time when Dinria was diagnosed as undernourished in February 2015, both (her and
her mother) had not yet treated their birth records, fact noticed in the local health center,
when she was referred for immediate access to supplementary feeding Plumpy nut at INAS
due to its complicated health state. Sungukate Floriana and the Community Facilitator
Mutuque supported Dinrias mother to have declaration from the community leader to
formally apply for supplementary feeding to the little child.
Dinrias mother is living with her older brother Alfredo Nzunculo now aged 30, who is farming
and take care his sister and niece.
Suddenly I saw that Dinria had big belly and when I wanted to know from
neighbors I was told that the problem was the mothers milk, it was not good
and nothing else I did luck is that shortly, after Sungukate Floriana began
visiting us she realized that Dinria had health problems Alfredo, Dinria uncle
In the last joint visit between CARE, AJEPROJ and INAS, held in May, we noticed having nice
improvements of the little Dinria nutritional status, healthy and stimulant environment,
although some problems persist that deserve follow-up related to the fact that both (mother
and daughter) not having birth record, family planning and not covered walls of the hut where
the child and mothers sleep.
My daughter now is playing and smiles, I usually play with her.I can say that
now she is already saved, I am doing all that Sungukate is telling me Ticelina,
Dinrias mother
