The information about employment rights and responsibilities can be found in two
main sources:
Internal sources (in an organization) and here we have: informed colleagues,
line managers, books and documents held in the organization.
External sources (outside organization): Citizen Advice Bureau, Legal
professionals, Government.

4. Describe how representative bodies can support employees. [1.4]


Employees can receive support thought representative bodies and the best are
Trade Unions. A trade representative body is a union member who helps, support
and give advices to colleagues when they have work problems.
They can give advices by:

5. Identify employer and employee responsibilities for equality and diversity in a


business environment. You should give at least two employer responsibilities and
two employee responsibilities. [1.5]
If possible, provide relevant equality and diversity procedures from your workplace
(or place of study) to support your answer. These documents should be annotated
to highlight the relevant sections.
The employees should follow the procedures and maintain a safe and secure
environment, be aware of judgements that they do and treat people with respect they
would expect.
The employer should train staff for health and safety issues, develop procedures and
policies, prevent discrimination and to ensure that line managers appreciate and
promote fair treatment.

6. Explain the benefits of making sure equality and diversity procedures are followed
in a business environment. Your answer should include one benefit for the employer,
one benefit for the employee and one benefit for the overall organisation. [1.6]
For an organization the benefit of making sure equality and diversity procedures are
followed is that is likely to have more productive, competent, and motivated and a
positive environment. The benefit for the employee is that he will be more productive
and they have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and learn new things.
The employees must to ensure that this procedures are followed because are social
and economic benefits.

1a. Identify employer and employee responsibilities for health and safety. [2.1]
The employer should ensure that employees are adequately, consult and work with
employees and their health and safety representatives in protecting anyone harm in
the workplace, give free of charge equipment and protective clothing, provide toilets,
washing facilities and drinking water, have insurance that include employees in case
they get hurt at work.
The employees have to follow the procedures and training that they receive from
employer, take care of them and other people regarding health and safety, talk with
their employer if they think that the work or inadequate precautions are putting
anyones safe in danger.

1b. Identify employer and employee responsibilities for security. [2.1]


If possible, provide relevant health, safety and security policies / documents from
your workplace (or place of study) to support your answer. These documents should
be annotated to highlight the relevant sections.
For secure environment employees should complying with training and organisation
security procedures, wearing suitable clothing, maintaining a tidy work area, keeping
password secure.
An employer should provide any appropriate training and develop adequate
procedures, set up emergency plans, installing CCTV cameras, alarms and light
systems.
2. Explain the purpose of following health, safety and security procedures in a

It is very important to ensure that the procedures of health, safety and security are
followed, because if they dont, can result in fines, reprimands, even prison

sentences. Every organisation have rule, and staff and management have to follow
the legal require, because if they fail to do this, they can be subject of disciplinary
procedures. If results fines, that means that the law is breaking, and this can have
bad consequences for customers and for organization.

3. Describe three different ways of maintaining a safe and secure business


environment. [2.3]
The employee have not to wear dangerous clothing, not be under the influence of
alcohol, to notice everything that can cause problems ,be willing to take actions if
something happens and take actions to ensure the safety of others.
The employer has to protect people from attack, to protect computers, meet legal
responsibilities and prevent that unauthorised persons dont enter in building.

1. Describe three different methods of communication. You should include two


verbal, two non-verbal and two written methods of communication. [3.1]

Written
Verbal communication is the easier and faster way to communicate with others,
can be done in face to face interactions, meetings, group discussions. I can use the
phone to talk with customers, with my colleagues or my manager.
Non-verbal communication includes apparent behaviours such as facial
expressions, eye, touching, and tone of voice, but also includes dress, posture and
spatial distance between people.
We use written communication to send emails, texting and letters. I can use this
way to communicate with customers by letters or I can write a report to inform people
about my progress.

2. Using two specific examples, explain how to choose the most appropriate method
of communication to meet your needs and the needs of others. [3.2]
The fastest, easy and secure way to pass information is verbal face to face
communication, but if you want to transmit something formal or confidential, the best
way is to write an email or a letter.

When someone is talking to you is respectful and important to focus on conversation,
you may miss important informations.Body language is important in a conversation,
you have to make eye contact, so the person who is talking will know that you are
interested about what he is saying and is sure that you understand the informations.

By agreeing standards work, means that you know what the organisation require
from you and others, employer and employees will know clearly what output is
expected and the environment will be more productive .

2. Explain the purpose of taking on new challenges and being able to adapt to
change at work. [4.2]
A good business will always improve and adapt to new technologies and challenges,
and every person should be open to this. An organisation will value people who are
willing to take new challenges and those who are positive with challenges will always
have more opportunities. Those who want to advance in position are open in
learning new things and they are always happy to take responsibilities.

You must treat others in the way that you will expect others treat you. If you want

tasks in a business environment. [5.1]
Meeting work standards is very important in relations organization-customer. Always
customer requirements must be met and if they are not, they will look for better
services in other organizations that offer top quality services. If standards and
deadlines are not met, this will impact the organization's image.

2. Identify two different methods that you can use to plan your own work in a
business environment. [5.2]
For a good quality of your work, it is very important to set clear goals, to create your
to do list, make difference between work and busy work, stick to your calendar and
priorities and dont allow nothing to distract you from your priorities.

3. Describe ways of keeping other people informed about progress and compare
their effectiveness. What are the benefits and drawbacks of each approach? [5.3]

Face to face communication, a personal, detailed and very thorough way to


keep people informed about your progress, but this take time and if you need
to do other jobs or to be in another place, this can be a drawback.
Emails, an easy, cheap, detailed, thorough way to communicate. Drawback:
limited form of information transferred and takes time to read.
Phone calls, personal, quick and you can make conference call. Drawback:
people can over hear you.

For personal satisfaction and for efficiency in your work, it is very important to
improve your performance in a business environment. By improving your
performance, you can show your skills and learn new skills and when you produce
good quality work, and then you will feel your job satisfaction. If you want to advance
in the organization, then you have to continue improving your performance in your
workplace.

2. Describe at least two ways of improving your performance at work. Where


relevant, illustrate your answer with specific examples from your own experience.

Plan and priorities your work, create a daily schedule and stick to it, be
punctual and serious.
Avoid distractions, focus in the key for professional people.

There are three important aspects to find out what career I want: what I know to do,
which are my qualities and what I'd like to do.
For the moment I am a Teaching Assistant volunteer in a Primary School, I like to
take new responsibilities and I wait for a new position to apply for the role. In this
school they may need an admin and this course can help me, demonstrating new
skills.

In a business can occur minor problems, who are easy to solve (photocopier runs
out of paper or toner) and major problems (failure of a machine, computer crash)

they can be dealt with. [7.2]
Damage of a machine from production line: the manager should be informed to take
the appropriate measures.
The absence of a colleague can be a problem, because there is no one to do his job,
will be unfinished work, but also can be another person to take the responsibilities for
that day.

3. List at least two problems you are able to deal with yourself and two problems you
would need to refer to others to deal with. Explain how and when you would refer
these problems to others. [7.3]
I am able to change toner and paper from the printer and accept responsibility to
replace a colleague so will be no undone things but for sure I could not fix a machine
from production line or to fix my computer, for this problems I would inform my
supervisor to call a technician to fix them.
