Lesson type: communicative using specific vocabulary in a shop and asking and
expressing price
Title: Unit 11 Shopping (textbook Pathway to English - Agenda)
Previous activities: class accustomed to writing and speaking activities; Past Simple
Negative
Teaching aids: Pictures, cards, handouts
Lesson aims: By the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
1. name clothing items
2. ask and express price
3. identify specific information in a listening activity

Time allowed: 50 minutes.

T. Introduces herself and checks


attendance
T. different sticks images with shops
on the Blackboard. T asks students
what they are before writing the title
on the blackboard.
T asks students if they go shopping
with their family, parents,
grandparents, older brothers/sisters.
And asks them what they usually buy.
Then T. gives Ss a handout with a
picture in a Shop and asks Students to
say how many persons there are, who
the shop assistant (sells) is and who are
the customers (buy). Then, T gives Ss
another handout with clothes (with the
Romanian translation) and asks them
to check the items they see in the
picture.
T asks S to listen to a story and after
complete the name of the characters.
Then T asks Ss to open the books at
page 105 and read and translate the
sentences. Then T reads the story again
and the Ss tick the true sentences.
After verifying the exercise, T asks Ss
what they (Jane and Peter) bought.
T. Asks Ss what they use to buy things
-> money and asks them what is the
money used in Romania ->leu/lei. T
explains that in England people buy
things with pounds and pence. 100
pence=1 pound / 100bani=1 leu.
T gives Ss a handout with English
money (coins/monede and
notes/bancnote; change=rest) and reads
the types of money aloud with the
students.
T writes Ct cost? = How much
is(1 item)/are(2+items)? on the Bb

The Story:
Jane and Peter go shopping.
Jane says: I like the yellow tracksuit! Can I try it on?
The shop Assistant says: Yes, you can go to the changing room.
She tries it on, but the tracksuit is too large for Jane.
The shop assistant says: We have the tracksuit in a smaller size.
Peter wants to buy a jacket, but the shop assistant has only red
jackets.
Peter says: I dont like red jackets! I would like a sweatshirt or
better still a black anorak.
The shop Assistant: Oh, the sweatshirt is 8 pounds and the
anorak is 20 pounds.
Peter says: Oh, the anorak is expensive but the sweatshirt is
cheap!
Jane: I want to also buy a pair of trainers, but they are so
expensive.
Finally, Jane and Peter buy a tracksuit and a sweatshirt.
