Evidence and ID Specialist

The Position: This position performs specialized duties in the investigation of crime scenes and the identification of suspects
and victims.
NOTE: Position will work regular hours Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm but rotate on-call by weeks (subject to call out
nights and weekends including holidays).

To Compete in the Selection Process: To be considered for this position, applicants should have knowledge of the methods
and standards employed in forensic science; knowledge of the techniques used in print processing, bloodstain pattern analysis, and other crime scene investigation procedures; knowledge of computer forensic imaging software; knowledge of trace
evidence collection procedures; and knowledge of department and city policies and procedures. Applicants should be skilled
in crime scene investigation and evidence collection; skilled in the use of chemical, powders and light in the collection of latent fingerprints; skilled in the identification of print pattern matches; skilled in the preparation of reports; and skilled in oral
and written communication. Applicants should have knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
Applicants should have sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position,
usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Applicants must possess or have the ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for
the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
The Selection Process: The process begins with a complete evaluation of the applications submitted. All applicants must
complete a City of Wilson application. A resume may be attached, but is not a substitute. Incomplete or unsigned applications will not be processed. After screening all candidates, the most qualified will be invited to participate in a personal interview. The interview will cover the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the duties of the vacant position. The
applicant determined to best fit the needs of the position will be given careful reference and thorough criminal background
check, a drug test and any required medical examinations that may be necessary.
