Gopher - USB installer for iPod and iPhone devices
================================================== 1. Purpose ---------Gopher is a tool that gathers applications from a list of repositories, creates a local repository from chosen applications and transfers all the necessary files to the iPod through USB. It configures the AppTapp Installer to install packages from those local files. Benefits: - no wireless connection is needed to install the applications - it is faster to refresh and download the applications on a PC - it is easier to browse through the applications - more to come... ########################################################################## CAUTION ########################################################################## While this program takes as many precautions as possible (tests and backup of files), it directly modifies files used by the Installer. Should something bad occur, it could leave the Installer in a bad state a need manual intervention to solve the issue. SINCE IT IS ONLY A FIRST ALPHA TEST VERSION, THE AUTHOR WILL NOT REPLY TO ANY ENQUIRY AS TO HOW SOLVE PROBLEMS THAT HAPPENED USING THE PROGRAM. Use it at your own risk! ########################################################################## 2. Requirements --------------Gopher runs on Windows only. The following software/libraries must be installed: * iTunes 7.4 or later (Windows XP SP2 required). For the 2005 version (Gopher.<version>.zip): * Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856EACB-4362-4B0 D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en Which requires the following: * Windows Installer 3.0 Redistributable (needs genuine Windows) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=5FBC5470-B259-4 733-A914-A956122E08E8&displaylang=en For the 2003 version (Gopher_2003.<version>.zip): * msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll
A copy of those libraries can be found here:

Installation --------------Check that you have the latest source on this website: http://code.google.com/p/igopher/ For now, just unzip the files in a directory and run the program from there. You can modify the PackageSources.txt file to add or remove repository sources. 4. Uninstalling Gopher ---------------------Remove the files, there is currently nothing special to be done to uninstall the program. 5. User Guide ------------To be done. 6. Known Issues --------------* The temporary directory created on the iPod to store the repository is not properly removed when the user restores the original PackageSources.plist file. It can be removed manually or left until the files are overwritten by the next upload. * When selecting a package, the contact of the Source section shows the correct name, but contains the email of the application contact (or the original repository) instead of the email corresponding to the local Source. This is a bug of the Installer, not a bug of the Gopher program. Reporting bugs can be done on the project page: http://code.google.com/p/igopher/ 7. History ---------* Version 0.2 (16-Feb-2008) Just a little update, mainly the HTTP_USER_AGENT, and 1.1.3 firmware support. - Fixed username in 1.1.3 vs 1.1.2 and prior. - Changed HTTP_USER_AGENT to "AppTapp Installer/3.0 (iPhone)" since some repositories now ignore the previous versions of the Installer.
- Added Files/Create Script and Files/Clean Script (doesn't create the
script if already exists in Files/Export Script). - Added support for repository "source" key value. * Version 0.1 (10-Feb-2008) First public test version. Contains only the basic functionalities to download external repositories, browse applications and choose which to install, and upload the resulting local repository to the iPod. 8.
