MONDAYEVANGELISTIC PRAYER
Chronological Bible Reading: Job 34-36; Acts 18
Monday, July 6
Job 23:3 Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!
Ever-Living Savior and Lord:
What a goal for this summer! Job, in his most extreme need, cried out to
you. Give the people we are about to minister to in August the same desperate
desire: of a lost child to find the Fathers face. Then their first prayer will not be,
Heal me of this addiction, or even, Restore my child from the grave. Their
first and foremost cry will be, Oh, that I knew where to find God! Since they
are passing through the storm give them the desire to run home to you.
Psa. 36:7 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men
put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.
What a goal for outreach! I know lost people who need to make you their
refuge. Right now their job is, or their bank account is, or their marriage is, or
their house is, or their own conceit and pride is their refuge. It is only a hypocrite
who, when afflicted by God, resents the affliction and then like a child, runs from
the mother who has whipped him. Not so for the true child of God. He seeks
shelter from the spanking by drawing closer to the mothers skirt. Give
__________ and __________ a spirit to do just that, and a thirst to find you!
I have found you; therefore, my desire for others is to know you (Phil 3:10).
Yet my prayer today is not for myself, but for the lost who still need to seek you
and find. Give them a desire to see you that is intensified by their failure to find
comfort in anyone or anything else. Help them turn away from all their miserable
friends, and lift their eyes to your throne for mercy. Farewell, earth-borne hopes.
O that I might find God! If they will not say it then let me say it for them, so
your Spirit can put the parallel desire inside them. Jesus, do it because of the price
you paid, that the travail of your soul will be honored more and more! Amen.

WEDNESDAYREVIVAL PRAYING
Chronological Bible Reading: Job 40-42; Acts 20

Ezek. 37:5 Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath
to enter into you, and ye shall live:
Merciful Physician:
I am just like this woman. I have been trying to feel good and do good, in
order to be good. But that very effort has only depressed me more by making me
see how far off I am! My self-denial has done nothing but arouse more cravings. I
am now brought to the same bleak brink as this womanI am without strength,
having spent all my living.
I bought disappointment at a high price and am nothing better for it. My
conscience has even lost its former sensitivity to sin. I now do things that would
have frightened me years ago. I am caught in the current and nearing the
waterfall. I am without merit, without power, and have to look outside myself for
deliveranceto someone else who has strength and merit and can save.
Isa. 55:1 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no
money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
At the bottom of this pit give me wisdom, because when I come to the end
of myself I find the beginning of Christ. As long as I have a credit card I can fake
it till I make it, but when I get totally bankrupt it sets me free to go to Jesus, who
heals my diseases without money and without price. Starve me out of my selfconfidence, because then I am ready to see Jesus!
Give me the courage that is born in desperation, not the audacity that
comes from pride. Let God the Holy Ghost help me right now, by this prayer, to
thrust out my finger and get in touch with Jesusjust the hem of his garment. By
Gods grace I will have him as my only hope for holiness in this life until you
come to redeem my body at the rapture. Thank you, Lord Jesus. Amen.
Sovereign Savior:
My greatest desire is to see revival and see men and women saved. But
when I tell people to repent and believe, I cannot rely on any power within me or
them to make that possible. Instead I have found if I tell others the gospel in
faith, God the Holy Ghost operates with me. So the same moment I tell the dry
bones to live, the Spirit puts an energy in them. At the same time I tell lame men
and women to walk, the Spirit mysteriously gives strength to their anklebones. I
find that divine power always goes with your commands! This is the seed for
revival, and I praise you for it, because then all the glory belongs to you.
The power does not lie in me to be revived. The power does not lie in the
preacher to revive me. The power lies in the Holy Ghost alone, who works
effectively with the word of God according to your promise. So wherever truth
is preached revival is possible, because the Holy Spirit then has a tool he can
use to glorify Christ. Alone, I am not holy enough to use, but your Holy Bible is!
