Dates for your Diary

Summer Fete Saturday 27th June 1.00-4.00pm on the School Field.

Only 2 weeks away!!
Many thanks to all who have offered help, donated prizes, or money. We
have volunteers to man the stalls and games, but still need helpers to sell
cakes, and helpers to serve teas:- 1.00-2.00pm, 2.00-3.00pm, 3.00-4.00pm.
Disposable cups are used nowadays, so there is very little washing up.

Tombola, Children's Tombola and the various stalls and games. No jumble
or bric-a-brac thank you!

them to the School, if possible, on Fri 26th pm or Sat 27th am.

PRAYER GROUP - In order to launch the prayer group, I propose that,
initially at least, we gather together on a Tuesday evening after the 7.00
pm Mass at approx 7.35 pm. Also initially, I suggest that we use Evening
Prayer from the Divine Office of the Church (recited daily by priests and
religious), The intercessions appointed for the day can then be extended
into our own prayers for our particular needs and those of the parish.

Fr Peter Gallagher RIP

With great sadness we learned of the death of Fr Peter
Gallagher last Monday 8th June. As you know, Fr Peter
was Parish Priest here at St Benedict's for 30 years
before his retirement in 2013. After a sudden collapse
in his bathroom, Fr Peter could not be revived and his
long life ended
The Funeral arrangements have now been made. The principal Requiem
Mass, celebrated by the Archbishop and concelebrated by many of the
priests of the diocese, will take place in Nuneaton at 11.30 am on Friday
26th June at the Church of Our Lady of the Angels. This Church has been
chosen as the location of the Requiem Mass because it is large enough to
accommodate the numbers of priests and people likely to be participating
in the Mass and prayers for Fr Peter. Also because the Nuneaton parish
was where Fr Peter grew up and celebrated his first Mass after ordination.
However, in recognition of the 30 years Fr Peter ministered as Parish
Priest here at St Benedict's, and as a special opportunity for as many
parishioners to come together to pray for his soul, Fr Peter's body will be
brought to St Benedict's Church on Thursday 25th June at 7.00 pm, after
which the Dean, Fr Michael Gamble, will celebrate Mass for him. Fr Peter's
body will remain in the Church overnight until 9.00 am on Friday morning,
when the coffin will be taken to Nuneaton.
After the evening Mass, the Church will remain open for a period of time,
so that parishioners may have the opportunity to come to pray for Fr Peter
- and also for a period of time before 9.00 am in the morning.

Fr Paul - I have to announce that after a recent CAT scan, my surgeon has
told me that a new, although very small growth has appeared again on my
liver (at the back). Consequently, he wants me to return to the QE Hospital in
B'ham for further surgery to remove this - a very similar op. to the one I had in
January. This is going to take place on Fri 10th July and I shall be away again
for a couple of months.
I had planned to take a short break in Rome next week, and the Vicar General
has told me to still do this. So I shall be away next weekend and the following.
I know that you will keep me in your prayers - as I will you!
