One year ago in May I started working full time with

Training Leaders International. Thankfully, Ive
learned a lot since then. Ive read a bunch of great
books, taken several fantastic courses at Bethlehem
Baptist, met dozens of wonderful people and absorbed
a great deal of firsthand knowledge about missions.
Here are a few thoughts I have looking back.

Spring 2015

God is a Missionary God

God created us to glorify him. When Adam sinned he separated himself from the glory of God,
taking away his inclination to glorify God. The goal of all missions then becomes to increase the
number of people who glorify God. John Piper states it like this: Missions exists because worship
doesnt. This is a theme underlying the entire bible, God sent the law, the prophets, the writings
and Jesus to point the people towards his glory. What an awesome God we serve.
Missions is about broken people serving broken people
Lets break ourselves of the idea that the people we send to do missions are somehow more
specially gifted. We all have different gifts and distinct opportunities and the same goal: to make
disciples of all nations.
Missions is about relying on God
The best way to point people to worshipping Christ is to start relying on God for our daily bread.
That will look differently for everyone. For me over the past year it has meant spiritual and
financial reliance. Seek out ways to increase your reliance on God in your daily life, the hard,
risky, uncomfortable road leads to great rewards.
God is Good
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new
every morning; great is your faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, says my soul, therefore I
will hope in him. (Lam. 3:22-24 ESV)
