Part 1 Too Many Options! With so many options to choose from in this part
of the FCE Use of English paper, you need to have our wits about you. As you can be
tested on both your knowledge of grammar as well as vocabulary, you need to do this
exercise with great care.
Here are some tips on how you could approach this type of exercise:
1. Skim quickly through the text to get the gist of it.
2. Read the text again but stop after the first question.
3. Think of what kind of word is required.
4. Look at the options were you right?
5. If not, eliminate answers that you are sure are wrong.
6. Look at the words before and after the question and ask yourself:
a) Do I need to use a set phrase?
b) Is it a phrasal verb?
c) What is the meaning of the sentence?
d) Etc. etc.
7. If you are still not sure, look at the next sentence, is there a clue there?
8. Continue like this until you have completed all the questions.
9. Read through the whole text to make sure that the word you choose makes sensein the
sentence.
10. You should always try to answer and not leave any questions unanswered.

Read the Instructions
Make sure you know what to do always start by reading the instructions first!
Dont Get Bogged Down
If you are struggling to find an answer, move on to the next question and go back to the
question later.
Keep an Eye on the Clock
Dont run out of time! If you have developed your final FCE exam strategy, you will know
how much time you have allocated to this part of the test. Stick to your timetable.
Remember, each part of the FCE Use of English Paper carry approximately the same
amount of marks.
If you do one of the other three parts quicker, you can always go back and finish this part
it is all about maximising your chances to pass your FCE exam!

Bsicamente, pondrs a prueba todo el ingls que hayas aprendido hasta ahora
en cuanto a gramtica y vocabulario. Veamos parte por parte en qu consiste.
3. Aprende bien el uso de los tiempos verbales: present simple, past simple,
present perfect, past perfect, present y past continuous, present y past perfect
continuous, present y past conditional, y las 3 formas del futuro (going to, to
be + ing y will + infinitive). Y por supuesto, las formas de los verbos regulares e
irregulares. Todo esto debes manejarlo con la mayor soltura. Prueba a
hacer ejercicios de tiempos verbalespara ver que lo controlas bien.

4. Estudia el uso de las preposiciones y los artculos: muy importante que
aprendas a utilizar bien las preposiciones en ingls, sobre todo en la parte 2.

5. Estilo directo vs. indirecto y forma activa/pasiva. Debes controlar bien las
formas activa y pasiva del ingls, as como ser capaz de transformar frases
directas en indirectas mediante el uso de los pronombres
THAT/WHAT/WHICH/WHO/WHOSE/WHOM/WHEN/WHERE.
Como ves, es mucha informacin y es quizs la parte a la que ms tiempo de
estudio tendrs que dedicarle, aunque no dure demasiado. En cualquier caso,
recuerda que la clave del xito es dedicarle tiempo y tomrtelo en serio, ya
que resulta bastante difcil pasar esta parte sin llevarla bien preparada. Qu
