Management Plan
Mission Statement
The mission of the MVHS Dance Department is to set a standard of excellence in technique,
choreography, and performance by mature, original, and artistic means. The department enables students
to build character traits and elevate their community in a quality environment.

Strategies, procedures, and routines
Class Rules
Dress code:
o Appropriate dance pants are fitted and not too long. Shorts must be at
least mid-thigh or have tights underneath them.
o Dance tops or leotards must have at least a 1 strap and without a
revealing neckline
o We dance in bare feet. Socks are not permitted for safety and practicality
reasons (we do not perform in socks and therefore need to practice in bare
feet).
Dress down
o Dress to dance every day. Do not wear pajama pants, jeans, or baggy tshirts (with the exception of layers to warm up). Dance clothing should be
form fitting.
o Do not expect to borrow clothing from the costume room for class. Please
bring your own dance clothing each day.
o Inappropriate dancewear will result in one warning and then a loss of
participation points.
o Students may not change in the dance room or costume closet. Adequate
time is given to change upstairs in the locker room.
Participation Points consist of:
o Being on-time for roll call (10 points)
o Wearing appropriate dancewear, no gum/food/socks, no electronics,
participating whole-heartedly and respectfully during the class (listening to
and following instructions promptly, not distracting self or classmates from
learning) (10 points)
o 20 points total per day
o Roll will be taken 7 minutes after the bell
o Students are allotted one observation day per semester on which they may
take notes in order to gain full participation points for the day. Additional
observation days must be accompanied by a doctors note.
o This class strictly follows the Mountain View school wide attendance policy.

Studio rules
o Students will leave all backpacks and personal items (including shoes) in
the cubby holes in the stair well or in their lockers. The only exception is
water bottles.
o The school furnishes a locker. It is the students responsibility to keep all
valuables including electronics locked up. A lost and found will be kept in
the dance room, but security is not a guarantee. Lost locks cost $5.
o The costume closet is off limits to students unless accompanied by Mrs.
Dalley
Grading Procedures
o Late assignments will be accepted up to one week after the due date but
will lose 10% per day.
In-Class Routines
o Roll will be taken 7 minutes after the bell rings.
o We will rotate lines and change facings periodically throughout the class.
Developing ownership of rules
o Students will report their level of participation in group work as well as
those in their group
o Students will complete self-assessments throughout the semester
concerning skill as well as participation
Student Descriptions
o A student: On-time, turns in quality assignments on-time, appropriate dress
daily, gives each class 100% commitment, is respectful and follows all
class/school policies, and is an example to their peers
o B student: Rarely late, assignments and class work are rarely late and
usually good quality, almost always dressed appropriately for class,
committed most of the time, rarely shows disrespect/incompliance with
class and school policies
o C student: Occasionally late, assignments are occasionally late/missing
and/or poor quality, sometimes dressed inappropriately for class,
occasionally uncommitted to the class and participating fully, occasionally
disrespectful and disregards class and school policies
o D student: Often late, many missing/late or low quality assignments, often
dresses inappropriately for class, uncommitted to the class and does not
participate fully or at all, often disrespectful and disregards class and
school policies
Hands-on Procedure:
o Due to the nature of this class, I may need to touch a students head, neck,
shoulders, arms, back, stomach, and legs and feet. If you feel this will
make you uncomfortable, then please make a note of it on the turned in
signature page.

Discipline Plan

Going over rules and procedures in detail on the first day of class

2. Intervention:
Level 1 infractions: Mild (chewing gum, wearing socks, mild disruptions)
o Strike 1: verbal warning
o Strike 2: loss of 5 participation points
o Strike 3: Level 1 becomes a level 2
Level 2 infractions: Moderate (not dressed for class, unauthorized use of
electronics, sitting out, moderate disruptions)
o Strike 1: Loss of 10 participation points
o Strike 2: Loss of 10 participation points
o Strike 3: Level 2 becomes a level 3
Level 3 infractions: Serious (unexcused absence, disrespect, bullying)
o Strike 1: Loss of 20 participation points and phone call home
o Strike 2: Loss of 20 participation points and phone call home
o Strike 3: Level 3 becomes a level 4
Level 4 infractions: Severe (Severe disrespect, harassment, compromising
safety of others, violations of the law)
o Zero Tolerance: Phone call home, referral to school/public officials
and school disciplinary action

Course Objective
Dance is a universal language, an expressive and vibrant art with the capacity to
unify the physical, mental, social, emotional, aesthetic, and spiritual. This
intermediate level dance course builds dance knowledge and skills in technique,
improvisation, choreography, artistic expression, performance, history, culture, life
skills, and connections to other curricular areas. The prerequisite for this course is
Dance I or by audition. Students in this class are encouraged to have an open mind
to try new things as they experience dance as an art form.
Grading
Participation is 40% of the grade and will be determined by:
o Being on-time for roll-call (10 points)
o Wearing appropriate dancewear, participating whole-heartedly and
respectfully during the class (listening to and following instructions
promptly, no gum/food, no electronics, not distracting self or classmates
from learning) (10 points)
o 20 points total per day
Assignments are 30% of the grade:
o Reading/viewing assignments
o Concert critique paper
o Journal
o Self-assessments
Tests, quizzes, and performances: 30%
o Written and/or physical evaluations after each unit
o Various quizzes
o Winter Concert Performance (Mandatory)December 4-5 7:00pm in

document.
