Initial Organization
• Immediately following the City Council meeting on January 6, 2010, a group of
concerned golfers, parents, educators and sponsors came together to form the “Keep
the Mif” Coalition. Members of the Coalition are willing to volunteer time and money
to support non-profit operation of the golf course.
• At its meeting on January 21, 2010, the Alameda Golf Commission appointed Norma
Arnerich, Tony Corica, Jane Sullwold, Bob Sullwold, Joe VanWinkle and Connie
Wendling as a task force to lead the “Keep the Mif” Coalition.
• At its meeting on January 28, 2010, the Alameda Junior Golf Association Board of
Directors voted unanimously in favor of becoming the sponsoring non-profit
corporation for operation of the Mif course.
• With the advice of counsel, the Alameda Junior Golf Association will devise a legal
structure enabling it to operate the Mif without jeopardizing any of its existing
programs.

Fundraising & Community Support
• “Keep the Mif” Coalition set an initial fundraising goal of $40,000 to cover
start-up costs.
• On January 14, 2010, the plan was described to membership of the Alameda
Women’s Golf Club, who immediately pledged more than $2,000.
• Local software developer Chris Seiwald offered a challenge grant through the
Perforce Foundation. This grant will match community donations up to
$20,000.
• Thereafter, pledges poured in from the Alameda Men’s Club, the Commuter’s
Committee, and various interested members of the golfing community. In
less than a month, the Coalition received pledges totaling more than $13,000.
We require just $7,000 more to meet our initial goal.

Business Plan
• Mission Statement: Maintain, Operate and Enhance the Mif Albright Golf
Course for the Community of Alameda
• The Mif can be operated at break-even under active and committed
management:
Revenue in 2006 and 2007 for full year operations was $130,000 per year.
NCGA’s Youth on Course program providing $7 for each junior round played has not
been fully utilized. The simple step of providing a sign-up sheet would increase
revenue by about $10,000 per year.
The principal operating costs involve turf maintenance and water. We’ve obtained
quotes from three licensed and insured landscape/golf management companies.
Alternatively, the company selected to operate the Corica Golf Complex could be
hired to perform this work. We estimate annual turf maintenance costs (including
labor and supervision) to be $93,000 and annual water costs to be $35,000.
Operational costs no longer will include the $50,000 currently being billed or
allocated annually for city management and corporate overhead.
• Potential upside not built into plan:
Green fees from business league play
Active irrigation cost management (e.g. replace 30 year old leaking sprinkler heads)

Business Plan Fundraising
• Fundraising and sponsorship provide for contingency funds and capital
improvements, consistent with non-profit courses we’ve benchmarked.