I confess these things in prayer even as I claim them right now by faith.
Rom. 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God
unto salvation to every one that believeth;
Give me boldness to tell the gospel to others, and not fear the results.
However little my strength Lord, I know you have promised in your wordand
given me the promise of your Spiritto make the gospel the power of God unto
salvation. Let me give men and women more light so your Spirit can enable them
to repent of everything they did in the dark. Make them hate sin, or else God
must hate them. Do it for Jesus sake, because he is worthy! Amen.
Matt. 27:61 And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over
against the sepulchre.
spirit.
Psa. 51:12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free
Gracious Lord:
David starts with his sin, but ends with asking for pardon, and then
requests joy. Give me comfort also, at the right time and from the right place. No
voice can revive me but your own. Forgiveness from you gives me double joy:
Psa. 51:8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken
may rejoice.
I thank you Lord, for not giving me just a partial blessing. I not only have a
double-bloom of joy, but I get to hear it singing songs of praise. Sometimes my
joy is felt but not heard (silenced by the noise of fears), but the joy you give me
has a voice louder than the sound of anything else. Your voice speaking peace
shouts over the din and drone, and is the sweetest music my soul can catch.
I am making a great request: I am asking joy for a deceitful heart, and music
for crushed bonesan absurd prayer anyplace but at the throne of grace! And
absurd there most of all, except for the Lord Jesus bearing my hearts sins in his
own body on the tree, and then pleading today as High Priest for me.
Thank you Lord, that when I return (like the prodigal), I dont have to ask
to be one of your hired hands or live in perpetual mourning over my past sins. I
can ask for gladness and you will give it. If Jesus is rejoicing, then what need
is there for me to be depressed? But joy will not last if you do not keep me
from straying. On the other hand, joy is a great aid to staying on the hard but
right path, and bearing-up under the difficulties I am called to endure as an
enemy of the world and the Devil. Give me joy and strength to overcome so
Jesus will be exalted by my life! This I pray for his sake and glory. Amen.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Baptists tend to ridicule liturgical churches that use "prepared prayers" because
they lack spontaneity. But for many Baptists, their prayers are so predictable they are
no more spontaneous than written-out prayers. The result is we end up praying the
same things over and over.
This daily Prayer Diary will prompt you on a wide range of prayer requests you
might not normally think of, while forcing you to articulate a deeper devotion to
God. We have included a daily Bible reading schedule. This plan will take you
through the Bible chronologically in a year.
Do not read ahead and do not try to catch up. Use each day as it comes. Then
you can know that on any given day, dozens of other people are lifting their hearts in
the same mind to God. Pray what is written, but use what is prayed as a springboard
for your own relationship with God. You learn to pray by praying.
Alan
Secret prayer is the secret of prayer, the soul of prayer, the seal of prayer, the
strength of prayer. If you do not pray alone you do not pray at all. Our Lord Jesus
Christ would go nowhere till He had prayed. He would attempt nothing till He had
prayed.
Oh, says one, I live in the spirit of prayer, and therefore I do not need times
and seasons for prayer. And do you think that Christ did not live in the spirit of
prayer? Yet He had to have his special time and place to pray. Do not fall under the
injurious notion that because your spirit cries to God in prayer all day long, therefore
there must not be some season for more immediately coming into Gods presence. If
you imagine this, I am afraid that it will prove a snare to your feet. The Lord Jesus
Christ, who knew better than you do that the main thing is the spirit of prayer rather
than the act of prayer, yet Himself retired into desert places to maintain the act and
exercise of prayer. Be spiritual. Be baptized into the spirit of prayer. But do not be
deceived by the enemy, who can steal a spirit away while we dream that we only
spiritualize it. We had better preserve the very bones of prayerthe posture, the
time, placerather than let it all ooze away into an impalpable mental condition.
God keep us prayerful. He will do so if He makes us like His dear Son.
Charles H. Spurgeon, 1834-92
