How mantras are useful
From the time immemorial to the mankind, they have been practicing various mystical, tantrical and
mantrical methods to achieve or fulfill their desires.
Desires vary from man to man. One is in need of wealth, another is in need of health and still
another is in need of worldly comforts including sexual desires. Desires have no limit. We are
all forced to take recourse to various short cut method for accomplishment of desires.
Meditation, mantras being a few methods among them. While meditation is the art of
concentration of mind, mantra is the art of sound vibrations.
MANASIKA [ uttering through mind without moving the lips ] has been considered to be the
best recitation technique. But a few do not agree with this. As they feel that mantra is the art
of sound vibrations, recitation should be done loudly. When we utter the sounds loudly, our
entire body starts vibrating and the more beneficial effect is that our attention is not diverted
and we are completely engulfed in the mantras.
But why mantras are kept secret? In this material world people at large are of destructive
mind, selfish and do the acts through which they can gain, may others suffers, so if the
mantras are not kept secret, others may adopt it and misuse. So mantras are to be kept secret.
If at the time of japa someone is sitting by your side, then recite in a UPANSU [ it is a method
where japa is done very slowly so that no body can hear it. Only lip movement should be
there ] or MANSIC JAPA [ the japa carried out only in the heart without any sound or lip
movement ]. But if you need to recite the mantra loudly then choose a lonely place where you
are alone.
Recite the mantras with clarity, correct pronunciation and by giving pause between words.
Dont be in hurry. Keep it a point that before the commencement of recitation think in your
mind the purpose for which you are performing the sadhana. Mantras inflicting injury or harm
to another and infatuation should be used only in a rare case. There is always danger of anti
effect to self on these two types of mantras. Use rosary[ mala ] for counting.
Some of the tested mantras if recited by complete faith inflicting loyalty backed by clear heart
towards the deity can bring tremendous success, prosperity and peace in natives life.
According to the puranas, shastras and maharishis, mantra is the only way to attain ones
desires, provided one recites with complete faith and prescribed methods and rules. The
recitation of the words of mantras should be pure and correct in order to create the right
vibrations.
Mantras are a complete set of words from the Vedas attributed to the deities or devtas.
Mantras have come down to us from our maharishis, saints, sadhus and yogis who after
recitation of mantras for several thousand years guided us to follow them.
Mantra sadhana is very difficult. If during practice some drawbacks remain, it can inflict
loses. Without faith and belief, such practices should be avoided. Guidance of a competent
guru is necessary to attain success.
Very important
Please do not have hired persons for a particular recitation of mantra or sadhana. Your own
karmas will pay you. Do mantra recitation by yourself as hired persons cannot put that much
devotion for you. Your own devotion and karmas will definitely pay you. So do it yourself
and feel the results.
Mantras is a complete Sadhana done without any specific aim bear fruits early. Brahmacharya
should be observed during sadhana. In case of failure, dont lose heart. Try it again and again
you will definitely have success.
Just as scientists dont always succeed in their endeavours, so to the mantras and yantras.
Continuous sadhana will enable the sadhaka to find solutions to the problems, attaining peace
of mind and reducing mental strain. The mantras must be recited as they are. Any addition or
alteration in the mantra must be avoided. If distorted or recited incorrectly, the power of the
mantra is lost.
The sadhaka should have a light meal, hot and well cooked and in a small quantity as
overeating leads to the excitement of the sensory organs which aggravate passions. Onion,
garlic and meat should be strictly avoided. Small quantities of wholesome food purifies the
mind and a pure mind retains the memory of god.

beyond the realm of words or expression. It can only be experienced. Speech falls short as it
cannot go beyond the expression level into the experiential level.
When the mind is calm and centered, it can turn inward. Only a mind turned inward can
experience the vastness and beauty of the Divine consciousness. When our focus is outward
on the objects of the senses, our mind is scattered and racing behind one craving or another.
Physical senses seek to know all about the external universe. Meditation is the tool for inner
exploration.
Antarmukhi Sada Sukhi one whose mind is turned inward is ever in bliss. Mantras are the
tools which allow the mind to dissolve and repose in the Self.
Why should we repose in the Self? How is this going to help in our day-today life?
When the river is calm, the reflection is clearer. When the mind is calm, there is greater
clarity in the field of expression. Our sense of observation, perception and expression
improve. As a result we are able to communicate effectively and clearly.
Most of our problems or misunderstandings arise because of a lack of proper communication.
When our mind is free from agitation, the way we interact and communicate is so much more
pleasant and effective. Our efforts are not hindered by rifts caused due to communication
gaps. This leads to a lot of positivity in our outlook and progress in life.
Mantras are as subtle as the air which creates ripples in the water as it gently moves over it.

also such. It is all pervading and also creates an impact on the one who is practicing.
