Industrial Ethernet communication

using existing cabling
The highlight of the new module? During VD (variable distance) operation, Industrial Ethernet communication is
made possible via non-Ethernet-specific cabling (Profibus DP
or other two-wire cabling) without having to change over to
other transmission methods such as DSL, for example. Depending on the quality of the line, distances of up to 500 m
at a rate of 100Mbps or 1,000m at a rate of 10Mbps can be
covered. Furthermore, the VD module allows for an extension of the standard Industrial Ethernet cable length at
100Mbps in order to cover even greater distances. This
means that remote users at a distance of more than 100m
do not necessarily need to be integrated into the plants network using optical fibers but can be integrated by simply
using copper cables.

Secure data transmission guaranteed

Security does not suffer, either. It is possible to connect
the VD media module to the most recent modular version
of the Scalance S product line, Scalance S627-2M, thus ensuring secure communication in two-wire lines as well. With
the firewall and VPN security functions, Scalance S627-2M
can filter data communication and avoid unauthorized
access as well as safely authenticate the transmitted data
and protect from manipulation and espionage using en
cryption.

Installation cost savings

Using the VD media module reduces costs when installing a
plant, since the already installed copper cables can be used,
thus avoiding high cable-laying expenses. In this case, the
module can be used as a standard Industrial Ethernet or VD
interface. All in all, the new media module offers the possibility to migrate existing Profibus systems to Profinet without having to lay new cables!

Liquid-cooled modules for Sinamics S120

Efficient cooling method

iquid-cooled Active Interface Modules (AIMs) and Active

Line Modules (ALMs) are now also available for Sinamics
S120 low-voltage converters. These modules cover a
voltage range between 500 and 690 V, with an output of
1,700kW. The liquid-cooled solution transfers almost all the
heat of the modules to the cooling liquid. Room air-conditioning can therefore be significantly decreased and the associated
costs of installation, maintenance, and operation reduced.
Because no fans are necessary, the power consumption of the
modules is lower as well.
Sinamics S120 ALMs are available with outputs of 380 kW,
630 kW, and 900 kW at 380480 V and of 1,100 kW at
500690 V. They are able to feed the energy back into the
grid, thus offering significant cost savings. AIMs for the grid
connection form a functional unit with the ALMs. The AIMs
filter the harmonics to a large degree and ensure that there
is very little circuit feedback. The new modules contain a liquid-cooled throttle, a liquid-cooled filter module, and fasteners. By connecting up to four identical modules in parallel,

up to 5,700 kW can be realized on the

motor side and up to 6,460 kW on the grid

Simocode pro earth-fault module

Cost-effective monitoring
The new 3UF7510-1AA00-0 Siemens earth-fault module for
the Simocode pro motor management system monitors earth
faults in conjunction with 3UL23 residual current transformers. This makes it possible to detect errors before the
plant stands still.

xternal earth-fault monitoring is

used either in power grids earthed
with high alternating current resistance or wherever it is necessary to
precisely capture data on the earth
fault current, for example for condition
monitoring.
The new 3UF7510-1AA00-0 earthfault module, combined with devices
from the Simocode pro V series and
3UL23 residual current transformers,
provides a solution with high measuring accuracy and a large setting range.
In addition to the tripping threshold, a
warning threshold can also be parameterized, allowing for early error notification. The connection to the associated 3UL23 residual current transfor

mer is permanently checked for broken

wires and short circuits. This ensures
continuous monitoring, making manual tests redundant. Depending on the
cable diameter used, the residual current transformer is available with six
different outlet openings.
The combination of an earth-fault
module and a 3UL23 residual current
transformer enables early detection of
any deterioration of the isolation in
the maintenance station, thus reducing downtime. Furthermore, this option provides a solution for all leadthroughs at a more attractive price
than before.

3VA molded case circuit breaker

Variable system protection

ith the new 3VA molded case circuit breakers,

Siemens adds a new product line to its Sentron portfolio. Uses range from standard applications in
buildings to demanding industrial applications. The new
molded case circuit breakers are available in two types, 3VA1
and 3VA2. Depending on the size and model, there are
single- to four-pole versions available designed for rated
currents between 16 A and 630 A as well as for rated voltages up to 690 V AC.
With their thermal-magnetic trip unit (TMTU), 3VA1 devices perform all standard tasks required in plant protection.
Due to their compact design, they are ideal for use in distribution boards and mechanical engineering, allowing up to
50% space savings in switching systems, control cabinets,
and distribution boards compared with equivalent products.
The 3VA2 series has been designed for applications with
higher technical demands. In addition to a higher breaking
capacity, of up to 150 kA, these modules feature an electronic trip unit (ETU), optional measuring and communication functions, and very good selectivity characteristics for
high plant availability, among other things. In addition, the
integrated measuring function (ETU850 and ETU860) captures power, voltage, and energy values and plant conditions. Data transfer and connection to higher-level energy
management or automation systems is effected by means
of the well-established Profibus, Profinet, and Industrial
Ethernet (Modbus TCP) bus systems. Energy costs can be

considerably reduced by capturing and evaluating precise

consumption data.
Thanks to the modular design and more than 500 individual accessory components, 3VA molded case circuit breakers can be configured for any application and extended with
more than 70 additional functions. Thanks to the intuitive,
ergonomic design and the integrated displays, they can also
be operated easily and safely. Engineering effort has been
minimized as well. Users are now able to configure the
molded case circuit breakers individually via an online product configurator and to retrieve all product data such as 3-D
graphics or EPLAN Electric P8 macros in just a few seconds
via the CAx Download Manager, which provides up to
80%time savings compared with a manual data search.
Molded case circuit breakers feature specific interfaces for
integration into TIA Portal and for connection to automation
and Simatic PCS 7 systems.
