SSM Health at Home introducing

recreational therapy program

SSM Health at Home
Maryville will debut a new,
innovative approach to recreation therapy for older
adults on Tuesday, June 23,
2015, at 10 a.m. at Northwest Missouri State Universitys Center for Innovation
and Entrepreneurship in
Maryville, MO. Its Never
Too Late, dubbed IN2L, is
a nationally recognized, new
technology proven to advance rehabilitation, recreation, cognition, and health
outcomes in older adults.
In
partnership
with
Northwest Missouri State
University
(NWMSU),
nearly 50 SSM Hospice and
Home Care patients in Nodaway County will benefit
from recreation therapy and
this nationally recognized
technology. The virtual IN2L

platform enables caregivers

with little to no experience
in recreation therapies to
deliver these treatments to
patients.
A study by the Mather
LifeWays Institute on Aging
showed that IN2L users had
higher functioning activities
of daily life levels, greater
social engagement, higher
cognitive function and better general health than residents who did not participate in the IN2L program.
The IN2L technology is
being made possible through
recent funding from the
Gladys Rickard Charitable
Trust and SSM Hospice and
Home Care Foundation. For
more information, contact
Nancy Shipley, SSM Health
at Home Maryville, at (660)

Brownville Concert Series is

thrilled to present The Brits
The Brownville Concert
Series is thrilled to be bringing The Brits to the this
little cultural mecca by the
Muddy MO. This rock and
roll cover band will reprise
the British Invasion that
transformed our music scene
in the middle 1960s - music
from The Beatles, Hermans
Hermits, Rolling Stones,
Yardbirds, to The Who. They
will perform in cabaret Friday and Saturday, June 26
and 27, 2015, at 7:30 p.m.
and in concert on Sunday,
June 28, at 2 p.m.
JOE BUDA (Guitar & Vocals) - Joe is a unique and
talented musician who has
played and toured with some
of the areas top bands, including: The Rumbles, Blue
House, Mulberry Lane, and
Soul Cousins. He has also
worked with national acts
such as Martha Reeves and
the Vandellas, The Coasters, and The Gentrys. Joe
and his brother, Jay, led the
popular local band Allspice
for many years. With a longtime desire to play the music he heard as a kid, he got
together with some former
youths his own age to form
The Brits.
DAN
GILLPATRICK
(Drums & Vocals) - Dan
started playing drums in
5th grade. In college, he
formed his first rock band,
Furnace, and later, joined
Trojan Horse. Trojan Horse
opened for Wayne Cochran,

Wayne Cochran and the CC

Riders, at the Royal Grove
in Lincoln, NE. Later, Dan
took time off from music for
marriage and family. Johnny Ray Gomez asked Dan
to play at Johnnys 50th
Reunion show and that rekindled the fire to resume
playing music. Soon after,
he got a call from Joe Buda
to be part of a British Invasion band, which became
The Brits.
RICH BERG (Bass &
Vocals) - Rich was first inspired to pick up the guitar
after seeing The Beatles on
the Ed Sullivan Show. The
British Invasion was in full
swing and Rich immersed
himself in the music and his
instrument. During college,
Rich advanced through local bands like The Wonders,
Thee Misfits, and Mecca. He
replaced the original bassist
for The Rumbles and toured
with them for five years.
After leaving The Rumbles,
Rich got a real job and
played music part-time in
local bands, including Murphys Law, Copperhead, Big
Bang, and Soul Cousins.
When Joe Buda approached
him about forming a British
Invasion band, he jumped at
the opportunity to return to
his musical roots.
BOB FORD (Keyboard,
Guitar, Harmonica, & Sax)
- Bob is the newest member
of The Brits and began performing in the Seattle area

when he was 14. He moved

to Omaha, NE, and played
with several local bands,
including The Wonders, before joining The Rumbles.
He has opened for groups
like The Four Seasons, The
Coasters, The
Drifters,
Looking Glass, Three Dog
Night, Pure Prairie League,
and many others. He currently performs with The
Brits and The Grease Band.
Bob says it was the music of
The Beatles that originally
awakened his instrumental
and vocal talent. The Brits
are a perfect fit for his skills
and musical interests.
Cabaret tickets are $25

Cattle Dog Trial held in Tarkio

After Christi McKenney

took 11th place at the 2015
United States Border Collie
Handlers Associtation National Cattledog Finals with
dog Turbo, then her husband
Mark McKenney took the
USBCHA Cattle Dog Trials to Atchison County. On
Saturday, May 23, 2015, the
McKenneys helped host an
official Cattle Dog Trial at
the Tarkio Rodeo Grounds.
Mark ran his Border Collie,
Tip, while Christi and Turbo watched from the fence.
The trials consisted of two
age divisions, Nursery and
Open. Nursery is for Border Collies three years old
and under. Out of 34 dogs
competing for a spot in both
categories, Mark and Tip

placed 2nd in the Nursery

Novice Category.
During the competition,
the handler and dog must
guide three steers through
simulated gates, a simulated sort pen, and finally into
a trailer. The handler sends
verbal or whistle commands
to their dog, and the dog runs
around, blocking and sometimes nipping at the steer to
get them where they need
to be. Its extremely difficult
with many variables, including the unpredictable three
steers and one dog. One obstinate steer could ruin a
performance.
While the weather was
not the best for spectators,
the dogs didnt mind in the
least.
