Uses

Properties

Nitoproof 100 is designed to provide a continuous barrier

to the passage of water and water vapour and can be
used to produce vapour barriers, damp proof courses,
linings to potable water tanks and pipes, below ground
concrete protection, concrete curing by water retention,
and corrosion protection to metal surfaces.

Instructions for Use

Advantages
Single component.

Surface preparation

Easily and inexpensively applied.

Preparation of surfaces prior to application is most

important. Surfaces must be clean and dry and all loosely
adhering particles such as rust, mill scale, mortar, cement
laitence, should be carefully removed by wire or stiff
brushing and finally soft brushing or filtered compressed
air to remove dust.

Resistant to most naturally occurring chemicals.

Does not taint water.
Can be applied to damp concrete substrates.

For optimum adhesion to steel, grit blasting to SA 2 is

recommended.

Surfaces must be free from oil and grease. In the case of

cementitious surfaces, oil and grease can be removed by
the use of Fosroc Chemical Degreaser (See separate data
sheet) and in the case of steel work, oil or grease should
be removed by a suitable degreasing solvent (Fosroc
Solvent 103).

Nitoproof 100 can be applied to damp concrete, brick and

plaster surfaces provided there is no free surface water or
bleed. A test patch is recommended where there is doubt.

Application

Description

Nitoproof 100 can be applied by brush, roller or spray

equipment to prepared surfaces, for a variety of purposes.
Stir thoroughly prior to use.

Nitoproof 100 is a low viscosity blend of selected bitumens

in solvent which dries to form a high quality tough bitumen
film.

Dam proof membranes, vertical vapour barriers

Apply a full coat of Nitoproof 100 and allow to dry.

Coverage rate should be approximately 3 m per litre.
Apply a second coat of Nitoproof 100 at right angles
to the first coat. If a thicker film build is required the
second coat should be Nitoproof 120/130 (see
separate data sheet).

Standards compliance
BS3416, 1975 Type 1A General purpose bituminous
coating.
BS3416, 1975 Type II Bituminous coating for drinking
water tanks.

Pipe line protection

Two coats of Nitoproof 100 should be applied as in 1.
Where necessary the coating can be thickened at
floor/wall corners by forming a 20 mm x 20 mm fillet
of Nitoproof 130 onto the first Nitoproof 100 coat and
liberally coated with second Nitoproof 100 coat.

Concrete screeds or Render

Flash point

Where it is necessary to cover the membrane with a

screed or render, clean grit 2 mm nominal size should
be broadcast into the wet second coat to provide a
mechanical key. All loose grit should be removed prior
to placing the screed / render. (Care should be taken
to ensure that the membrane is not damaged during
placing of the screed).

Spillage
Replace lid when not in use. Soak up any spillage with
sand or sawdust.

Apply two coats of Nitoproof 100 as in 1 above. This

will give a curing efficiency in excess of 80% and
comply with ASTM C-309. Nitoproof 100 can be
applied to damp concrete.

Shelf life
Shelf life at least 18 months in original unopened
containers.

Repair

Product should be stored in original unopened containers

away from direct sources of heat or naked flame. Storage
should be in full shade or warehoused conditions. Do not
cover with tarpaulin other than for trucking purposes.

Damaged areas of Nitoproof 100 can be readily over-coated

to restore the continuity of the membrane.

Tools and equipment should be cleaned with Fosroc

Solvent 103 or similar immediately after use.

Coverage

25 and 200 litre drum

Normally 2 to 7 m2 per litre per coat dependent upon

substrate porosity and smoothness.

Some people are sensitive to resins and solvents, so gloves

and a barrier cream, Kerodex Anti-Solvent, Rozalex Antipaint, Debba-Wet work or similar, should be used when
handling these products. Remove contamination from skin
with soap and water or a resin-removing cream such as
Kerocleanse standard grade skin cleanser or Rozaklens
Industrial Skin Cleanser. Follow by washing with soap and
water. Do not use Solvent. The use of goggles is
recommended but should accidental eye contamination
occur, wash thoroughly with plenty of water and seek
medical treatment immediately.

To comply with ASTM C-309. 2 coats are required at 3 m

per litre per coat.

Additional information

Nitoproof 100 contains solvents, avoid breathing the

vapours and ensure good ventilation.

Nitoproof 100 is part of the Nitoproof range of waterproofing

products. Nitoproof 100 was formerly known as Orkit 101S.

Fire
Nitoproof 100 and Fosroc Solvent 101 are flammable.
Ensure adequate ventilation. Do not use near a naked
flame and do not smoke during use.
