TheUSEmbassyisseekinganindividualforthepositionofEngineerinFacilities
MaintenanceSection.

BASICFUNCTIONOFPOSITION
ProvideconstructionandmaintenancecontractdevelopmentservicesfortheFacilities
MaintenanceDivision.Overseecontractmanagementandprovidetechnicalengineering
supportfortheMission.Theprojectspecificationsandtechnicaladviceencompass
electrical,mechanical,andcivil/structuralengineeringrequirements.Projectoversight
includesplanning,costestimation,design,construction,inspection,andreceptionof
works.SupportprovidedisforUSfacilitiesoperationsinDaresSalaamPositionreports
totheFacilityManager.

MAJORDUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES:
EngineeringandContractManagement:
60%oftime
Incumbentprocessesqueriesfortechnicalandadministrativerequirementsof
renovationandalterationprojectsaswellasrequestsforchangestoexistingstructures.
Incumbentresearchesandpreparesfeasibilitystudiestoascertaintechnicalandlegal
constraintsinaccordancewithlocalbuildingcodesandrequirementsoftheOverseas
BuildingsOperations(OBO)inWashingtoninordertodelineateviabilityofproposals.
Incumbentpreparesengineeringscopesofworks,plans,designs,drawings,
specifications,billsofmaterialsandindependentcostestimatesforconstruction,
alterations,andmaintenance/repairprojectsforGovernmentfacilitiesandequipment.
Jobentailseditingandreviewingtechnicalreports,tenderdocuments,drawings,
specificationsandcostestimatesdevelopedbycontractedArchitectandEngineering
(A&E)firms.PositionensuresthatlocalcodesandtheDepartmentofStatessafetyand
technicalstandardsarestrictlyadheredto.

MaintenanceandConstruction:
30%
AsoneoftheMissionstechnicallyresponsibleengineeringexperts,positionsupplies
technicalguidanceandsupportforallmajormaintenanceandconstructionprojectsin
DaresSalaam.Provisionofguidanceandtechnicaladvicetoothermaintenance
supervisorsandprojectmanagersasrequiredisateamrequirement.Incumbentassists
theMaintenanceManagerandtheFacilitiesManagerwithalltechnicalprojectsand
purchasesofequipmentandmachinerybyprovidingpertinentrecommendations,
reports,anddata.

OtherDuties:

QUALIFICATIONSREQUIRED
Allapplicantsmustaddresseachselectioncriteriondetailedbelowwithspecificand
comprehensiveinformationsupportingeachitem.
1. Education:GraduateengineerwithB.S.degreeincivil,mechanical,electrical,or
relatedengineeringfieldisrequired.

2. PriorWorkExperience:Fiveyearspriorworkexperienceinanengineeringfirm
performingdesignandconstructionservicesisrequired.

3. Languageproficiency:LevelIV(Fluent)inEnglishandKiswahili(speaking,
writingandreading)withproficiencyinthespecializedvocabularyrequiredbythe
dutyoftheposition.

4. Knowledge:MustbefamiliarwithUSandIBC(International)buildingcodes
andrequirementsunderstandingofdesign,construction,andmaintenance
procedurescommonsafetyprotocolsincludingtheEmbassySHEMprogramand
relatedtoolsandbuildingmaterialsProfessionalknowledgeofelectrical,
mechanical,orcivilengineeringconcepts,principles,andpracticesapplicabletoa

fullrangeofdutiesconcernedwiththedesign,layout,andconstructionof

5. SkillsandAbilities:MustbefluentinusingMicrosoftOffice,andproject
managementsoftware.Abilitytoreadandunderstandengineeringand
architecturalplansandbuildingschematics.Abilitytohandlemultitaskingand
complicatedprojects.ProficentwithAutoCADsoftware.Registeredasa
professionalengineerandpayrequiredfee.Drivinglicenseisalsorequired.
