Academics

Provide Restora ve Prac ces and Posi ve Behavior


Interven ons and Support (PBIS) training to
principals, assistant principals, teachers and sta.
Site administrators will monitor the implementa on
of Restora ve Prac ces/PBIS by collec ng data to
guide future professional sta development.
Evaluate current Community Service and Senior
Project programs to create a hybrid project that
integrates service learning and civic educa on
principles.

Expand Advanced Placement and Interna onal Baccalaureate


course enrollment and course oerings.

Crea vity&Innova on

School zones will iden fy and refine at least two


dis nguished programs, one academic and one in the
arts.

NewportMesa neighborhood schools should be


the first choice of students and parents. To provide
enhanced op ons, K12 Signature Academies will
be developed with an ar culated focus on college
preparatory academics and arts.
High schools will be responsible for iden fying
academy capstone programs.

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) curriculum will be fully


implemented through the development and use of units of
study. These units of study will be created using Rigorous
Curriculum Design strategies.
NMUSD curriculum will be UC/CSU ag approved and prepare
students for college entrance and Career Technical programs. All
College and Career prepara on pathways will be aligned to high
skill, high wage, and high demand occupa ons.
The CCSS curriculum is the districts guaranteed and viable
curriculum and integrates the four Cs (cri cal thinking,
communica on, collabora on and crea vity) of the 21st Century
Skills.
The districts infrastructure and curriculum design will allow
students to seamlessly integrate technology in all units of study.
Student learning and athle c environments will be safe,
a rac ve and stateoftheart facili es.

Promote and recognize students that earn Na onal Advanced


Placement Scholar designa on.
Provide Guidance and support to prospec ve Na onal Merit
Scholar candidates.
Administer the Preliminary Scholas c Ap tude Test and Na onal
Merit Qualifying Test to all 8th and 10th grade students.
High achieving and academically promising students will be
oered opportuni es to challenge their abili es through
academic augmenta ons embedded in the districts units of
study.
Develop and implement guidance programs, grades 6 12, that
will graduate college and career ready students for the 21st
Century economy.

NMUSD classrooms will oer the highest quality instruc on through


rigorous lesson plans based on eec ve lesson designs that
integrate cri cal thinking, communica on, collabora on, and
crea vity.

Con nue training and refining Rigorous Curriculum Design (RCD),


SWUN Math, Teacher Excellence and Support System (TESS) and
the Na onal Science Standards (NSS).
Support ongoing implementa on of each instruc onal ini a ve
by ins tu ng a traineroftrainer model.
Administrators will observe and support the lesson design
implementa on using Learning Rounds strategies to build
administrator and teacher professional capacity.
